Hi, sorry if this has been done already but I need some ideas for xmas day dessert that isn't Xmas pudding please as no-one is that fussed by it.

What's everyone else having?

Chocolate Banoffi Pie is demanded by the kids. I like Lemon Fridge Cake myself.

Sunshineandflipflops · 09/11/2021 15:53

@Leftbutcameback

Bread and butter pudding made with brioche and chocolate chips. And some Baileys in the custard.
I've done similar before @Leftbutcameback using Terry's chocolate orange and brioche. It was really nice.

My mother used to make the best ever Christmas cake, and also do an apple pie.

Hairwizard · 09/11/2021 16:11

In the freezer:
Apple strudel
1 small and 1 larger choc mousse gateau
3 different vienettas
I will buy when nearer time a nice yule log
Bought a a panettone to try jamies recipe.
Usually do a trifle
They wont all be used on christmas day, might be doing a buffet type thing on christmas eve as looks like everyone doing their own thing on the day then coming to us for dinner on boxing day.then whatevers left we will use on ny day.
I like to get the gps and aunt/uncles round in afternoon on christmas eve as otherwise they would land round after the mass service in the evening when i dont want visitors . (4 dc to get sorted. )

I've seen an Aldi chocolate bombe and after dinner mint bar that I like the look of.

Leftbutcameback · 09/11/2021 16:14

@Sunshineandflipflops that’s a cracking idea! We all love Terry’s chocolate orange

Hodl · 09/11/2021 16:15

Tarte tatin
Chocolate cheesecake

No one likes Christmas pudding here!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/11/2021 16:19

We have a trifle and a lemon meringue roulade every single year. I use the egg whites in the meringue and the egg yolks to make the custard for the trifle (plus more eggs to make the lemon curd) Then we have the obligatory chocolates - Celebrations/After Eights/Ferrero Rocher/Lindt Balls

Is it any wonder I put on half a stone over Christmas!!

Tinkletinkletree · 09/11/2021 16:23

Mulled wine poached pears with boozy cream for us. They go nicely on a pavlova too and can be made in advance.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 09/11/2021 16:25

We don’t actually have pudding after Christmas dinner. It’s such a big meal and we like to leave it at that. Then we bring out a cheese board later in the evening along with whatever pudding we’re having. Sometimes we do a mandarin trifle, other times we’ve had pavlova, this year I think I’m going to do muscat prunes with cream, possibly with a slice of warm gingerbread.

Leftbutcameback · 09/11/2021 16:33

Without wanting to derail the thread - anyone have some non traditional Xmas main courses they have? I’m bored with roast (I don’t eat meat anyway)

floofycroissant · 09/11/2021 17:12

Lego you can do spiced or caramel apple topping. Or mullet wine pears work well on a pavlova

hellcatspangle · 09/11/2021 17:16

I often make a chocolate roulade, it's quite light so goes down well after a big dinner and can be made in advance. Plenty of recipes online - I put fresh cream in mine so it's not sickly.

NeedsCharging · 09/11/2021 17:17

I am doing Mary Berry's Lemon tart. It is so easy (buy pre made pastry) and is better if made the day before and put in the fridge.

It's really light especially after a heavy dinner.

Does anyone have a good mint chocolate dessert recipe?

languagelover96 · 09/11/2021 17:49

Fruit cake
After eights

TreaslakeandBack · 09/11/2021 17:57

Christmas pudding ice cream
I use this recipe but use Green and Black’s chocolate ice cream.

Nigella's smoked sea salt chocolate tart.

MintyCedric · 09/11/2021 18:23

Toffee apple crumble (really easy, peeled and chopped granny smiths, chuck in a jar of dulce du lecherous and topped with crumble with added oats, flaked almonds an cinnamon)

Something chocolate orangey

Mince pie shortbread as a traditional option

Hairwizard · 09/11/2021 18:32

Forgot i have a christmas pud stashed and have made my 1st ever christmas cake. Due its second feeding on friday. It better fucking taste good lol.

Planning on making mince pies then we have the usual tins of chocs to nibble on.

BeyondMyWits · 09/11/2021 18:37

M&S frozen lemon roulade. In the freezer ready. Light and lemony and takes up little space in the freezer. Have personally got enough to do at Christmas without making more stuff.

Grasshopper cake? I love those.

Hang on...

Christmas101 · 09/11/2021 20:39

www.thelonebaker.com/journal/2014/10/16/half-a-grasshopper-pie.html

With after eights arranged on top sticking out of the cream in little triangles. Yum.

Christmas101 · 09/11/2021 20:41

I have a bundt cake tin and a load of glitter and santas and reindeer and I am going to do a sticky toffee pudding, drizzle it with sauce and then throw shiny things at it until it gives in and starts looking like a wreath.
