Playmobile?

I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old. I'm thinking of getting them a Playmobile set each, possibly preceeded by a Playmobile advent calendar each ( the Royal tea party one looks right up my daughter's Street!) And they are buy one get one half price ATM.

Anyway, wanted opinions as, while my son doesn't have many toys like this, dd has a Barbie dreamhouse with Barbies, a Hatchimals play set and LOL dolls and is also in to Lego Friends and is getting her 3rd set from her Nan. Would a Playmobil set be too similar to these toys she already has? Any opinions on Playmobil and how much play they get? Thanks!

@EcoCustard I here you on the Ayuma range, younger me would've loved it but now I'm living the playmobil dream through GD.

I'd go with playmobil, they'll both have years of fun from it. Our daughter has bought gd (5 1/2) a couple of next step up lego sets for christmas to test the water, the big tub of assorted lego and a couple of small lego friends sets. She'll need assistance with building the themed ones, and again when they fall to bits during play, let's see how it goes. Whereas playmobil, you can't go wrong, it's grown with her and as she's got older her play is more detailed.

Oh, and if you do get a big playmobil set they can take a while to put together, so you may want the dc to help, or you may want to assemble the night before, a couple of sets made me want to reach for a glass of wine at the end and I'm not a big drinker.

Big fans of playmobil in this house. DS1 is pirate mad and he has had the 1.2.3 pirate ships right through to their very large ones. He will be 4.5 at Christmas and is getting more playmobil, he plays with it everyday.

DS2 will be 1 next month and we already have him some 1.2.3 stuff. Love it!

We are also big Playmobil fans in this house (DDs are 4 and 2.) Personally I find it far better for imaginative play than lego and think they'll get more into lego in a few years (but I may be wrong as they're also getting lego classic bricks for Christmas!) We have the dinosaur Playmobil, zoo, and campervan which are all played with well. I'm buying them the carry along doll's house for Christmas. The only problem is I need a decent storage solution for it all!

I have a 20yo (very nearly 21) who is still in love with his old Playmobil. We must about £2k of vintage sets, think all the pirate ships, airplane, coach, rally sets, bin lorry, fire engines, police cars etc) upstairs and he will NOT let any of it go.
Playmobil has given him literally years of play and it's virtually indestructible.

Playmobil is great! I had a Victorian dolls house when I was 4, still played with it at age 12. Now my 4 year old plays with it (although the plastic has gone a bit brittle with age so some of the chairs have legs missing and so on). Its great stuff.

Thanks so much for the input everyone.

I have ordered the advent calenders and a dinosaur volcano set for ds3. I am on the lookout for a good set for dd5. She loves Lego Friends and plays with her sets a lot but as MIL is getting her a 3rd for Xmas, I wanted to get something different. Sounds like this will be a good shout. I like the look of the fairy unicorn set but might go for one of your recommendations, will keep browsing.
