I’m going to get home next week from a camping trip, so the equipment will be back in the attic. Whilst up there shall I just get every down and decorate for Xmas?

ir is it still early?

Our neighbours have theirs up.

I'm sitting on my hands until the first Sunday in advent as usual, but it'll be difficult (also as usual).

You know what though - two years ago when we were all in the depths of covid and whatever number lockdown it was, going for evening walks in October and seeing early Christmas lights was a real tonic. There seemed to be a collective decision here that everyone would decorate early and it made such a difference. While I'm not necessarily advocating decorating in September, it's definitely true that when things are a bit shit seeing all the light and colour really lifts the spirits. And things really are a bit shit right now.

So, yaknow...

I grew up in a house where we put the Christmas tree up at the start of Christmas school holidays which was only a week or so before the big day!

I have had my own place for 6 years and started putting decs up mid December but found that it just didn't feel enough time! I now strive to put them up on 1st December though I don't always get it done.

I don't think even I could bear to have them up in September though. I have toyed with the idea of mirroring when they start to go up in our local massive shopping centre which would be around last week of November..

Much too early.

Awww, I remember seeing lots of "fuck it" posts on Mnet about this and how everyone was breaking out the Christmas decs to lift the spirits Smile

I adore Christmas and I’m well on my way with shopping… but I still think it’s too early!! 1st November is still a teeny bit early

SavingsThreads · 29/09/2022 20:34

It. Is. September.

Suzi888 · 29/09/2022 20:35

last weekend in November. But I do have two reindeer type ornaments and a squirrel 😂 they were in the Christmas area but don’t scream Christmas….

Burnt0utMum · 29/09/2022 21:17

If it'll make you happy, do it. I have a twig tree in the living room that I've just put my Halloween decorations on and have a few autumnal bits of the coffee table. Also have fairy lights across the Welsh dresser in the dining room which I generally leave up most of the year. Just added some bat ones to them ready for October. Will probably start to change towards Xmas stuff mid November with the tree going up last around the last week in November.

I never understand people that say you'll be bored of the decorations by Christmas. Do you get bored of your usual decor/ornaments in the year? No difference.

BeachStripes · 30/09/2022 00:38

I’m going into the attic this week to put the tree up there until Christmas. In my defence I’ve been pregnant all year and it has been boxed but in the main house! Having read this maybe I shouldn’t bother!

tulips27 · 30/09/2022 00:40

No

PorridgewithQuark · 30/09/2022 10:20

Openmouthinsertfood I'm not a fan of ornaments and don't have them - I don't think many people under 70 have ornaments any more do they? Assuming that ornaments means statuettes and figurines and similar purely ornamental, not functional, small items on shelves and surfaces... I'd definitely get bored of anything like that after a month!

Shiningstarr · 30/09/2022 10:41

Absolutely not.

Ahhbiscuits · 30/09/2022 23:12

😦 at people commenting saying it’s “fucking mental” or “insane”? Strong words much?!

If it makes you happy putting them up OP do it. It’s your house, you pay the bills, do what you want. It’s hurting no one 🤷🏼‍♀️ Never understood this massive drama about decorations going up early.. was the same last year on here as well.

Whaaaat? No, no, no. It’s nowhere near Christmas. Why do people do this?

Putting up Christmas decorations doesn’t make it Christmas. Jeez. I understand everything is shit at the moment But still.

Of course it doesn't make it Christmas, but if it makes them happy, where's the harm?
