Got DS the mighty pups paw patrol tower after wrapping all his gifts Confused

UsernameInTheTown · 23/12/2021 07:28

Twitched and bought two small Baby Alive dolls and a large Squishmallow pillow thing in B&M yesterday. Couldn't resist.

Filterphobia · 23/12/2021 08:02

I’m twitching too, off to buy DS a goldfish today!

LowlyTheWorm · 23/12/2021 08:06

Got ds a massage gun on a twitch.
Want to twitch for DH as we buy our own gifts for ourselves through agreement… but now I feel guilty.
I won’t twitch…

KoreyBay18 · 23/12/2021 08:10

For the first time ever I'm looking at what DS already has under the tree, dreading the thought of adding his santa present, stocking and a sack full frome, and have decided to hold back a couple of bigger gifts til the New Year!

Bonkerz · 23/12/2021 08:22

I finished my Christmas shopping at the end of October and really thought I wouldn't be able to stop BUT I haven't bought another thing! I've been tempted (especially when adult child said her dad refused to buy her the only thing she's asked him for ...perfume) but I've resisted.

crazyjinglist · 23/12/2021 08:38

I'd never heard of this twitching thing - is it a purely MN term? I don't think I've ever done it tbh. We don't buy more than a couple of presents for any one person, so keeping on adding extra bits isn't really a thing we'd do!

A real one? They need a lot of filtration. You might be better with small tropical. Goldfish are harder to keep alive
Filterphobia · 23/12/2021 09:00

@hedgehogger1 really? I never would have thought goldfish were harder than tropical. Will see what the pet store suggest. I’m tempted to just buy the tank, we did plan on getting a filter as well, and wrapping that up. Then do an IOU for the actual fish and he can go choose the one he wants after Boxing Day. I can’t decide if that would be disappointing though, opening an empty tank.

The logistics of getting it home and set up without him seeing is proving difficult.

hedgehogger1 · 23/12/2021 09:04

@Filterphobia yes have a quick read of some fish keeping sites before you choose. Goldfish are more designed for ponds. If you don't want to go the heater route look at things like zebra danios. Or even have a shrimp tank :). Goldfish need a massive space to have a chance at staying healthy www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/beginners-hub/the-beginners-guide-picking-your-first-tropical-aquarium-fish/

Soubriquet · 23/12/2021 09:04

I twitched and bought ds the squeaky balloon dinosaur after buying dd loads of books Grin

Soubriquet · 23/12/2021 09:05

Also RE fish, you need to cycle the tank for at least 12 weeks to make sure the levels are ok

Definitely better to get and set up the tank first I would have thought- but as PP said, do research the amount of space different fish need. Pet stores don't always give correct info on this subject. Fish need far more space than a lot of people realise. Plus a tank needs time to establish before adding fish ideally (look up cycling a fish tank). I don't think there's many pet stores that would agree with taking tank and fish on the same day. We keep a tank with a male betta fish who we absolutely adore (should be kept alone if male). He's great and has real personality. But we had to do lots of research as the tanks sold for betta fish are often tiny- he's in a lovely roomy tank with lots of plants Smile Goldfish need tons of room and agree are more suited to ponds as they grow. Good luck with your research Smile

This.

Buying a tank, filling it with water and just sticking some fish in it straight away is a recipe for dead fish in short order. Fish are a lot harder to keep than many people think. Any reputable aquatics store should advise you on this though. If they’re happy to just sell you fish without chatting through your set up, it’s a sign to avoid buying.

Filterphobia · 23/12/2021 09:25

Thanks @hedgehogger1@checketycheck
We’ve gone for a tropical fish tank and a gift voucher for him to go to the store and choose his own fish. They did say tropicals are easier to keep and goldfish need huge tanks as they grow so big.

Wombat69 · 23/12/2021 09:27

So pleased to see all the good goldfish advice. 🙂

hedgehogger1 · 23/12/2021 09:27

Fab news @Filterphobia :)

Lulu1919 · 23/12/2021 09:28

I twitch ...but over food .....

BEE08 · 23/12/2021 09:40

I twitched yesterday after watching toddler DS with his doll at Nanny and Grandads house, I bought him one for home. Just need to find a cheap baby's bottle to go with it.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 23/12/2021 09:53

I twitched yesterday and got a pop up tent for toddler. I remembered how much my older ones loved a pop up tent when they were 2 and that was it, straight on Amazon 😂

I'm about to twitch again later when I get DD11 a watercolour painting set I spotted in Lidl - that's after my 'big twitch' on Monday where I got her all the £3.99 Harry Potter gifts (also from Lidl) - that shop has been my twitching downfall this year 😂

Silversun83 · 23/12/2021 09:58

Twiched earlier in the week and bought DD5 a mini 3inch Ariel doll (she had the set of six mini princesses, but lost the Ariel one). Almost twitched again and got her Anna and Elsa ones, but managed to resist.

Thought I was done twitching but then twitched again yesterday and bought her a mini cry baby doll after she said it was the thing she was most looking forward to getting (it was on her list but she has four others already that, although she does play with, not excessively so!).

Had got DS3 a Thomas the Tank Engine Busy Book (each year they get one), but I decided he'd much prefer the dinosaur one, so will keep the Thomas one back for his birthday...

I'd already twitched for both of them on getting some Schleich figures for their stockings...

Thankfully no huge twitches but the small ones seem to be adding up Confused

Same here! Luckily just £4/£5 twitches, but the pot is running dry!

StruggleStreet · 23/12/2021 10:12

I was doing so well, after finishing all my shopping by mid November, I didn’t buy anything else. That was until a late night Amazon Prime binge yesterday and I now have a pop up pirate and some cocomelon tat winging it’s way to me just in time to arrive on Christmas Eve. Oops.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 23/12/2021 10:14

I love the twitching thread, makes me feel slightly better about last minute purchases 😂

Winterfellismyhome · 23/12/2021 10:41

Same! @KurtWildesChristmasNamechange
