Anyone else having trouble trying to get into a WHSmiths roll of wrapping paper?
I get that they are doing away with the plastic cellophane which is good but did anyone at design HQ actually test that the 'tear here' strip actually does tear😡. I have teeny weeny bits of black sticky paper all over the floor and I'm still not there yet. Maybe I have bought three dodgy rolls?

None of mine peeled like that at all. The glue is stuck the entire way around the wrap, the back of the label isn't shiny and it is literally glued on.

I think there are perhaps a lot of "bad" batches where something has gone wrong in the process of manufacturing these labels.

I wasted loads of paper opening the bloody roll, won’t buy it again

Same problem here with Next wrapping paper and it was SO thin it was impossible to wrap with, nearly lost my patience with it yesterday so went to buy gift bags for anything awkward shaped today 😬

the80sweregreat · 16/12/2022 18:23

At least with gift bags they can be recycled and the tags taken off etc.

the80sweregreat · 16/12/2022 18:23

Recycled , as in reused !

PrinceHaz · 16/12/2022 18:44

Same with John Lewis paper.

Going against opinion here, but I've found it easy to peel the labels off. Yes you lose the first bit of wrap but can be used to wrap small stocking gifts.

Oh I seeee

But you just remove the labels carefully? Genuinely I hate things that leave a mark but just gently under the tab and slowly pulling it off, jobs a goodun!

Not with Sainsbury's wrapping paper. I've got really nimble fingers but it will not bloody peel off without ripping the paper. It peels off most of the way just fine, then the last cm or so appears to have been stuck on with super glue. It's giving me the absolute rage.

Ooo no, I can't bear a gift bag. Smacks of 'I bought it on the way here from the petrol station and didn't have scissors or sellotape with me'. Robbed of the joy of unwrapping too.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 16/12/2022 19:53

Just for a bit of balance, my Tesco roll unpeeled beautifully 🤷

the80sweregreat · 16/12/2022 22:07

Don't care , gift bags are great!

jocktamsonsbairn · 17/12/2022 00:29

I bought 3 rolls for an activity with my p3 (age7) class. Fuck my life. Peel
Off meant whole scale massacre of wrapping paper. Avoid.

My labels definitely did not peel like that. I tried going to carefully and they just shredded into slithers of paper and the top of the label delaminated from the bottom, leaving it still stuck.
