Christmas cards.... is it just me?

I still send Christmas cards mainly because I've moved around a lot and it's one way of keeping in touch with people albeit annually (especially those who don't use social media). So a 'just don't bother sending' response is not what I am after here.

I try to buy from local charity shops but not averse to supermarkets' own and have often found WH Smiths and Next to have great cards. But I've not found any I've particularly liked this year (am in England).

I have also checked John Lewis and TKMaxx. I do make some cards but can't do homemade for everyone.

The only cards I've found this year that I like have been in the Card Factory, so this is not a snobby request at all, they are way cheaper and nicer than others I've seen. I can go back there and buy more of the same I guess but before I do ....

I appreciate it's a matter of personal preference, am not questioning anyone else's taste. So if you recognise what I'm saying, I.e. also struggling this year with cards, if you have found cards you are happy with, please send links.

My December is heavily committed with not particularly pleasant things so need to get the basics sorted ASAP. Thank you .

Our local garden centre has some lovely charity cards, we always get them from there. It's a Longacres but I think garden centres generally are quite good for cards and gifty stuff.

Have you tried Whistlefish? They often have discount codes which work with their normal offers. whistlefish.com/collections/christmas-cards-1

WholeClassKeptIn · 10/11/2021 04:47

We end up buying the kids overpriced ones from school. Job done!

I find I send far less these days. Only to older relatives really.

crispsarny · 10/11/2021 05:45

Another for Whistlefish here, lovely quality cards, they’re based in Cornwall, their Christmas cards give to various charities as well.

They usually do but there were hardly any left in the stores near me - large stores too.

Thanks everyone, glad it's not just me! I'm not even ridiculously fussy, and usually have to stop myself from buying more than I need.

I'll take a look at all your links and if I can't find something there then I need to get over myself! Am also going to have a look in a couple of garden centre, although they are usually very expensive.

A library in the next town hosts a stall every year with cards from a wide range of charities. A friend told me they weren't doing it this year - but they are, it just hasn't opened yet so will have a look in there when it does open and hopefully the. I'll be sorted!

You're welcome Wink

You can find some that are on sale in charity shops. I think that garden centers stock a limited variety too. My local post office also sells a handful. Additionally I know the local Sainsburys puts out a few every year for people to buy.

I like to get my cards from either the local post office, or a charity shop. Card Factory and the Works have some but they tend to be a bit more pricey.

Macmillan have some lovely ones

JumperandJacket · 10/11/2021 08:35

This year I have bought my cards from www.archivistgallery.com/category/cards?season_filter=christmas&type_filter=notelets-packs Not the cheapest at £7 for 5 but they are letterpress printed.

TheSpiral · 10/11/2021 08:40

I was thinking just the same, OP - I usually go to a church in town where they have a massive selection of cards from all the different charities, have been doing that for about ten years. I went there yesterday and wasn’t wowed at all. There’s a local hospice charity that usually has lovely cards so then I went to their shop, and they didn’t have much either.

treguffin · 10/11/2021 08:40

I bought ones from the garden centre. Fully recyclable (no glitter) and the pic on the front looks a bit like my house.

I always buy from here the cards are beautiful x

Sprig1 · 10/11/2021 09:48

Have you tried looking in charity shops? They often have their own range of cards.

Yes, sorry if that wasn't clear from my initial post

I get them from Etsy. I follow a lot of artists' shops and most do packs of cards. It does work out more expensive but I don't send many so I'm OK with that, plus I like to support small businesses where I can.

TheDuchessOfMN · 10/11/2021 09:57

Lidl sell absolutely beautiful individual Christmas cards. I’m not sure if they’re in store yet, I usually buy them in December

Lots of choice and 3 for 2 at the moment (go go go)

Mythroatisstillsore · 10/11/2021 10:01

Always buy from one of two cancer/hospice charities on line. I want the proceeds to go directly to them.
