Cinnamon buns

I want cinnamon buns for Christmas morning breakfast. Any recommendations for supermarket buns or buns by post? Alternatively anyone got a tried and tested recipe that can be made and frozen in advance and reheated? Many thanks

The Jus Rol ones in a tube (you can find them in the same section as the fresh pizza dough) are pretty good.

Labracadabra · 02/11/2022 15:58

Yep, we have tried many, many kinds as my DC love them, and JusRol are by far the best! They come out light and crispy and delicious (and you also get to eat them warm). They are our go-to birthday breakfast!

Well, the best ones on the planet are by Brod & Salt in Sweden so any recipe replicating those would be good. Ole & Steen a Danish chain, do them in the UK by post. Neither are cheap (over £3 each) . You could try to make your own using ready made butter puff pastry (I make bread ones but I think the flaky pastry ones actually taste better).

The stuff in those images on the link look burnt! 😂

Sainsbury do 4 frozen 'bake at home' one's in a packet. They're nice like instore baked ones.
The jus rol ones are nice too.
Also baked-in do a great iced cinnamon bun kit, a box with mix, icing etc to do your own.

Tesco tear and share in the bakery is lovely.

gogohmm · 02/11/2022 16:25

I had frozen ones from Waitrose

They are dark but delicious.

They aren't that difficult to make. I prefer to make mine on 23rd to have for breakfast on Christmas Eve and then again on Xmas Day.

I use this recipe but instead of this filling I mix butter brown sugar and cinnamon and then break up pecans and put those in.

CoolShoeshine · 02/11/2022 16:54

We have jus rol ones on Christmas Day morning, they are easy and delicious. Be warned though, too much will fill you up and you won’t want lunch!

CoolShoeshine · 02/11/2022 16:55

Also they have quite a long date on them so you can buy a few weeks in advance

perenniallymessy · 02/11/2022 17:01

The ones you can buy in the freezer section at IKEA are really nice. But I usually make them in advance and then freeze.

Croque · 02/11/2022 17:07

My breadmaker does a decent job but once you have had the Scandi ones you would never look back.

Era · 02/11/2022 17:10

Get the tesco ones from the bakery but ask behind the counter and they will give you the frozen ones from the freezer. that haven't yet been baked. Get two packs (8 buns)

Defrost them on Christmas eve morning. Take them out of the tesco packaging and put them into an ovenproof dish in the fridge squished in together. Then on christmas morning bung them in the oven for 15 minutes and pretend you cooked perfect american doughy cinnamon buns from scratch.

Another vote for the IKEA ones.

BertieBotts · 02/11/2022 17:17

Ikea are amazing.

mathanxiety · 02/11/2022 17:23

I have a bread machine and use a recipe for sweet roll dough from the bread machine recipe book that came with it.

I add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the dough.

I used to use a recipe for overnight rolls which was great, but involved a lot of hands on work since I didn't have a Kitchen Aid mixer with a dough hook (and still don't).

I'll see if I can root it out...

BabyMoonPie · 02/11/2022 17:43

I'm glad I asked - I've got time to test lots of recipes and different kinds of buns

Ikea ones are good for scandi style, but American style Cinnabon are also fab! They're just starting postal ones too.

Really!? I LOVE Cinnabon. I haven't had a UK one yet but had them in several US cities and they are my favourite

Wow - I never realized you could get Cinnabon in the UK!

SpookyMcGhoul · 02/11/2022 19:09

@BabyMoonPie they're almost as good!!! The by post ones have just been announced my local Cinnabon (an hours drive each way 😂) was telling me 😊
