Just seen the news that the Netherlands are going into lockdown… do you think we will be in restrictions by Christmas Day?

I really hope not.. we have a holiday home for 3 households booked Xmas Smile

OP posts:
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/12/2021 18:23

No because no one would listen- fuck over the last few businesses still bringing in an income and infections won’t drop - after Xmas maybe

Ginlovingmumof4 · 18/12/2021 18:46

No. Nobody would adhere to restrictions after the number 10 Christmas parties fiasco. Maybe at the beginning of the new year but I doubt even that.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/12/2021 18:47

29th December onwards

Lacedwithgrace · 18/12/2021 18:49

Hopefully we will be!

GettingStuffed · 18/12/2021 18:51

They'll wait until after Christmas, they daren't do anything to make us like them any less at the moment.

Joraa · 18/12/2021 18:58

No one will follow it.

LittleBabyCheeses · 18/12/2021 19:09

We might be, we might not. Not sure anyone will pay any attention anyway.
I, and all my adult family members have had 3 vaccinations. We all wear masks where we’re told to, and we all take LFT’s twice a week.
Unless any of us are ill, we’ll be spending Christmas together.

WoodenReindeer · 18/12/2021 19:10

I dont think anyone would following but I'm wondering if we will after.

I hate the inbetween not knowing period.

froobie · 18/12/2021 19:11

@Lacedwithgrace

Hopefully we will be!
Curious-why would you hope for that?
DigitalGhost · 18/12/2021 19:12

I think after Xmas as I don't know a soul who will cancel this year unless they're actually unwell.

ByTheHarbour · 18/12/2021 19:39

The Dutch "full lockdown" does not include domestic travel restrictions or a household mixing ban. In fact the Dutch have never had either of those things.

There is official advice (not law) to have no more than two visitors at home per day, increased to four per day from 24th-26 December and on New Years Eve.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-59713503

Remember that when, inevitably, the usual shouty voices now start citing the Netherlands as justification for criminalising household mixing in the UK.

WoodenReindeer · 18/12/2021 19:41

They are closing schools though...

BluebellsGreenbells · 18/12/2021 19:42

Right so all the shops and bars will remain open in a two finger salute to Boris?
Kids will be attending closed schools?

Love yo see how that’s going to happen.

ByTheHarbour · 18/12/2021 19:46

@WoodenReindeer

They are closing schools though...
They have a different Christmas Holiday to us. They have closed schools for a week before Christmas (ie this week coming), which was announced before today. The normal scheduled Christmas holidays then last until 9th January, and no decision has yet been made about reopening schools after that.
Mrsmch123 · 18/12/2021 20:25

They can't keep moving the goal posts. They told us lockdown to protect the nhs....we need to protect the most vulnerable....get your vaccinations it's the only way out....get your boosters.... we can't stop the world every time a new variant comes around. I don't know how we live with the virus but we need to learn how to otherwise we will be forever in and out of lockdowns🤷🏻‍♀️

Longbarn5 · 18/12/2021 20:58

If we are locked down entirely it is difficult to ignore. I believe they set up road blocks to stop people crossing counties, etc. The 2021 party fiasco has our Boris in a very, very difficult situation. What a bunch or idiots!,

Nowayoutonlydown · 18/12/2021 21:45

I hope not, and sorry to say- I've followed every rule (and often gone beyond!) But if we're out into lockdown over Christmas I will not be following the rule.

I'm sorry, but I just will not do it.
Everyone at the table will be triple jabbed except for DD who has had her 1st (due 2nd on Jan 6th)
We've seen too much disruption the past two years whilst the MPs have ignored their own rules. I will make my own risk assessments.

PIL and we will all test before seeing each other for Christmas

Stopsnowing · 18/12/2021 21:47

I think the ban on household mixing is the cruellest restriction, the greatest breach of our human rights and they won’t be able to get compliance this time around.

Stopsnowing · 18/12/2021 21:48

Also unlike last year we are all fully jabbed and have lfts.

Longbarn5 · 18/12/2021 22:46

I agree with the general conviction on here to be honest. They have really done no favours for themselves with their partying last year while people were saying goodbye to dying loved ones on an I pad. Diabolica!!

OhGiveUp · 18/12/2021 22:47

I doubt many people will avoid mixing over Christmas, or alter their plans, especially after the recent revelations of the government parties last year.
I think Boris knows this and will wait until after Christmas to lockdown, if at all.
Particularly with the mixed messages about omicron this weekend.

Longbarn5 · 18/12/2021 22:47

That said, one of our family isn't jabbed due to severe needle phobia. Getting therapy for that is a very long waiting list!,

Sostenueto · 18/12/2021 23:10

Unfortunately the virus has no boundaries. It's only mission in life is to infect as many people it can and mutate to continue it's existence. In so doing people get very ill and people die. If you don't want restrictions and you want to live with Covid just how many deaths per day are you willing to accept so you can live with the virus? 200,300, 500 or a 1000?

And to those who think people won't obey anymore restrictions then you cannot criticise those you are angry with for breaking rules when you yourself are willing to do the same. But I know a lot if you are better than that on here and you will do the decent and right thing and follow the rules if only to safeguard yourselves and loved ones because if you don't then this will go on forever and your agony will be much more prolonged.

Sostenueto · 18/12/2021 23:18

7 people already dead from Omicron here in UK and that was just at start of variant a couple of weeks ago. Doesn't sound much but in 2 weeks time when infections of omricom now at 10k and not just a handful how many deaths then? We still have delta killing people every day that's still here. Both combined and infections now doubling after 2 days or less what will the figures in hospital and fatalities look like in another 2-3 weeks. Every bed taken by Covid is a bed less for heart cancer and other illnesses the excess deaths will be horrendous!

FrownedUpon · 18/12/2021 23:18

Well if a lockdown is needed, it’s needed. It’s ridiculous to say, oh well let’s wait until after Xmas, after lots of households have already mixed and spread it around even more 🙄
