What are you building tonight?

Who is joining me in the annual toy build? What are you building?

We need to put together a kitchen. Feeling quite smug cos it's already half done. Just need to fasten the top to the bottom and attach the cupboard doors.

The bloody thing has already caused a lot of swearing and need for the first aid box, so hoping the last bits won't take too long!

I remember the year my dd asked for the Barbie camper van…..2 adult men, 1 of whom was an engineer, all night Christmas Eve and most of Christmas Day.

They are all grown and left the nest now. We spend the next couple of days with each dc and dgc so I have no doubt that Grandad will be in the thick of it, in fact he has already packed screwdrivers and Alan keys! 😂

FairFuming · 24/12/2021 20:30

2 giant cardboard igloos...if I can ever get the 3yo to sleep again

ThirdElephant · 24/12/2021 20:32

Kitchen, market stall and garage. Or at least I was, but DS apparently didn't get the memo about the whole silent night thing, so I'm waiting for him to go to sleep.

Tempusfudgeit · 24/12/2021 20:33

Cozy coupe people! How the hell do you get the horizontal screws from the cup holder area into the vertical struts that hold the roof up? My screwdriver doesn't fit. Swearing is occurring!

MaizeBlouse · 24/12/2021 20:34

Ive got to wrap all of DSs (4 and 2) presents and build a playmobil playhouse Blush and neither of them are asleep!!!

Sherrytriflestrull · 24/12/2021 20:39

@oneofthose

DH has built a cozy coupe truck over the last few nights. He says never again! If we ever need another it will be second hand and pre assembled
I agree! They are horrific to build.
Treaclepie19 · 24/12/2021 20:40

Absolutely nothing!!
I asked dh to build the scooter last night and he took it out the box to find it was already done Grin

Having a snowball and some cheese and crackers Wine

Pumpkinstace · 24/12/2021 20:42

Four kids here aged 5, 6, 8 &10.

All wired with no sign of sleep in sight. Not a single gift wrapped.

Ffs.

Cravingcake · 24/12/2021 20:45

No building required this year thankfully but have got a lot of wrapping still to do….

May the strength of baileys, wine, Prosecco & determination to make our kids bloody well enjoy it until the small hours when we can finally rest …. For a few precious hours at least…

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 24/12/2021 20:48

Those years are long gone for me.
But it reminded me of the year we almost forgot to put the Santa presents and stockings out before we went to bed Shock .

So whatever you are building right now, at least you won't make that mistake.

bananasinchristmaspyjamas · 24/12/2021 20:51

@Pumpkinstace oh no! I really feel for you!

Incywinceyspider · 24/12/2021 20:51

To everyone building a cosy coupe, you have my sympathy. DS got one for his birthday and I devoted a whole thread to it! They are an absolute bugger to put together!

Just a wooden doctors surgery/pharmacy! It has gone quite smoothly tbh which I'm very grateful for as I've had a couple of wines and still have presents to wrap

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 24/12/2021 20:55

Two desks and chairs.

Although I'm sitting watching jamie Oliver, DH is doing it all in the back room which has a door that's lockable from the inside, very handy at Christmas!

Hoppinggreen · 24/12/2021 20:57

Good luck to you all
Thankfully (sadly) those days are well behind us but I will be setting my alarm for 2am to help santa fill and transfer the stockings from the mantelpiece Up to the nocturnal teenagers bedrooms

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 24/12/2021 20:58

I spent three hours on the fucking floor building a pirate ship that was 'minimal build. Holy shit l will never forget that trauma.

Obsidiansphere · 24/12/2021 20:58

Here in spirit with you all after having to do this x 4 with all my children (now, thankfully older) 👍👍👏👏🙌🙌 you can do this….🥂🥂

Loudestcat14 · 24/12/2021 21:07

I'm [sadly] past that stage with my tweenager, but I have huge sympathy for all of you assembling and still wrapping tonight, because I haven't forgotten the year I suddenly realised the Animagic rescue ambulance didn't come with the stickers already applied and we had to put 50+ of them on at midnight after a few wines. Wonky doesn't come close...

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/12/2021 21:09

We were supposed to be building a kitchen but the oven door is missing!
Had to email to try to get a replacement and our DD will be getting a leapfrog ice cream cart instead.

Silversun83 · 24/12/2021 21:12

Nothing! DH assembled the dolls' bunkbeds last night... Xmas Smile

All wrapped last week too and now downstairs 😇 Though I still have to play Tooth Fairy as DD decided lost a tooth today.. She was not amused when I joked earlier about FC and TF getting their roles mixed up Grin

StylishDuck · 24/12/2021 21:47

Oh god. I still have horrible flashbacks from the cosy coupe and it was 4 years ago. The front two wheels are forever the wrong way round on ours because we didn't realise until they were on and there was no way to get them off again.

Thankfully we aren't building anything this year. Especially after the dolls house/train table double whammy last year Confused

Winterfellismyhome · 24/12/2021 21:55

Paw patrol tower built and one of the bloody buttons doesnt work Angry

Also managed to intercept 3 year old DS, who had come downstairs, before he got into the living room Wink

Ylvamoon · 24/12/2021 21:55

Sadly nothing! DC are to old!

But this thread brings back memories of a trike we bought from TOYSRUS nicely boxed up in 1001 bits! Took a lot of swearing, walk out and divorce announcements plus 5 hours to build.

Notthissticky · 24/12/2021 21:57

This thread has given me a much-needed giggle! DS1 is 3 so this is the first year we're doing proper Santa. DH has assembled a rocking horse for the baby and then I got seriously angry with the micro scooter for DS1. Takes two people and tools to get the handle bars off. Removable my arse!!!

TwistedOlivers · 24/12/2021 21:59

The patience to deal with my 'D'M for 7 hours tomorrow
Yup.
Thats what I'm building
