My husband has binned the Christmas decorations

…yes really.

We’ve still got the tree thank goodness, but was putting it up with the children, when I asked him to go and fetch the rest of the decorations. He then disappeared to the garage and the loft for a very long time, before coming back and very sheepishly saying he has a vague memory of accidentally taking them to the tip.

Since I’m now starting totally afresh, would anyone like to share where they have bought nice ones from?! Especially since DH will be paying!!

Could be worse though, heard on radio years back a family binned the decorations and put the actual bin binbags in the roofspace Halloween Envy <~ not envy

Radio dj was gleefully asking how many maggots there were Shock

So sorry to hear this OP. I think this would upset most of us. What about eBay for some vintage decorations?

I crochet ones like the baubles above for fundraising . I’d love to send you a set of three if you send me your address? If you have a colour scheme in mind let me know .

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 29/11/2022 20:46

Oh sorry for this mishap.....thankfully my dp never goes near my christmas stuff so I think I'm safe, but I would be gutted as I usually buy something new each year and have a few bespoke ones.

I second the different bag for the Christmas stuff, I've just bought a new tree bag as the box is getting tatty (bright red from b&q) I also have a clear storage box so you can see what's inside.

As bad as it seems I'm a little envious about the excitement of going and buying all new decorations...enjoy and don't let dp forget it every year!

Bigboysmademedoit · 29/11/2022 20:55

TKMaxx and John Lewis. Maybe Next? I ordered Cherished Teddy tree ornaments with the year on them from EBay.

User1274838 · 29/11/2022 20:56

OMG. I am so sorry to hear this I would be absolutely devastated if my DH ever did this, I love all my Christmas decors but my favs just have to be form the white stuff (just so classy) and liberty's in London just the best for Christmas decorations (especially if DH is paying) lol.

Do you have a shop called The Range nearby? They are usually on retail parks, I think. I'd never been in one until this week. I was picking something up from the shop next door nipped in and bloody hell. It was huge. Absolutely massive and the second floor was entirely xmas stuff. Rows and rows and rows of Christmas lights strung up and baubles everywhere. It was like they'd stuck every christmas section of every other shop together in one building.

Isithotinhere · 29/11/2022 20:57

Get the kids to make lots of new ones - they're the decorations I'd miss most.

Sounds like my kind of place!

Go to Homesense and take his credit card! Enjoy!
I have to be honest though I'd be so peed off! My DH does stupid stuff like this.

MrsKrankyPants · 29/11/2022 21:05

The Range have some lovely ones and a lot of glass ones.

Newwardrobe · 29/11/2022 21:10

Your husband has a couple of balls , I'd start with them !

AuntieDolly · 29/11/2022 21:12

I think I'd get some cheapie ones for this year then restock in the new year when they are half price in the garden centres

Pleiades2020 · 29/11/2022 21:14

I got some nice gold baubles from Next last year. Was surprised they were fairly inexpensive.

These are lovely!
I buy the DC a Georg Jensen bauble each every Christmas - similar style and cheaper.

Backtothegymgirl · 29/11/2022 21:18

Op I bought these,

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B5TFC35W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

two packs and supplemented with some I already have. But they are great . Dirt cheap for the quantity. here is my tree.

batchainpuller · 29/11/2022 21:20

Do you have some pictures of your tree from years gone by, so you can try and source the same/similar?

Divebar2021 · 29/11/2022 21:20

Dont try and re-buy them this year. I’d buy a couple of boxes of simple baubles and then let everyone choose a special one. I’ve bought nice ones from TK Maxx but the special ones we always go to Libertys. We’ve been doing this for 4 or 5 years now and have a great little collection.

Rubytoos · 29/11/2022 21:23

it a good opportunity for a refresh. I did this a few years ago, binned all my old decks, I was so bored of them, and replaced for £35 from B&M.
colour trends in this year are midnight and navy, with a splash of gold. Or a natural look, with jute, hessian, twine, foliage, small painted decs.
have fun, I feel like a refresh myself now
😎

Now I’m browsing baubles, have they always been so… weird? Do people really hang sardines in a tin baubles, or avocado baubles, or any of these weird and wonderful creations on their tree?!

There was a post a few weeks ago with photos of baubles with bottoms and genitals on. I so nearly bought them....

Mother87 · 29/11/2022 21:28

B&M Bargains have some lovely onesGrinGrinwell I thought so.

boboshmobo · 29/11/2022 21:37

Tk Maxx or the range are great value and lovely decs

Garden centre or John Lewis for more expensive

reallyworriedjobhunter · 29/11/2022 21:46

A friend of mine did this by mistake too. Threw away the old faux tree forgetting that all the decorations were in the box too. All the things the kids had made, the ones they had bought when first married etc. she was really upset but started a new collection.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/11/2022 21:54

We went travelling for 7 weeks on nye 2011. Then moved to London so anything not going in storage went. I gave our decs to a friend who didn't have much money save for a few tree decs. Although this was a nice thing to do Christmas 2012 I was like oh no! Nice excuse to get new ones!
