Christmas cards.... is it just me?

I still send Christmas cards mainly because I've moved around a lot and it's one way of keeping in touch with people albeit annually (especially those who don't use social media). So a 'just don't bother sending' response is not what I am after here.

I try to buy from local charity shops but not averse to supermarkets' own and have often found WH Smiths and Next to have great cards. But I've not found any I've particularly liked this year (am in England).

I have also checked John Lewis and TKMaxx. I do make some cards but can't do homemade for everyone.

The only cards I've found this year that I like have been in the Card Factory, so this is not a snobby request at all, they are way cheaper and nicer than others I've seen. I can go back there and buy more of the same I guess but before I do ....

I appreciate it's a matter of personal preference, am not questioning anyone else's taste. So if you recognise what I'm saying, I.e. also struggling this year with cards, if you have found cards you are happy with, please send links.

My December is heavily committed with not particularly pleasant things so need to get the basics sorted ASAP. Thank you .

@Mythroatisstillsore

Always buy from one of two cancer/hospice charities on line. I want the proceeds to go directly to them.
I usually get most of my cards from local charity shops, first place I looked, but just not seeing any I like this year.

A PP said to choose the charity you want to support and not worry about the cards. If I'm going to spend a lot of money on cards/postage, I'd rather they were cards I liked. I support lots of charities all year round through direct debit so if I end up not buying cards for my favourite charities am not going to worry about that too much .

Jdrf (charity for kids with type 1 diabetes) have some nice ones. I think they are nice anyway! 🤣

LittleLottieChaos · 10/11/2021 13:12

I bought charity cards from Card Factory… I actually think they’re lovely and not expensive. (Link below) Win win.

I also bought some special cards from Etsy, so supporting ‘small business’ too.

Of all the links I bought the ones from MIND in the end shop.mind.org.uk/collections/christmas-cards-and-calendars

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/11/2021 13:53

@LittleLottieChaos I have also bought some charity cards from the Card Factory.
I am going to look at the shop selling cards from multiple charities in a local library when it opens next week I think, and if not might buy more of the same from the CF as I like them more than anything else I've seen so far. Appreciate that perhaps not so much goes to the charities from there but as you say they are cheap (yet decent quality), so will work out how much more I would have spent elsewhere and buy extra for the food bank to ease my conscience. Can't spend much more time looking!

Another vote for Whistelfish. Manufacture in UK too.

They always do excellent sales after Christmas for regular cards and if you order enough (20 I think - I try and order all the cards I'll need for the year ahead) they work out o 80p each or something daft plus delivery is free.

www.hallmarkcollections.co.uk/collections/christmas-boxed-cards Enter code BOX20 at checkout to get 20% off. Free shipping, too. Bought my wrapping paper and cards from here.

OldGreyBoots · 10/11/2021 15:00

This year our cards have come from British Heart Foundation, and The Works Smile

campion · 10/11/2021 15:03

I get mine from here

www.cardsforcharity.co.uk/

Excellent and varied range and very prompt delivery

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/11/2021 15:15

I like corny ones, so bought 30 of these from the Dogs’ Trust.

And 3 different packs of less corny ones from the RNLI, one of which is here:

I support amnesty international so look there - love these

www.amnestyshop.org.uk/products/amnesty-international/amnesty-international-festive-cards---moon---stars---pack-of-10/

But usually donate £30 ish to young minds or child growth foundation instead of cards

ADreadedSunnyDay · 10/11/2021 15:23

Waterstones have some lovely cards OP. I was in there on Sat.

cowburp · 10/11/2021 16:08

If you can get to a church with a little shop they usually sell nativity based cards

Scout2016 · 10/11/2021 19:17

@RockingMyFiftiesNot I like the V&A museum ones. Not a charity but equally not ethically bankrupt like some retail is

ThePlantsitter · 10/11/2021 19:21

Yes I always look at the museums and gallery shops. V&A, British Museum, Tate, national gallery etc. Not cheap though.

Scout2016 · 10/11/2021 19:21

I've taken a chance on the Private Eye ones this year, but of a gamble as can't see fully in listing photo but I am in a rut so giving it a go.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 10/11/2021 21:18

I know what you mean!
I've just ordered a few packs from here:

evtheria · 10/11/2021 22:15

I appreciate a good card Smile Saw some lovely ones in our art museum other week, and my favourite multipack this year was from local Barnado’s

colourful, vintage/retro, sometimes odd: choosingkeeping.com/collections/christmas-cards2021
a card that is a booklet of poems, found in an indie bookshop:
www.candlestickpress.co.uk/
(I bought Christmas Presents, and Christmas Lights)

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 13/11/2021 13:18

Now sorted thanks to a pop up shop in a local library which stocks cards in a wide range of styles and charities, all the money goes to the charities so even better .

To be honest, still didn't see as many that I liked as in other years but am glad to have that task out of the way.

Thanks for al your suggestions, appreciated, and hopefully they will help others too

Bit late to this thread but there are some beautiful cards here from an independent seller on Etsy, her work is so gorgeous and she's a U.K. seller.
I've bought her cards before and she's got a lovely new set for this Christmas.
