Hi , my teen is after some air pods for Xmas
Are the Apple ones really worth the money ?
The latest ones are £239

They are great but easy to lose. How about the £119 version?

Nearlyadoctor · 07/11/2021 08:37

My Dd 14 had some for her birthday in June and uses them everyday on the bus to school listening to music etc.
I bought a pair this week as have recently signed up to Audible and have to say I think they’re brilliant. Having researched it though the 2nd generation ones are absolutely fine, certainly no need for the latest model. They wireless charge in the case with 5 hours battery time ( the newer version have 6).
They were £119 direct from Apple with personalised engraving on the case.
Hope this helps.

Trixiebell06 · 07/11/2021 14:30

Thankyou so much for your replies I just can’t justify £239 it’s a lot of money that could be spent else where . I think it’ll be the £119 my dd seems to think that the latest ones are the best as they block out back ground noise

Would you know if the air pods third generation fit teens ears well ?

I have both versions and the latest ones are not really worth the extra money. In fact a sales person in the Apple store told my daughter exactly that. Get her the cheaper ones, she'll still love them.

That's the Pro version rather than just the ordinary AirPods version.

Eltonsglasses · 07/11/2021 14:44

I have them and I love them. I can't say whether they are worth the money though as I have never compared them to cheaper brands.

Trixiebell06 · 07/11/2021 14:55

Thankyou , has anyone bought apple products from BT ? They are cheaper but is there a difference ?

I have the pro AirPods and they are well worth the extra money for blocking out background noise. The previous ones I couldn't hear when in traffic or outside for example and had to the rude turn them up quite loud which concerned me for the impact on hearing. They were also annoying for going to the gum where they played their own (shit) music and I couldn't hear mine.

Definitely get the noise cancelling ones. They are amazing.

If you go to an Apple store you can try both and see the difference. It's very obvious even when there's no music playing.

gildalily · 07/11/2021 15:01

I have a brand new pair of Apple air pods that I was going to put on eBay. If you're interested PM me OP and I can show pictures etc

gildalily · 07/11/2021 15:02

They're the normal priced ones though, not the £239 ones

RedHot22 · 07/11/2021 15:04

I got some AirPod Pros and have since bought them for DH and 2 x DCs. I love them and use them daily

sashagabadon · 07/11/2021 15:05

I would say for a teen using walking to school, getting in the bus it’s best not to block out all background noise. Background noise is actually useful when crossing road etc hearing traffic, friends calling you.

slalomsuki · 07/11/2021 15:05

But then from John Lewis as you get an additional years warranty with them which has come in useful as 2 different sets have stopped working after 18 months.

Jonesy88 · 07/11/2021 15:05

I have the ones that cancel out background noise and they’re very effective. Perhaps too effective if your DD plans on using them to walk to school etc? She would really struggle to hear cars or frankly people coming up closer than you would like.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 07/11/2021 15:07

I wouldn’t want my teen wearing the noise cancelling ones out and about though. Too dangerous in traffic. I would think that the cheaper ones were safer.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 07/11/2021 15:08

Cross post with PP.

soberfabulous · 07/11/2021 15:08

I absolutely loved mine for the first year and then they started disconnecting from my phone and laptop, an absolute nightmare. Also a massive pain when running as I would have no music.

Took them back to Apple and they said buy the newest model 😬😬😬

I went and bought a cheaper pair of no brand wireless ones and they've worked amazingly.

Eltonsglasses · 07/11/2021 15:09

I just taught mine to wear them on transparency when out and about, so they could be aware of what's going on around them.

RedHot22 · 07/11/2021 15:09

You don’t have to have them set to noise cancelling! It’s useful at times though

Trixiebell06 · 07/11/2021 15:09

That’s a very good point jonesy88 , it’s such a hard decision🤔

I recently got the Pros as the normal ones kept slipping out of my ears. Annoyingly even the smallest buds in the box do the same. I can only keep them in by using surgical tape across my ears. Something to bear in mind if your DD has small ears like me!

I like the noise cancellation on them but it’s not wise if you’re using them in the street as a teen probably would. I only use mine in the house or at the gym.

TBF I got both pairs of mine free with a phone contract as I wouldn’t have spent the money on them. The £30 ones I had actually stayed in my ear and the sound wasn’t all that different.

Trixiebell06 · 07/11/2021 15:36

Thanks autumnisthebest ,I’ve got a feeling that they will slip out of her ears which will be annoying
I think we will go into the apple shop and have a look

I opted for the more expensive ones in June for DS birthday. The usual airpods (wireless of the free version you get with a phone type) wouldn’t stay in his ears. We opted for the pros as they come with different sized rubbery bits to fit.

Keep an eye on Black Friday deals. I bought from John Lewis in June and got the pros with a free google alexa equivalent thing for £189.

spurs4ever · 07/11/2021 15:40

I recently bought this for my son. They're allegedly refurbished but arrived in mint condition in a brand new sealed box.
