DD (10) handed me a piece of paper this morning just before she left for school and asked me to put it in the recycling. It was her Christmas list 😮
I don't know whether she finally doesn't believe (she twigged the tooth fairy a couple of months ago) or whether she's heard too much about keeping energy costs down or even if she's making a secret list!
Would you say anything to her? The one thing she desperately wants she will not be getting (a pet).

@ChristmasTidyings are you in the UK with those temperatures?

We have had a variety of pets for our kids over the years (snail, Guinea pigs, dog) all well looked after (mainly by us but a bit by them) The extra work was far outweighed by the pleasure I got from their enjoyment. Anyway just my opinion. Yes we had a garden so that obviously makes a big difference. I’m interested in if you’re UK as it’s ownership us a huge thing here much more do that some other countries I think. Anyway it was very important for me that my children had that experience.

My flat in the south east hit 30+ degrees on multiple occasions this summer. And we don't have direct sunlight until mid afternoon. If OP has direct sunlight all day then it would be easy to hit that regularly in the summer

yep and no shade as we're top floor 😫

I told her today she had to think about writing her letter to Santa to put under the tree. She's apparently going to ask for something she knows DH will not be happy with...

Should have guessed you were well north. Nobody who was in the south of England this summer could have any doubt it could reach 30 degrees inside a flat

I'm up north near-ish scotland in the penines and we definately hit over 30 in summer.

radrado · 29/11/2022 16:20

Laughing that the Pennines is near Scotland! Yes we did have quite a few warm days up here but not consistently so that the house was unbearable.

kateandme · 29/11/2022 20:55

It's NOT the same but a plush cuddly might be a midway comfort.at that age I got a jelly cat one and it actually surprisingly really helped.
You couldn t sign up to borrow my doggy or something similar could you up.then you get to control how long you babysit the pets for.could be a walk in the parks.

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 29/11/2022 20:59

Or shes given u that list knowing you'd peek. But has sent a different one so she can suss if hes real or not as to what she receives on the day!

Thats the sort of thing I'd do haha

What are you on about? the North Pennines are a 25 minute drive to the west border of Scotland.

If you can get somewhere in 30 minutes its pretty close.

You can get from Hallbankgate (the nearest pennine point) to Gretna Green 10 minutes faster than you can get from Healeyfield (the nearest pennine point) to Newcastle.

@mam0918 non need to be rude. You learn something new every day! I’m Edinburgh and the Pennines are very far from here but yes if you take the southernmost to northernmost tip I suppose you’re right.

You where the one being rude and 'laughing' at my comment as if it was wildly wrong which it wasn't... I was just explaining it.
