I realise I must be very unusual, we have no dependants living with us so just me and DH , I generally take all things down around 30th Dec, personally cannot wait to take down put away and get back to normal, Anyone else ?

I started tidying up this morning & then decided to take the tree down & put everything away.
It's not usually down so quickly after Christmas Day, but we have a puppy this year - already that corner of our lounge looks more spacious & tidy without the tree & yards of tinsel.

This year though it was pretty minimal anyway, I have done Buntings & a mini tree in the hall by the front door & loads of sparkly bits around the walls & windows.

26th or 27th.

I absolutely cannot stand Christmas after Christmas Day!!!! Seems weird to me that people have them hanging around until the first week in Jan 🤯

Legomania · 26/12/2021 22:32

Definitely by the end of the Christmas holiday. I can't stand to drag it out once it's over and we're back to school/work

DramaAlpaca · 26/12/2021 22:35

Twelfth night here.

Do you know what Christmas actually is? I would suggest you are weird for thinking it's weird to have decorations up until 12th night.
maryzx · 26/12/2021 22:39

I put them up on Christmas Eve, and they come down on 1st January.

ohidoliketobe · 26/12/2021 22:39

Usually start gradually taking stuff down from the 2nd, but always leave wreath on the door and the lounge tree until twelfth night. Christmas is very much the whole school holiday period at this house.

MovinOnUp · 26/12/2021 22:40

I usually take everything down on the 30th or 31st.
I like to give the house a good clean before the new year.

SundayTeatime · 26/12/2021 22:45

Twelfth Night. Definitely not before. 12 days isn’t very long. Roughly the last week of December, the first week of January is traditional holiday period. I think it’s odd to take anything down earlier.

Hebeee · 26/12/2021 22:45

We always leave ours up till 12th night.

This year (or rather in Jan 2022, lol!) we'll be beginning the next phase of building work that in the first instance involves stripping everything out of the living room in order to take up the quarry tiled floor.

As a result of which I'm in two minds as to whether I'm looking forward to the decs coming down or not.... because once they do, it's all systems go 🙄

It is traditional to keep them up until 12th night. I don't understand people who trim up in November or early December.
StormyCornishSeas · 26/12/2021 22:49

12th night only finished putting the decorations up last Tuesday

SilverRingahBells · 26/12/2021 22:50

December 25th is the first day of Christmas and January 5th is the 12th. You take the decorations down when Christmas is over.
More pragmatically we normally have a party on New Year's Eve and I like to have the decorations still up for that. I don't put them up until mid December so I'm not yet tired of them.

CheshireKitten123 · 26/12/2021 22:50

Twelfth Night or the day before.

Essemce · 26/12/2021 22:53

Mine have been taken down today

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 26/12/2021 22:54

I’ll take mine down on 29/30th I don’t like them up for New Year’s Eve.

Legomania · 26/12/2021 23:11

I'm aware of (and grew up with) the 12 days tradition but with young children and a job that starts with a bang on the first working day of the year, it makes it more enjoyable for us to keep our Christmas celebrations to December.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 27/12/2021 12:29

Twelfth night.

It makes me really sad to see them coming down before new year.

jaundicedoutlook · 27/12/2021 17:33

Tomorrow (28th).

I’ve been itching to take them down today, but will restrain self until tomorrow when the in-laws disappear. Absolutely have to have them down before NY eve, when the whole house has to have a New Year clean and tidy blitz.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 27/12/2021 17:34

Normally the 31st, but they're coming down on the 30th this year. They annoy me once Christmas is over

crazyjinglist · 27/12/2021 17:37

I doubt you're unusual at all OP. A lot of people seem to put their decorations up so early that I'm not surprised they are sick of the sight of them by 30th December!

We put ours up on about 14th or 15th December and usually take them down on 2nd January after our NY guests leave.

WhatIsThisPlease · 27/12/2021 17:39

New Year's Day for the tree (if it's still alive by then). Will probably take all the other bits and bobs down tomorrow

AndrewPreview · 27/12/2021 17:42

Normally 2nd or 3rd of Jan depending on work schedules etc.

JaninaDuszejko · 27/12/2021 17:55

12th night. But they've not been up a week yet so not bored of them. Love the week between Christmas and Hogmanay, relaxing, chatting, reading, playing board games with the family, this is what Christmas is about.
