Child's December birthday

Just wanted some ideas...
If your child's birthday was in the first week and a half of December...
Would you wait to put the tree up until after their birthday, or not?

It's her first birthday this year, and as she gets older, part of me feels I should keep Xmas and her birthday separate.
(but I'm also desperate to enjoy my Xmas. Decs too!)

DH's birthday is on the 11th. DMil used to say that it was all part of the autumn build up to Christmas with Halloween, Bonfire Night, DSil's birthday, school events,DH's birthday etc. Mind you I am fairly sure Christmas trees weren't put up in early December in those days. We tend to put our tree up the Sunday before Christmas unless we have any sort of event.

SummerBluez · 28/11/2021 09:46

My daughter's the 12th December and she loves that her birthday ties in with Christmas. She would be very annoyed if I delayed putting the tree up.
I wouldn't wait, get the tree up Grin

Tiredmum100 · 28/11/2021 09:49

I would wait, but then we don't put the tree up until the 2nd weekend of December usually anyway. My ds has his birthday a few days after Christmas so I make sure I take all the Christmas cards down so his birthday cards are put up, and ensure we have a birthday cake, no Christmas wrapping paper etc.

Dd3 is on the 10th dec ds2 is on the 14th. Tree goes up end of November. We don't decorate for birthdays though regardless of date.

pompomsgalore · 28/11/2021 10:26

My birthday is in the first week of December. Christmas can't start until I've had my birthday.

Bootsnshoes · 28/11/2021 10:27

Our entire house are December babies. Tree goes up on Dec 8th regardless.

JetRocket · 28/11/2021 10:27

Mine is a few days before Christmas and celebrating with decorations up never bothered me in the slightest x

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 28/11/2021 10:30

We do all Xmas decs in early Dec and the tree goes up after DSs birthday. Mainly it's a space issue but its just the way we do it.

whosaidtha · 28/11/2021 10:42

My birthday is beginning of jan and I always asked to leave the decorations up. We never did. My dd is 17th Dec and decorations are going up today!!

JumperandJacket · 28/11/2021 12:30

DS’s due date was 8/12 and we vowed not to do anything Christmassy until after his birthday.

In the end he was really late and born on 23/12 and our vow went completely out of the window.

Whatwillbewilbe · 28/11/2021 12:36

I've always had the tree up on my birthday (28th December) and it's never bothered me. My son's birthday is 18th December and it's never bothered him either. Mine goes up on 1st December.

Amandasummers · 28/11/2021 12:38

I don’t wait until after my dd’s birthday. when she was old enough to ask, I asked her, and she has continued to want the Christmas decorations up prior to her birthday as normal (which is a relief as I would have been a bit gutted at having to wait 🤪)

Mol1628 · 28/11/2021 12:47

Sons is the 11th. We always decorate on the 12th. Nothing Christmas apart from advent calendars till then.
Two weeks is more than enough of a build up with the tree up etc though I don’t think it needs to be longer.

SquigglePigs · 28/11/2021 12:50

DD is three this year (first week of December). We're waiting til after her birthday for everything Christmas except her advent calendar. When she's older she can choose whether she wants us to wait or not

knightsinwhitesatin · 28/11/2021 13:26

My DD is 3 on the 7th and we got our tree this weekend. So far she enjoys the festivities and doesn’t detract from her birthday.

stridesy · 28/11/2021 15:39

My daughters birthday is on the 6th and we are putting up decs the weekend before her birthday. We normally do first weekend oh is off in December. This year she has a pink tree for her room.

ParkheadParadise · 28/11/2021 15:48

My dd's birthday is the 5th.
I've ordered a balloon display I also have banners. No Christmas decorations go up until a week after her birthday.

Lipsandlashes · 28/11/2021 19:14

My daughter’s birthday is 16 Dec. We are always fully decorated by then as we like to have the tree up for the beginning of advent. I try and put birthday related decorations on the other side of the sitting room.

mam0918 · 28/11/2021 19:42

We have a new years child and we leave the decor up.

We have a Halloween baby and a Valentine's baby and they have to deal with related holiday stuff too... it's just a part of life.

My birthday is also in the runup and what annoyed me as a kid was not decor or traditions that existed around my birthday or any other seasonal things but rather simply people who gifted thoughtless useless 'seasonal' items as if my birthday being then made it my whole identity. I hated seeing my friends with summer birthdays get gifts they loved to do with personal likes and hobbies and I got a random novelty seasonal decoration for mine.

Basically, Valentine's babies don't want hearts and love everything, Halloween babies don't want ghosts and Witch everything, Christmas babies don't want Santa and Snowman everything (those should be for the holiday celebrations, not birthday gifts) but the actual season and its standard celebrations don't stop and can be quite nice as long as the lines are drawn that the birthday is in the time frame but a SEPERATE event.

BettyOBarley · 28/11/2021 20:41

My birthday is 12th Dec and my mum always used to wait to put the tree up until after. I don't know why though as I love my birthday being near xmas so doesn't bother me at all. DDs birthday is the end of Nov and last year due to Covid making life a bit miserable we put it up a couple of days before her bday and she loved it!

Onceuponatimethen · 28/11/2021 20:43

I would ask her

Onceuponatimethen · 28/11/2021 20:44

As she gets older obviously!!

tiutinkerbell · 29/11/2021 07:23

My birthday is the 19th and I always HAD to have the tree up for my birthday. Non-negotiable in our house.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 29/11/2021 07:26

We always do it after birthdays here

Noeuf · 29/11/2021 07:28

Dd is on 14th and we never decorated before. Partly birthday and partly I hate decorations lingering so it’s evolved to tree and decorations up weekend before Christmas and down on 27th.
