I realise I must be very unusual, we have no dependants living with us so just me and DH , I generally take all things down around 30th Dec, personally cannot wait to take down put away and get back to normal, Anyone else ?

4th January for similar reason to Huckleberries. My DS birthday is on the 3rd so we always kept the decorations up until the day after. He will be 31 and doesn’t live at home but tradition has stuck.

DappledThings · 31/12/2021 14:43

Twelfth Night or the day after. No earlier than the 5th and no later than the 6th. Putting up decorations then taking them down before the 12 days are done is really weird to me.

stargirl1701 · 31/12/2021 14:44

Usually Twelfth Night but I would love to keep a tree up until Candlemas.

PinkLime · 31/12/2021 15:04

We are taking ours down tomorrow - we absolutely love Christmas but are always ready to take the tree/decs down round about now. They have been up since the start of Dec though, so have had a good running.

Like a pp said, I like to start the NY fresh and new, have abit of a clean etc. it’s a mindset thing.

TabbyM · 31/12/2021 15:08

Epiphany, but tree only went up mid-December

annonymousse · 31/12/2021 15:10

Just finished stashing mine back into the cupboard under the stairs. I love the feeling of space in the room once they come down.

Riverlee · 31/12/2021 15:18

Eldest dc returns home on 2nd January so we’ll take them down after he leaves. Also only put them up mid-December.

echt · 01/01/2022 20:34

Up on Christmas Eve, down on Twelfth Night for me.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 01/01/2022 20:36

Today. Nice to clear the decks for the new year

lomoloko · 01/01/2022 20:53

Up on Christmas Eve, down on Twelfth Night (5 January, day before Epiphany).

storkstalk · 01/01/2022 20:53

New Year’s Day

Showpan · 01/01/2022 20:58

Loved taking them down yesterday as the place feels so clean today. Would have done sooner except been ill. Just wasn't feeling the decorations this year!

HashtagShitShop · 01/01/2022 20:58

I didn't bother this year, somehow my Christmas spirit had gone walkies. Still doesn't feel like it has been Christmas. Very strange year, more strange feeling this year than last year.

I digress. Usually they're down between 27th and 30th. I can't see the point of keeping them up a few days after things go back to normal /people return to school etc and they have to take them down when tired and fed up from work etc.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/01/2022 22:30

New Year's Day

C8H10N4O2 · 01/01/2022 23:13

Twelgth night.

Tournaments66 · 01/01/2022 23:33

All came down today. Loved Christmas but was happy to pack everything up.

Timeisavirtue · 01/01/2022 23:43

The 6th of jan, mainly because DS birthday is the 5th and he loves the lights, (he has ASD) before he was born it used to be New Year’s Day.

immersivereader · 01/01/2022 23:47

Mine are coming down tomorrow, Jan 2

PaddleBoardingMomma · 02/01/2022 00:04

27th of December, I like to deep clean the house and start the year afresh. Like a pp said it's a mindset thing.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 02/01/2022 01:09

1st Jan.

Except this year, because of when holidays have fallen, I have been lazy. It is coming down today. Maybe tomorrow.

blibblibs · 02/01/2022 01:18

Ours have been up since the 30 Nov and I haven't even thought of taking them down yet.
Must look up when Candlemas is and I might leave them up until then.

MadMadMadamMim · 02/01/2022 01:20

Last year was so shit with Covid and we were ill, and the schools were shut, that I left mine up til Candlemas (2 Feb this year) because I read that this is a Polish tradition and it was just the excuse I was looking for to keep a bit of joy and sparkle through a miserable January.

This year, I'll probably take them down the weekend after Twelfth Night. I'm at work all next week and don't want to spend my evening working as well. I'll probably wait til the Saturday to pack everything up.

gbpaln · 02/01/2022 08:12

Up on 30th Nov and down 27th December.

romany4 · 02/01/2022 10:50

Always 12th night.
I love Christmas. It's my favourite thing.
I start getting excited in September and my tree goes up mid November.
I hate taking it all down. Knowing I have to wait months for Winter and for it all to start again

DrunkenKoala · 02/01/2022 19:40

Usually NYD, but we’ve been busy yesterday and today so we’re doing it tomorrow. We usually put them up the first Saturday in Dec so I’m ready for them to come down now.
