Christmas Poncing fine, but surely this is insane?

I read this ‘advice’ in the Daily Wail today. Some party expert or other.

Utilise the floor space by weaving garlands between presents under the Christmas tree and add fake snow to corners and the bottom of table legs.

I also use toy trains snaking through the presents or travelling through the dining table. Both can be bought cheaply, and look adorable, creating the wonder of a Christmas morning.

Fake snow on table legs anyone?

I love this thread.

I just get the butler to put on a pixie hat and sprinkle guests with individually sculpted crystal snowflakes.

@Thanksagainand

I remember seeing a Sunday supplement from years ago where they had photos of this marvellous cottage where the designer had made paper decorations from wonderfully festive pink copies of the FT. Even as a kid it seemed stupid! And they get paid for this?
Its very Jilly Copper.

There is a Hogwarts train (Lego 75955) which is £56 in Argos & John Lewis at the moment.
It doesn't have an engine or track (you can get them separately) but you could mod it into a pretty enough Christmas train if you don't put the Hogwarts stickers on it.

You can look up the instructions on the Lego website & build Christmas bits from any set (like the Christmas train) as most of them are just small green bits for trees with the one dot round bits as the baubles, or use the other random tiny odds & ends you often find in your hoover if you own Lego.

Just don't get 40138 as it's a tiny train you can't fit a minifig in.

This reminds me of the year I saw the trend of wrapping yards of tulle around the base, instead of a skirt. I got the first 20 wound artistically before new tiny kitten decided to assist. Her claws caught and she ran, tripping me up and I fell flat on my back. On top of her. She survived biut it was several thousands in animal hospital fees and many days of worry.

Bloody trends!

(Always fancied a train....)

This is the best thread ever, I nominate it for Classics.

@Insert1x20p

January prime time advertising slot: "Have you been injured in a toy train related Christmas incident that wasn't your fault?"
Where there's blame there's a train 🤣
MooseBeTimeForSnow · 14/11/2021 02:48

We’ve got snow already. Sick of the sight of it by Christmas!

WaterAndRichTea · 14/11/2021 02:50

Washing powder….
A perfect snow and smells nice too 😂

Amdone123 · 14/11/2021 03:13

I'm sat in bed ( bloody insomnia), trying so hard to not laugh too loudly for fear of waking everyone up. I'm actually crying 🤣
Thanks everyone - you are all so funny.

Figmentofimagination · 14/11/2021 03:43

I have a train that goes round my tree. We never turn it on as it's so noisy with its "choo-choo" noise. We had to take the batteries out of it last year as DS figured out how to switch it on.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 14/11/2021 08:45

I hate the "wooden tree" in the article, but I did see this one on FB a while ago, and I do actually like it! I don't have it, but I like the concept.

“Truly magical in a way that should make others feel deflated” is my new favourite sentence, thanks @CheeseMmmm

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 14/11/2021 09:07

Just pondering - would DS’s Star Wars scaletrix set do as a substitute train?

It could also add an element of jeopardy to Christmas dinner - you only get your turkey if you win your round. Not sure I fancy DG’s chances of getting a Christmas dinner this year.

domesticslattern · 14/11/2021 09:23

wtf is a "wooden tree"?
all real trees are wooden ffs
I am too old for this shit

supremelybaffled · 14/11/2021 14:31

@ThumbWitchesAbroad I'm liking that wooden tree. Doubles as shelves all year, and then you just ponce it up at Christmas. Brilliant idea, and something a person handy with wood could make really cheaply too.

Don’t forget the glitter spray for your festive dust bunnies
