Avoiding the twitch!

Just one more planned purchase. Otherwise I am done with presents. In previous years though I have struggled with the dreaded twitch. Share your twitches here.

I find the later I start the less likelihood of getting the twitch, so I have not bought a thing. You have got a good month now of it. Grin

Inasec24 · 16/11/2022 18:51

Twitched last night. I saved £50 on other gifts so had it left in the budget.

DS now has a scooter and DD now has an easel.

Must stop!!!!

NickMyLipple · 16/11/2022 18:58

I twitched last night and got 4 tickets to Frozen the Musical for £199 on their special "Me+3" deal. We have Sunday matinee seats next May in row G of the stalls which are normally over double what I paid.

I think DD will cry with happiness!

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 16/11/2022 19:01

Oh gawd 😬
The dreaded twitch!
Ironically, what I buy last minute and pretty cheap is usually the favourite gift! 🤷‍♀️
I ordered my last gift (for my nephew) today

year3k · 16/11/2022 19:03

I have just a couple more gifts to go. Luckily DS1 birthday is early January so any twitch purchases go to there. DS2 on the other hand....

Same actually - my twitch gifts last year were the favourites!

I just have to remember DD has her own money now so if there’s anything she really wants that neither or nor her Dad bought she can get it for herself. It was so much harder when she was younger and we had a tiny house. ExDH would stop by saying “that’s enough unless you plan on us sleeping in the garden.” 🤣

DH is hard to buy for so the twitch is less likely but his birthday is in March so should I see anything else it has to wait.

It must be so much harder when you have more than one child to avoid the twitch. And if you are buying for other kids as well. 😳

I've bought 3 pairs of pyjamas for DD Dec 1st Bag and I really like a satin pair in M&S but I'll need to check she likes them first .
I've bought some nice beauty/toiletry bits too , that's a mega Twitch area Xmas Grin

DS isn't a Twitch Issue , he doesn't like "things" , he'll get his Dec 1st Bag , money and some shower gel.
I've bought him a new laptop for University so he's not hard done by !

Lovemusic33 · 16/11/2022 21:02

I am usually terrible at twitching but this year I am struggling to buy anything, especially for my dc. When they were younger it was really easy to over buy, now they are older I’m struggling to find things. They have 2 gifts each so far 😬

I have cut out things like Christmas Eve boxes (too old for them and I don’t really like doing them) and stockings are probably going to be mainly useful things and food. I’m thinking much more before buying anything, especially wether the items will end up not being used and end up in landfill.

so no twitching this year .

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 16/11/2022 21:08

I’ve got £40 worth of ‘Twitch’ for my son in my Amazon basket. Which will then lead to me wanting to level up my other son. So far I’ve resisted the buy now button…

NewHopeNow · 16/11/2022 21:27

I've twitched and ordered a Nintendo switch, 6 games and a gaming chair.

BadgerLovesMash · 16/11/2022 21:36

I need to avoid this too! I keep seeing things then have to even it up between my girls 🙈

pinkksugarmouse · 17/11/2022 11:26

Just ordered DH some wireless headphones. His old ones broke a while ago and he never replaced them. He mentioned them last night as a possible birthday present but that’s in March.
So…we don’t get super expensive ones though they would be wasted on us.

I've been good when it comes to not getting the twitch for other half and the kids.

For myself however lol no restraint! Very much in the f it its Xmas mode x

pasinphoebe · 17/11/2022 19:27

@NewHopeNow was your twitch due to a particularly good switch bargain please?! we are after one …

Well not only did I buy DH some headphones but I told him and said he can have them as soon as they arrive.🤦🏻‍♀️🙄
Its partly because I want to be sure that they work properly.
And I have mine and they weren’t a gift. So yeah. £19.99 but they were reduced. Can’t remember what from though. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

JLab at Argos reduced from £29.99

OP posts:
NewHopeNow · 17/11/2022 21:32

@pasinphoebe Unfortunately not. Standard price from Argos, got the new OLED one. It was because my 6 year old dd's presents look so much more than my 12 year olds. His are obviously more expensive but it doesn't look as much so we thought we'd get him a surprise.

pinkksugarmouse · 22/11/2022 19:02

🤣 Well I did it. It was inevitable. I bought a box of dominoes for DH & Jenga for DD. £25 for the 2. From Argos.

They are both really for the 3 of us. DH doesn’t like complicated board games and I like us playing games when DD stays over.

I tend to twitch on ridiculous things in the last couple of days before Christmas, like tableware, nice wine glasses or expensive tea towels that I don’t need 😬 I have no idea why I do this 😁

Could it be partly due to the Christmas adverts with the perfect tableware set out?
Adverts are meant to sent subliminal messages so we aren’t always fully aware of where our buying choices come from.

I am trying so hard to avoid the twitch. My boys are done (5&2) they already have so much. Yet, here I am with a basket of over £100 worth of twitches from the Disney store. There is a star wars onesie my 5yo will love, £21 down from £30

I keep chanting to myself 'you already got him a sonic onesie, you already got him a sonic onesie...'

Help!

pinkksugarmouse · 29/11/2022 19:52

Its DD’s 20th birthday today. She is spending the day celebrating with her Dad. Then she will be celebrating again with me and her stepdad at the weekend.

It’s unlikely that I will twitch for her birthday now.

We are going for a meal on Saturday then putting our tree up on Sunday and she is helping to choose her stepdad’s watch for Christmas because she wants to see them in person. That be the last gift on my list to buy.

I’m twitch free at the moment. How is everyone else doing?
