One week to go, so some people will be 99% sorted and others will be getting started. What’s still on your Christmas prep to-do list?

Mine:

1 still waiting for one present to be delivered, I’m starting to think it might not arrive in time and I’ll need to venture to the shops to find a replacement.

2 get the final bits of chocolate for the stockings.

3 about 4 presents left to wrap.

4 the house is a tip again despite my early December deep clean, so I’ll need to spend some of this weekend making it presentable.

5 hosting drinks next week - need to buy drinks and food for that.

6 need to make a few things ahead of Christmas Day - red cabbage and stuffing might be all that gets done. And I’d like to bake some mince pies and cookies if I get time.

7 make a restaurant reservation for NYE

8 the big Christmas food shop. I haven’t pre-ordered anything this year except the turkey so am hoping I can get everything I need in person…

Please share your lists, I always find these threads helpful as I’ve probably forgotten about 10 things I still need to do!

And what are all the men doing ???

Probably nowhere near as much! Mine got the tree and brought it in, and will decorate it with the children when he gets home from work today, and he cleaned the basement. And he bought his share of the presents.

And what are all the men doing ???

Mine is doing the childcare this week, is currently tidying the house, has bought the kids' main presents (second hand lego, had to build them to check for missing pieces too) and is cooking the main meal on Christmas day.

I've done the stockings, other present shopping for both families (not too bad for his as I had requests) and ordered the beef rib. The mental load is much more for me but he's golden on the practical stuff.

I think I'm pretty much done, need to drop a present tomorrow to the man (angel in disguise) that helps with my horses.

Ewisa · 23/12/2022 12:10

I have almost everything ready, only I have to wrap the gifts and that's it.

jingscrivvens · 23/12/2022 12:31

More than I'd like!
Today to do -
Got work today, then go pick up capon and meat from farm.
Get neighbours cards delivered
Make a Yule Log
Wrap the last of the presents
Get at least 2 loads of washing done
Tomorrow -
Get all the washing I did the night before dry!
To the shops at the crack of dawn to get bread and anything else I've missed
Clean house
Prep veg, stuffing and tea stuff
Set the table
Might get a glass of wine...

Think that'll do. I do love Christmas, but roll on Boxing Day!

And what are all the men doing ???

Looking after kids, cleaning kitchen, picking up food, hoovering and then probably make me a cup of tea 😂

Outtasteamandluck · 23/12/2022 11:39

And what are all the men doing ???

Mines currently 70 miles away having Xmas drinks with his friends from his hometown. I on the other hand am at home sorting last minute Xmas bits and keeping dd7 entertained

Natsku · 23/12/2022 15:46

Phew almost all done now, star bread is prepped for baking in the morning and the Christmas bread is in the oven now, all the cleaning and ironing done and last minute wrapping. Now all that's left is to eat pizza, go sauna, and watch a film, then put the presents out once the children are in bed.

Oh and put together the playmobil pirate ship for DS, almost forgot about that.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 23/12/2022 16:42

The Finnish traditions sound lovely!

My DH does loads as he’s the main cook, so does the majority of the food shopping for bigger events or meals. Plus he buys loads of treats when he goes shopping while I stick to the basics more.
plus some practical stuff - within reason, no power tools allowed haha.

To Do:

try and tidy up downstairs a bit, especially clearing the kitchen for cooking - working on this…done more… hoovered and mopped main room, hoovered my bedroom, the rest can manage without, just bathrooms would be good to do

get smarties Bought ✅ and then finish choc Rice Krispie cake I’ve half made, realised I need more chocolate to melt

get DD to make gingerbread house at some point
Plus we were going to make star cookies but haven’t yet so prob won’t get round to it

Christmas Eve Parkrun tomorrow - find Santa hats or festive outfits

whatever else I’ve forgotten…

Christmas Eve:
stuff socks
FC food? If DC still want to play along
reindeer food? Ditto
look at NORAD? ditto

FC presents under the tree after DC go to bed - this involves staying awake lol

Mrsfussypants1 · 23/12/2022 17:49

Shave legs and wash hair! It's been a hectic week!
Buy eggs, French stick and see if there are any j20s left. Dh is going up in the morning, I really don't want to go up to the shops christmas Eve, I do every year and this year I want a more chilled potter around at home christmas eve.
Still have presents for adult dd, sil and dgd to wrap and put dcats presents in a sack.
Vacuum, wash floors, dust, clean bathroom and a small pile of ironing.

Mrsfussypants1 · 23/12/2022 17:54

Oh, dh does the bathroom. He's also got a scooter to assemble and an office chair. He's I'm charge of tea tomorrow night, it's just the two of us so nothing elaborate.

Yoyo2021 · 23/12/2022 18:02

Just got in from work and taken the Turkey out the freezer.

I also need to clean the house tomorrow.

I’ve not wrapped one present either ha ha!

I also need to go to town tomorrow & buy the veg lol

in fact I have a whole list and if I don’t get it don’t I done mind 😂 I refuse to get stressed!

Season0fTheWitch · 23/12/2022 18:33

Dh is doing veg prep tomorrow and I'll take the kids out for a long walk. Then when we're back I need to wrap some new presents that arrived this week, sort stockings etc and then we'll spend the afternoon doing christmas activities, films etc with DDs. Today I've cleaned the house from top to bottom and this evening when the DDs are in bed I'll do their christmas eve boxes (they'll get them in the morning tomorrow). Gingerbread cookies, gingerbread house and mince pies are made. I feel weirdly on schedule-I'm worried.

Rovinonmars · 23/12/2022 18:40

Cook the ham, make cauliflower cheese for Sunday in advance and tidy the house ready for guests. All presents wrapped, all food bought (apart from tomorrow's dinner) and ready to go!

Natsku · 23/12/2022 20:42

I am almost all done now, hooray! The last child is just going to bed now so soon I can get the presents up and fill the stockings. By the way tip for those who have to sneak into their childrens' rooms to place stockings - oil their hinges/door handles! I did that today and their doors are much quieter to open now. I'm going to have to wait until morning to do DD's stocking though as I doubt she'll fall asleep quickly enough for me to do it tonight (its already nearly 11 here) but she'll be fast asleep when I get up in the morning.

Christmas Day is my day off, OH takes care of everything that day including getting up early with DS to build lego and play endless games of memory.

Essexexile · 23/12/2022 20:44

Veg prep tomorrow
run the hoover round (again)
mop the hall floor (again)

That’s it, very happy 😃

MoominPants · 23/12/2022 20:52

Last few presents to wrap

Pick up a couple of bits that were missing from our click and collect

House needs a quick tidy and floors need doing before visitors arrive.

I hope that is it….keep thinking I’ve forgotten something!

Always4Brenner · 23/12/2022 20:54

Forgot my frothy coffee sachets and Yorkshire puds if not raining tomorrow then might go and get them otherwise forget it. Did get my crunchy nice Christmas Chocolate mints though bendix ones.

dementedma · 23/12/2022 21:02

Just spuds to peel, parboil and chill. All other veg prepped and frozen so just needs defrosted.
No idea what we are eating tomorrow ( Christmas Eve) but past caring tbh. Got cheese, bread, paté etc so that will have to do.
Champagne to put in fridge and we are good to go

Tisfortired · 23/12/2022 21:03

Been working all week so tomorrow will be a busy one!

🎅🏻 wrap all presents
🎅🏻 not hosting this year so the Christmas clean doesn’t need to be so in depth but do a general clean and hoover the stairs and landing in particular
🎅🏻 make sure DS tidies his room
🎅🏻 make mince pies and maybe gingerbread men
🎅🏻 locate DS stocking (I manage to lose it every year.)
🎅🏻 choose, iron and lay out everybody’s ‘Christmas day’ outfits
🎅🏻 relax and eat Boursin on crackers with chutney
🎅🏻 take the dog on a super long walk and then give him a good bath

I am hoping to get all of the above done by about 3pm, so after that all there is to is order a Chinese, watch the royal family christmas special and enjoy a schloer or two 🤰

AdoraBell · 23/12/2022 21:19

I’ll start the food prep tomorrow. DDs home from Uni and straight out to meet a friend. I need to get stockings from the cupboard and put labels/ribbons on the wrapped presents 🎁

🍷🍷<mulled, for everyone.

MrsMontyD · 23/12/2022 21:39

Need to change my bed in the morning (DP is coming to stay) and I'll probably do a couple of loads of washing. Need to have a last tidy around (litter tray, bin ...) but I think I'm about done, I cleaned the bathroom, cleaned the fridge, vacuumed right through etc. today. The main food shop is coming in the morning.

We're out for lunch tomorrow and Christmas Day so no major good prep to do. Shopping, wrapping etc. all done. I'm going to cook a ham and a chicken tomorrow afternoon for sandwiches/buffet.

I'm going to bake Christmas Morning Muffins on Christmas morning, so I'll weigh the dry ingredients etc. before bed tomorrow night.

I've had a rough few months, so looking forward to a relaxed Christmas. I've deliberately booked meals out and kept it low key to take the pressure off.

Natsku · 23/12/2022 22:01

Everything is done now except for sneaking the stockings in. I couldn't figure out how to get the last sail on the playmobil pirate ship but its not like DS is going to notice that its missing so I just put it away. Its good enough as it is.

@AdoraBell had some mulled wine already Grin while watching Krampus for our Christmas film (think it made DD afraid to not believe because she suddenly started talking about the elves coming to fill the stockings!)

AdoraBell · 23/12/2022 23:10

🤣🤣😍 at your DC Natsku
