Hello,

For anyone that has a hotel Chocolat velvetiser, are they worth the money? Smile

If so, anyone with a good discount code on them? Grin

I put boiling water into my cup to warm it. I think it’s a great product.

Eeeeeps · 22/10/2021 21:59

I absolutely love mine! It’s a luxury but really worth it IMO

Katkinsgreyy · 22/10/2021 22:31

Got one last year and use it all the time!

I sometimes blitz up a chocolate bar and turn it in to hot chocolate.

TheEvilPea · 22/10/2021 23:02

It's brilliant! We use it a lot in winter.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/10/2021 01:24

They had one on QVC last Friday as the Todays Special Value , price was really good (but their P&P is hefty)

I went into Knoops last week for hot chocolate ( about £10 for two drinks ) nice as a treat but not something I'd drink often.

I have a metal jug/saucepan and a rechargeable whisk . I use soya milk which is sweet anyway . Need to get some more powder but I might just buy chocolate and blitz in the food processor

Love ours. Had it a year. I use it daily for frothing milk and probably a couple of times a week for hot chocolate (currently making that with the Tesco Finest powder).

ShaunaTheSheep · 23/10/2021 04:56

Ours was a gift last Christmas.
I use it everyday for frothy coffee.
The DC have Green & Blacks for everyday drinking, and HC for treats.

Mintyt · 23/10/2021 08:02

If you go into the store and say online there is £20 off with the code mentioned above the give you 20 off too. I'm getting one at payday for a gift, in the store there are 3 colours, a rose gold, white and the grey

MsMiaWallace · 23/10/2021 08:28

Got mine for Christmas last year. Like you I was not sure as v expensive but DH got me one.
Honestly it is a luxury but so nice!
I have the HC sachets for me but I buy cheap hot choc for the kids & it still tastes stunning.
Also I put boiling water in my cup whilst it is working to warm the cup up & the hot choc stays hot.

Okbutnotgreat · 23/10/2021 08:57

I had my first HC hot chocolate whilst out shopping yesterday having seen the threads about the Velvetiser.
I had a Milky with the whipped bit on top and can honestly say I was sadly underwhelmed. I mean it was ok but nothing incredible just a lukewarm chocolate drink and the whippet thing on top was too rich for me and made me feel a bit sick.
I think I actually prefer a hot chocolate drink from Cafe Nero or Costa with plain cream on top.
It all just felt a bit Emperor’s new clothes and I’m really disappointedGrin

Monkeybumbum7 · 23/10/2021 09:11

What are the cheaper alternatives and can you use oat milk?

NavigatingAdolescence · 23/10/2021 09:19

Oat milk is fine in the velvetiser

Polkadotties · 23/10/2021 09:22

I’ve got a smeg one. It’s more expensive but has more settings and you can do hot or cold drinks. I’ve used it to make cocktails 😂

LlamaofDrama · 23/10/2021 09:29

I had a Lavazza A Modo Mio frother that I also used to make hot chocolate (the Knoops chocolate by mail order is fab if you can't get to one of their cafes). It's recently died after about 15 years of more or less daily use and I'm looking for a replacement. Only complaint about the Lavazza is that it's 180ml capacity which seems a bit mean! But add the frothed hot chocolate to an espresso and it makes a great mocha

middleager · 23/10/2021 09:30

I love mine. Like the Hotel Chocolat sachets as a treat, but a cheaper alternative that we use are the Pendragon hot chocolates (as recommended by MN)

I actually prefer mine made with oat milk. I use Oatly sometimes and it seems to taste even creamier.
middleager · 23/10/2021 09:33

Just to add, I usually microwave my drink for 20 seconds afterwards as I like my drinks piping hot.

SoupDragon · 23/10/2021 09:41

You can use cheap hot drink powder. It does a fine job of making fuss free Horlicks for example.

Or (as I say on all these threads) use Biscoff spread or Nutella.

I think the ones that have an option for cold drinks would be better value.

florentina1 · 23/10/2021 09:47

It does make good chocolate and coffee and is easy to use and clean. Ours was bought as a gift. It is fine for coffee but the chocolate is very expensive.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/10/2021 09:50

DS loves his. It is pricey, and there are much cheaper versions that will give the same results. Nice for a gift though if aesthetics/brand name etc. likely to be appreciated.

Sn0tnose · 23/10/2021 11:42

I like hot chocolate properly hot. Does it do that? No but it’s designed not to, so that the chocolate doesn’t get burned. We put hot water into the cups to warm them first and it makes all the difference.

I’m not keen on the Hotel Chocolat drinking sachets, they’re too rich for me. So DH has them and I pour my milk over cheaper drinking powder. I love ours. I was worried it would be another gadget that gets forgotten about, but we use it quite often and I definitely don’t regret buying it. When this one eventually dies though, I’d get a brand that does cold milk too, as I do love a milkshake.

GobletofFiyah · 23/10/2021 12:30

I love it. I got mine for £20 on eBay

sueelleker · 23/10/2021 18:53

@middleager

You can press the button again after it's finished, which gives you another 30 seconds or so of heat.
Elphaba17 · 23/10/2021 19:40

Could you heat the milk a little in the microwave first before adding it to the velvetiser? I would like one for making both hot chocolates and cappuccinos but like.my coffee to be quite hot

Itsnotdeep · 23/10/2021 19:45

I bought one for my teen son last Christmas (there was a 20% discount code floating around) - it was really successful present with him and all my children tbh.

I like the hotel chocolat hot chocolate, but they use any old stuff.

I recently burned through the cable, and they just sent me a new one free of charge.
