Hello,

For anyone that has a hotel Chocolat velvetiser, are they worth the money? Smile

If so, anyone with a good discount code on them? Grin

If I've already got a Nespresso aeroccino, do I need one of these? Could I use my aeroccino with the hot chocolate from Hotel Chocolate?

DancingQueen85 · 23/10/2021 20:23

I got my husband one last Christmas. He absolutely loves it and it makes a bloody good hot chocolate

SoupDragon · 23/10/2021 20:57

I microwave my drink briefly whilst I'm rinsing the machine out.

Hazel444 · 23/10/2021 21:09

I think they are great and worth the money as we use it a lot, but I have to say I am on my third one in just over a year - the first one was faulty out of the box and the second one developed a power fault a couple of months ago. Replaced my Hotel Chocolate both times with no issue though, so if you do get one make sure you activate the warranty.

Just popping on to say I was a dissenter a few days ago, saying it didn’t get the drink hot enough for me. I tried the tip today it warming my mug with boiling water while I waited and it’s made an enormous difference so thank you to all who recommended it. Much much more to my liking now

Parkmama · 25/10/2021 23:22

Do you have to use the velvetiser to enjoy the HC hot chocolate sachets? I wanted to buy some as Christmas gifts . . .

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 26/10/2021 06:35

I’m getting one for Christmas and am very excited 😆

Can I use normal hot chocolate powder as well as the HC sachets?

SoupDragon · 26/10/2021 07:33

Absolutely. In the course of testing it, I've used Sainsbury's hot chocolate powder, Horlicks, Ovaltine, Biscoff spread, vanilla bean paste.... it does a fine job with all of them.

I would say no. The contents of the sachets look no different to other premium "chocolate flakes" types of drink and you don't need a Velvetiser for those. Hot milk and a small whisk would work.
Rainbowshit · 26/10/2021 14:44

We absolutely love ours. I was a bit worried it would be too cold for me as I like my drinks really hot, but it's fine for me. I sometimes our boiling water into the mug to warm it through first, but it's not really necessary.

I bought a refurbed model off eBay for £69.99
You wouldn't tell it was refurbed. It looks brandnew. Comes in all the packaging.
Tested it once and was impressed with how quickly it does it!

Franticbutterfly · 26/10/2021 20:45

We have one. I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/10/2021 20:51

Yes ! I got to try one as part of the recent trial and I bloody love it. As do teenage daughters, and even DH.
Am thinking of getting one for my best friend.

buckeejit · 26/10/2021 20:56

Yes - bought a few years ago on a whim for dh just so the family would have something gadgety to play with. Used all the time BUT

I do not recommend Pendragon. Loads of folk on here rec'd them so I bulk bought a lot. Sadly it's a mix of chocolate & sugar. To sweet & not as good as HC. Will have to grate my own but Charbonnel & Walker is a delicious alternative to HC

GoodnightGrandma · 26/10/2021 20:57

My DD loves hers, it was a big hit last Xmas.

Abraxan · 26/10/2021 21:02

Dd has one. It was a gift before she went to university. Her and her flat mates love it! It makes lovely hot chocolate.

Whammy · 01/11/2021 01:02

If you want something cheaper - this makes the most delicious hot chocolates (although you have to heat your milk first): www.chocolate.co.uk/products/hot-chocolate-shaker-new?variant=33008162570283

YerAWizardHarry · 01/11/2021 01:08

@winteranimal you aren’t meant to put anything other than milk in the aeroccino

Blueberry40 · 01/11/2021 03:29

I haven’t been that impressed, especially considering how expensive it was. The hot chocolate doesn’t froth at all, isn’t as hot as I like it and to be honest I have had much better hot chocolates just using a milk frother which cost about £5. Very disappointed with it!

toffeeshock · 01/11/2021 12:37

I’d love one but I don’t think it’d make it hot enough for me. I like a really hot cup of hot chocolate which I drink in my evening bath - I don’t want to have to drink it straight away.

I microwave mine whilst I'm cleaning the Velvetiser. It's not ideal but it sorts the problem.
Ponoka7 · 01/11/2021 14:05

@Elphaba17

"Could you heat the milk a little in the microwave first before adding it to the velvetiser? "

No because it works by being at a certain temperature. You have to heat it afterwards.
I gently keep two lots hot in a pan then add Bailey's, so me and my DD can have a drink together. The flavoured syrups sold in TKMaxx are nice in them as well. We love ours.

I have just been drinking the Mince Pie flavour…. Mmmm. Perfect for a chilly day. Have bought one for my friend , was to be for Christmas but she is having a really difficult time so I am sending it now.

I'd been looking for the Mince Pie one for weeks, since I saw it advertised on facebook; and managed to get it last week. I'm saving it until nearer Christmas.
SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2021 13:25

My dd was horrified that I was drinking a mince pie flavour before December… is v delicious though.
