What do you do Boxing Day?

Boxing Day as a child was always spent with my Dad and that side of the family. No contact with Dad now and I have husband and kids of my own.

Past few years we have spent Boxing Day with DH's family, this year they've said we will see them 'over Christmas' at some point ( Christmas Day spent with my mom & step dad )

Which has left me thinking what shall me, DH and two children do Boxing Day? Don't fancy the sales, I'm thinking a big walk with the dog ( weather dependant ) and then do us a buffet tea late afternoon.

What do you all do?

Rejoice that Christmas Day is over for another year and go out for a long boozy lunch

louderthan · 19/12/2022 23:41

No kids or any family other than my mum

ivykaty44 · 20/12/2022 09:22

Im so glad that you've left early and are sipping cocktails at the bar!

Well done

now my next thoughts are.... praying your phone runs out of battery on xmas eve and you don't recharge it until boxing day

for goodness sake turn your phone off and leave it turned off

If you must text everyone xmas eve morning and say you've come down the road as signal really bad at hotel - wishing everyone a merry xmas and see you all soon - then turn off from digital tec

have a wonderful xmas

wrong thread - sorry

SantaStoleMyPies · 20/12/2022 09:24

Boxing Day walk here too. Normally 2-3 hours in the morning/lunchtime. Then back home for board games, Baileys and TV.

MickeyMouseShithouse · 20/12/2022 09:28

We used to go to my grandmas for ‘grandma curry’ and chips - but they’re older now and like the peace, we’ve grown up, had our own children and have our own families so I asked her for her ‘secret’ recipe! So now I am holder of the ‘grandma curry’ and will have my parents, my brother and his family and my sister round for grandma curry and chips to keep the tradition alive ☺️

It's a really cosy relaxed day here.

We just potter around the house, playing with presents, reading new books etc. I'll probably bake something simple like cinammon scrolls for brunch.

Afternoon we usually get out to the beach to blow the cobwebs away then it's always bubble and squeak for dinner and cold cuts.

Lucky91 · 20/12/2022 09:53

We stay at home and have party food nibbles and play with the kids toys.

inappropriateraspberry · 20/12/2022 10:04

We normally go to whichever parents we haven't had for Xmas day.
But you don't have to 'do' anything. Watch tv, let the kids play with their presents and eat Xmas food!
Play some games, and enjoy not having to travel anywhere.

My favourite day! I just put out a massive buffet for lunchtime, which we'll all eat over the course of the day and evening. The kids can have unlimited screen time and play with their new stuff, and I'll get on the sofa with dh and the dog and get stuck into a new book, have a snooze and eat all the tasty shit. Can't wait!

Flowerandmpower · 20/12/2022 12:58

How do you get stuck into a book with kids playing , tv on etc .. serious quetion.. wish i knew how !

TheOinkySplit · 20/12/2022 13:56

@Flowerandmpower Eldest will probably be talking to friends on the Xbox in his room, younger two will hopefully get along! (5 and 8). You've got me worried now 😂 actually they might be overwhelmed and tired from the day before which could mean iPad time, or more likely...squabbling time 🤔😥 a boxing day bath and book if that's the case 😂 sorry dh...

FallHappy1 · 21/12/2022 06:42

Usually stay at home in our pyjamas the entire day, pottering about, tidying up, watching christmas movies and christmastv specials, 2nd christmas dinner with the leftovers at lunch time, eat chocolate, play board games and then go to my sisters for a boxing day buffet in the evening.

LionsandLambs · 21/12/2022 07:02

Boxing Day is my favourite. All the manic stuff is done. We go for a walk, the pub, watch films, eat party food. This year we’re seeing family so will be different.

I am doing the local running race mid morning, ong with OH and both our teenage sons. Fair few friends also doing it, and I'm hoping for a good crowd of supporters on their boxing day walk (race is a seafront location).
Them back for lots of food and chill out before heading to in laws on 27th.

frenchfancy81 · 24/12/2022 00:37

Have a full-on Christmas Day take 2 at the in-law's house!

Macinae · 24/12/2022 11:05

Will still be staying at my parents house from Christmas eve (just got divorced and no kids) so taking the dog for a long walk will be the only time we leave the house, and no visitors Boxing day as we like it to be a day just for immediate family. Boxing day bath with new smellies, get into new Pj's, have round 2 of Christmas Dinner, and watch films with a box of chocolates.
