Help! 9yr old wants a toy airport

Ds has always enjoyed playing with buses & airplanes

Recently he's started to collect model and the pull back toy planes from airlines which are easy to pick up on eBay/amazon/model shops

For Christmas he's written his list and he's asked for an airport to use with his airplanes

All the ones I can find are aimed at pre school children or made out at paper for model collectors

Can anyone help? It's probably his last year believing in Santa so I would love to find the right thing for him, ideally no more than £50

Is the Playmobil one no good?

ihearttc · 07/11/2021 17:21

My DS was also obsessed with planes. I randomly saw an airport and control tower in the model section of Hamleys last week. I briefly thought about buying it but he’s 11 and I don’t think it’d get used for much longer. It might be on their website.

He had the playmobil one a few years ago but he says it's for younger kids

He seems convinced that Santa will be able to sort it out 🤦‍♀️

This are the airplanes he collects if it helps

Playmobil was my first thought too, though not sure if it would the right sort of size for the planes he has: www.playmobil.co.uk/airport-with-control-tower/5338.html

I saw that one but it's only the paper mat, paper wouldn't last as we would be pushing the planes along the runway

That ones for adults who collect airplanes to use for displays

That shop is amazing though so thanks for the link, I've just ordered him the airforce one set on there

Ahh yes didn’t think of that. The one in Hamleys was definitely solid if that makes sense. I shall keep looking.

TheBitterBoy · 07/11/2021 17:32

What does he mean by he wants an airport? On etsy there are airport playmats that don't look too babyish here, or runway tape here

Or if its accessories, what about some of the sets British Airways sell?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/11/2021 17:33

Would lego base plate roads make him a suitable runway? www.lego.com/en-gb/product/road-plates-60304

superstar84 · 07/11/2021 17:37

I think he means he wants some sort of terminal and a runway but I'm not 100%

At the moment he just uses the fire place and today said he wanted to write his Santa list as he knew what he would like

That runway tape looks good but we wouldn't have the right floor for it as it's carpet in the living room

He's probably wanting something in between the toys that say 3+ and the paper models with terminals as he couldn't play with them

If you bought a big piece of grey vinyl and the tape you could make one which could be rolled up easily?

It’s from the US but there are loads on here…sure there must be some U.K. stock somewhere

herecomesthsun · 07/11/2021 17:49

I think it is the one that my DS had great fun helping a friend build; it looked great.

Aposterhasnoname · 07/11/2021 17:51

Has to be collected though. There’s a few different sets on eBay

He is 9 years old

He likes the proper models and also the pull back toy planes from airlines

I think I'd start trawling Facebook to see if anyone local makes dolls house, etc... I'm sure they'd be able to make you a wooden airport. Maybe speak to a local model shop, there's bound to be enthusiasts who've made something similar for their own displays.

That looks just the think but unfortunately it's too far away from us

I have messaged the seller though to see if they can remember where they bought it from so Thankyou
