Would I regret putting my tree up now?

Feeling a bit low due to the dark weather, and wondering if putting up the tree will brighten up the next few weeks a bit.

We have family visiting soon who probably would like the tree.

But, we also have a 9 year old, 2 year old and baby. Will the 9 year old feel sick of tree by xmas? Will the 2 year old break all the baubles? Will I live to regret putting it up so early?

I normally wait until early December.

Put it up! Make yourself happy!

If it will make you happy and you won't be itching to take it down before Christmas then go for it!

I absolutely love Christmas, I've been watching Christmas movies since the kids went back to school in September! I tend to stagger my decorations though. I have fairy lights outside that go on every evening through autumn & winter, plus fairy lights in a plant & some warm lamps in my living room, all on a timer. At the start of December I put up the actual Christmas lights and certain bits. Everything else gradually gets decorated as I go along but the tree tends to be last as I wait until the kids are around to "help".
Last year I had a second tree in a different room and that went up around now as I opened it to check it & never took it down! I didn't get sick of that one before Christmas but perhaps because it wasn't in my living room.

Yes!

Your two year old is going to do something destructive to the tree regardless of when it goes up. Just throwing that out there.

I wouldn't do it just yet but I don't think you need to wait until December. First day of Advent is November 28th. I would do it in time for this day Smile

I love Christmas but it’s too early for the tree imo (since you asked - if others want to put it up now that’s okay too of course, do what makes you happy).

What I do is once the clocks change I go right into autumn hygge mode - a string of fairy lights isn’t necessarily just for Christmas, for example. I put out my little candle holders in the fireplace to light up the dark afternoons and evenings, and I bring out the fragrance oils to get that extra cosiness factor (my candles are all unscented). My fragrance for this month is Laurel Bay essential oil, on Nigel Slater’s recommendation, because I’m doing the Christmas Chronicles read-along on here, and I have to say I really love it. But I’m also looking forward to switching to Frankincense and Myrrh when December rolls around - there’s so much pleasure in anticipation and IMO rushing things really takes away some of the magic of the present. Instead I slow right down and make the effort to enjoy what’s happening now, whilst also looking forward to what’s coming next.

I love the idea of changing scents. I like essential oils etc too, and sometimes dip my own insence and make my own candles. Perhaps time for something like that!

I think hygge mode is a good idea. Fluffy socks are coming out. I will find out about Christmas Cronicles, and at very least watch the film!
