Potion Making Kit

My Dd (age 10) would like a potions making kit for Christmas and would like the potions to be drinkable.

I was planning on gathering together some bits to make one myself but I'm running short of time and inspiration.

I already have some bottles with stoppers that the finished potions can go into and I was thinking that I'd buy different flavoured Rubicon drinks but I'm out of ideas after that.

Does anyone have any inspiration for interesting drinkable ingredients? Thanks!!

I normally love making things like this but this year my head's totally distracted and I'm drawing a blank.🙈

No idea but I'm watching so I can steal any ideas that do come Wink

Oooh I like this and my child would also love this!
What about different coloured diluting juice?
And maybe some milkshake making stuff - either the gloomy syrups or the powder?
Cremola foam powder to mix in and create froth?
Some coffee granules with a faded label saying 'bitter' or something??
Have you watched Just Add Magic on prime? They cook spells then add magical ingredients - looks like salt granules to me??
But they use measuring spoons - which you could easily add to your box?

Sunseed · 08/11/2022 07:41

Different coloured fruit cordials? A small pot of edible glitter? Then the mixed cordials get topped up with fizzy water - would that work?

OutDamnedSpot · 08/11/2022 07:42

Buy some growing herbs a few days before Christmas? Nice tub to grow her own potion ingredients?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 08/11/2022 07:44

You've got to include the fizzy cola and mentos thing as a surprise

Hopesakiller · 08/11/2022 07:45

The shimmer they sell to add to prosecco surely a must have.
Maybe glow bands to put in potions (whole, Def not leaking obvs)

ForgottenNurseryRhymes · 08/11/2022 07:47

Could you do alcohol free versions of tequila sunrise etc? Drinks with different densities of liquid in to create layered effect? Or add layers of jelly at the bottom, or lay flat so sets on the side then add other liquid?

Iguanainanigloo · 08/11/2022 08:03

I've just been looking at these online, alot have coloured popping candy and sherbert, which would be a nice addition!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 08/11/2022 08:08

You can buy special cups and dry ice capsules for smoky effects but that would have to be heavily supervised as it can be dangerous

nomoreflyingducks · 08/11/2022 08:12

Put in an effervescent vitamin pill (or half one is she's too young for a whole one!)

PuttingDownRoots · 08/11/2022 09:16

A mocktail book?

mogtheexcellent · 08/11/2022 10:12

you can buy potions if you are feeling lazy... potions cauldron, york

if you go there they serve them with popping candy on top.

PushingAnElephantUpTheStairs · 08/11/2022 10:38

Oooh thanks, some great ideas there.

Originally she wanted a set of the pre-made drinkable harry potter esque potions you can buy but then decided they were probably just made of rubicon so thought it might be more fun to make her own.

I was thinking of a mocktail recipe book but I could hand write some in a magical notebook and she can add her own concoctions.

I love the idea of an alcohol free sunrise!

Boba, edible glitter and popping candy sound fab too.

At the moment I'm imagining it will have:

A set of 4 bottles for storing potions.
A rainbow metal straw to drink with.
A funnel
Some sort of cauldron/mixing bowl
Different flavours of fizzy and still juice which I'll re-label.
A notebook with some recipes written in already.
A quillish pen
Boba
Edible glitter
Popping candy

Thanks again.🍸

I thought you meant this! You can buy refills for it, and / or hide other things underneath the flipping platform. You follow a set of instructions, the 'potion' fizzes and then exudes lots of dry ice etc, then the bottom of the cauldron flips over and hey presto there's a toy.

But if you got a second hand one from eBay or Facebook or wherever you could hide her potion kit in it? Let her do the potion making and then Woop there you go there's a special Harry Potter esq potion kit hiding in the bottom surrounded by smoke (dry ice)

If you are on FB there is a page called The Potions Lab but I'm not entirely sure if they are drinkable!

WhiskersPete · 08/11/2022 11:05

I would get some of the little coloured tapioca pearls for bubble tea to throw in too. Just for fun.

Icannever · 08/11/2022 11:18

If you google sugar syrup recipes you’ll find lots of ideas for making flavoured syrups to add to mocktails.

we had a mocktail making day recently and I bought fruit like limes, passion fruit, watermelon, pomegranate and raspberries to add to them, plain fizzy water or soda water is good to have to add the juices too. a soda stream could be fun too 😊

WandaWomblesaurus · 08/11/2022 12:36

You couldn't print out some recipes too - there are butterbeer ones.
What a fun and lovely gift!

ODFOx · 08/11/2022 13:14

I think that your list is great, but if I hadn't read it I'd suggest a soda stream, a selection of concentrates, a cauldron, some screw top vials (those Kilmer jar sequels mugs) and some measuring spoons. Glitter and boba. Then make her up a potions book.

PuttingDownRoots · 12/11/2022 19:16

Ask of any friends/relatives drink chambord. My DD loves the empty bottles for potions.

Treesuphooray · 12/11/2022 19:29

I’m making DD a non drinkable potion kit. But I have a few ideas.

I made hallowe’en mock tails using grenadine and food colouring. Maybe rename the bottles? (you can get blank potion labels from Etsy.)

the coke and mento experiment would result in drink able coke.

I got an alchemist spoon on necklace £4 and wand £6 from Etsy for DD’s kit.

ooh! I’ve also bought a set of lush puppie syrups for DD from Tesco for Christmas, they outfit be great as coloured stories to add to drinks/ice. Payne an ice tray with interred shapes or things to add to the ice cubes?

Treesuphooray · 12/11/2022 19:30

That would be ‘slush puppy’!

ShaunaTheSheep · 12/11/2022 19:32

cocktail syrups

Shimmer stuff for adding to drinks

Treesuphooray · 12/11/2022 19:32

Sorry! I’ve just read the rest of my typos! Feeding wiggly baby !
