@wonderingwhatsnext my friend and her daughter emigrated to New Zealand when she was 4 and it was at this time of year too. I bought her a book (for kids) about Christmas in New Zealand. Her mum said she loved it then and in the years after. Maybe something like that and a wee necklace if you wanted something for her to have when she was older?

@SueGray I don't know the code etc but if you go on Mumsnet via a browser and view whole thread then you can search the page that way and it's much quicker and more reliable

We had a friend who looked after my son when he was little - when she left she bought him a teddy but also a lovely version of the Dr Seuss ‘oh the places you’ll go’ with a hand written message to him.

Now he’s older he really loves it and the message inside ( it made me quite tearful at the time!)
