Playmobile?

Cindi85 · 18/10/2021 16:44

I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old. I'm thinking of getting them a Playmobile set each, possibly preceeded by a Playmobile advent calendar each ( the Royal tea party one looks right up my daughter's Street!) And they are buy one get one half price ATM.

Anyway, wanted opinions as, while my son doesn't have many toys like this, dd has a Barbie dreamhouse with Barbies, a Hatchimals play set and LOL dolls and is also in to Lego Friends and is getting her 3rd set from her Nan. Would a Playmobil set be too similar to these toys she already has? Any opinions on Playmobil and how much play they get? Thanks!

Go with Lego - expandable, interchangeable and has a VERY long lifespan!

My children still love playmobil at 5 and 7 and I would say we have a couple more years of play for the eldest.

They prefer the vehicles and people to the buildings/police stations etc. The latter get made imaginatively around the house from sofas/under armchairs etc....

PinkWaferBiscuit · 18/10/2021 17:26

Your children are the perfect age for playmobil. It's such a versatile toy that encourages imaginative play so definitely worthwhile having a few sets.

Cupcakegirl13 · 18/10/2021 17:33

We have the police station and the castle and neither of them stay together the minute DS plays with them they come apart and it’s very frustrating all round.
The dinosaur stuff is good.

hellosunshineagainx · 18/10/2021 17:37

Personally I think expand lego as it can all be played with together then

Twizbe · 18/10/2021 17:46

I loved playmobile as a child. My parents kept it all and my children have started playing with it now. They love it to.

We've got my son (5 in Jan) a playmobile bus and bus stop. He's going to love it

AndWhat · 18/10/2021 17:55

My 8 year old still plays with playmobil daily, we love it in our house!
Where are the advent calendars BOGOF? Thanks

Bananasareyellow · 18/10/2021 17:56

My son is 9 and he still really loves playmobil. We have a zoo and camping set and my mum and dad bought him the scooby doo van during lockdown. He likes setting them up and making little scenes. He mixes other toys in with them (e.g. Mewtwo is at the zoo right now). They seem to hold their value if you want to sell them on when they're finished with them. They've been doing Greeks at school and he's asked for playmobil Hercules for Christmas! Hmm

We have three sets (one or two were second hand) of this water play/summer fun stuff. A camper van also gets a lot of use.

It doesn't come out very often nowadays (mine are 7 and 9) but we've certainly got our money's worth .

(I think mine were 3 and 5 when we started buying it, BTW)

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 18/10/2021 18:03

It’s great for those ages. They play quite differently with it to the way they play with lego so you could consider playmobile for one, lego for the other.

PinkDaydreams · 18/10/2021 18:05

Can I also ask where the advent calendars are buy one get one free please?! Grin

My nearly 4 year old loves Playmobil but isn't into Lego at all. When younger he wasn't into mega blocks or Duplo either.

LooksBetterWithAFaceMask · 18/10/2021 18:08

We have loads of playmobil your dc are a great age for it.
My two older ones are too old for it now (allegedly) ds2 is 11 and hasn’t grown his collection any in the last year or two but still plays with it and when his brothers 15 year old friends come over they are also seen playing with it…for the kid of course.

Cindi85 · 18/10/2021 18:47

Thanks for everyone's input. It's really annoying me that I spelt it wrong!

Playmobil is an excellent toy, much better for small world play than lego at that age.

The camper van and swimming pool where very popular with my dc, but there are loads of sets.

CarbonMonoxideParty · 18/10/2021 18:54

Playmobil is ssoooooo much better but I guess it depends on your kids.

We've got loads. My youngest who is getting closer to 9 still plays with it.
Loads of mileage

Lego sets have hair gathered dust and so many bits that will kill your feet. Playmobil has bits but they aren't so razor blade like.

CarbonMonoxideParty · 18/10/2021 18:56

The children's hospital is fab.

SpamIAm · 18/10/2021 18:56

Never mind the kids, I want all the Playmobil 😂 there are lots of fairground rides that have lights - they're amazing! We have a Ferris wheel.

We've got loads of Playmobil and it's played with a lot. We've got the Ghostbusters firehouse and car which the kids love. The Noah's ark is also great and comes with loads of animals. They also have a caravan which is well loved and you can buy a car to pull it. We've also got a little Playmobil camping set that they play with alongside the caravan.

I've just bought the pirate ship and treasure island for my almost 4 year old's next birthday which looks really amazing. He plays with both Lego and Playmobil but the Playmobil is definitely the most popular of the two at the moment, and has been for the past few years.

EcoCustard · 18/10/2021 19:41

Ds6 & dd5 love Playmobil and it is played with all the time. They have the City Hospital, police station, farm, & pony farm. Dd4 got the safari for her 3rd birthday but barely plays with it. Lego friends has never gone down well and other Lego sets (not all) have received a lukewarm response.

I prefer Playmobil, we have days of play with it and they get so absorbed in it. I would the Pyramid set and the new Ayuma set looks lovely.

reluctantbrit · 18/10/2021 20:38

For that age Lego is far too fiddly. We had Playmobil for ages before DD became interested in Lego.
