is here!!! Had a little trip to get my copy! Bought some chipolatas for the pigs in blankets and molasses for the cake. Exciting!

Seems there's a fair number of Booths / Aldi partnerships going on!

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2021 13:49

@AlfonsoTheDinosaur

I have downloaded the catalogue so that I can look at it (and drool) at my leisure. It was lovely to see Booth employees as models.
My daughter was pleased that Carol from Burscough made the cut again this year! Xmas Grin
MyrealnameisBernard · 16/10/2021 13:56

Ooh I'm very very close to one. Didn't go a lot of late due to rude checkout person but I'll put it down to stress and get over myself if he book is out!!

DJSteves · 16/10/2021 14:00

I'm gutted the one at Media City shut down. Was always in there after work

DeJaDont · 16/10/2021 14:20

@NigelSlatersXmasTaters

"You don’t even have to change carpark!"

You know you're winning when you've got Booths and Aldi sharing the car park.

I mentioned in the OP that I bought molasses for the cake, I've just looked out of interest and it was 5p cheaper than Asda. And it isn't stocked at Aldi at all in any form.

Also got a chocolate orange which was the standard quid Grin.

The meat was more expensive than at Aldi because it is much better quality and is locally sourced.

Burscough retail park. Aldi, booths AND B&M!
RedPandaFluff · 16/10/2021 15:09

Oh dear . . . didn't expect the sneery responses. I didn't say Aldi is the same as Booths. I said you could get some identical things in Booths and Aldi, except in Aldi they cost far less.

Here's an example - I remember buying this prosciutto in Booths for about £4 on my way home from work, and then finding the exact same thing in Aldi for half the price (screenshot). It happened a few times. Funnily enough, when I googled this, I saw Waitrose and Sainsburys stock the exact same product, except they charge more.

I'm not saying Booths isn't nice, I just don't remember it being THAT great. Clearly I stand corrected and I'll get back in my box Grin

Nobody was sneery, @RedPandaFluff, we just explained why we didn't agree with you and what makes it exceptional in our eyes. Feel free to disagree, but it's unsurprising that people aren't in agreement on a thread actively praising Booths.

hennaoj · 16/10/2021 16:09

@Tiredmum100

I've never heard or seen a Booths in real life, only on here. Is it an English thing? (I'm in wales).
Booths is the Waitrose of the North.
gogohm · 16/10/2021 16:23

@RedPandaFluff

I thought the same thing to be honest. I was on holiday where there was a booths this summer and thought I'd try it out as I'd heard so much about it but it was very expensive, higher that Waitrose even and quality was no different from other supermarkets - I prefer Morrison's here (or did, not sure with new foreign owners!) lidl is my closest supermarket and if they sell the product it is usually good but I will do a Christmas shop at Morrison's

KitchenKrisis · 17/10/2021 06:57

Booth's Xmas love is a tradition on here, I love it via mn having never had the pleasure of being in one nor brought a single thing.
I have also loved the on line book and even had it delivered one year.

I don't want my usual little festive forray into these cosy upper echelons of shopping sullied by talk of aldi) Confused

NiceTwin · 17/10/2021 07:07

@gogohm I'm not sure how you can say the quality is the same as other supermarkets, it really isn't.
There isn't anything across the fresh produce that would make me think, ooh, I won't bother, I can get nicer at Sainsbury's/Asda/Morrisons.
Although I don't drink, I always buy beers as gifts for family as their product range is huge and I love the way they are shelved by region.

FeltCarrot · 17/10/2021 07:16

There is a Booths about a mile from where I live, never been in, but I’m planning to now!😀😀

The whole point is that we're on the Christmas board talking specifically about the Christmas offering from Booths. We aren't discussing the value for money of a typical trolley of goods over the course of the year.

The way Booths present and market Christmas is amazing, and their produce is amazing (and priced to reflect this). I couldn't afford to do the entire thing at Booths, sadly, but I enjoy getting the bits I can afford to get, as well as the book etc. It's a part of my family's Christmas! 🎅🏻🎄

NoWordForFluffy · 17/10/2021 07:50

Too many amazings in there!

Redsquirrel5 · 17/10/2021 10:33

😢I posted on the magazine thread when the book would be out but I have hurt my back on Monday and can’t go and get it.😭
Just wondering if I can persuade DH to go. He forgot to take something out for lunch.

There are a lot more Booths than there used to be. We have one we go to regularly as it is quiet and staff are so helpful and polite and the wide aisle during this time have been great. They even changed the position of the shelving because they felt there was a bit of a bottle neck if people met someone they knew so they made it wider in case people wanted to stop😀 I was there when they were changing it around. Talk about customer service. I couldn’t afford to shop there when I had the family home but we do now there are just the two of us and you can get some bargains. I have had sirloin steak out of there and small bits of fillet I made a Teriyaki stir fry from. We make savings on other things like dishwasher tablets elsewhere. We just go about once a month as we get a veggie box and have a very good family butcher.

Glad to hear people are enjoying it.

wavingwhilstdrowning · 17/10/2021 10:40

My brother lives near Booths, I am wildly jealous and once wrote to them and asked them to open in my town. They say it wasn't part of their plan but sent me a lovely hardback notebook and pen :)

Redsquirrel5 · 17/10/2021 10:54

Oh that was lovely.

He is thinking about it. We are about 25 mins from two and one hour 15 mins from another.😀
Roast dinner and Christmas Book are my expectations too much this morning? I mention the Lemon Tart too.😋 it is as good as homemade.

groundcontroltomajormum · 17/10/2021 11:33

I don't think we could ever afford to shop at booths we are also down south but it sounds fab.

Redsquirrel5 · 17/10/2021 12:26

I couldn’t afford the mortgages down south. Come north cheaper mortgages and Booths shopping oh and the scenery.
DD was at Uni in Bristol. It would be the only city I would live in in England. She loved it so much they stayed a few years but struggled to get out of student accommodation. They moved further out and then went travelling as the landlords wanted to put up their rent to £900 you could rent a lovely house in the Lakes for that.

DH is in Booths. He texted me about a tart au citron I said “ Yes, but have you got the book?” I was gutted once as they had run out of them. I had to wait a whole week to go back.

He has the book! Bless him sometimes he does still love me.🥰

groundcontroltomajormum · 17/10/2021 13:16

The Christmas book does look amazing 🤩

Redsquirrel5 · 17/10/2021 14:47

🤩👍🥰 I have it now. Have had a look through twice. DH has looked at it and we have a spare for DS1 so he doesn’t take mine.

DH has stored brownie points and he has bought a small piece of beef for tonight. Interesting as he has never roasted beef. We don’t have it often because of the cost.

headinthecloudsnow · 17/10/2021 15:46

Have just asked DH to pick one up for me too!

We couldn't afford the mortgages down south either @Redsquirrel5 so we've come back!

IggyAce · 17/10/2021 16:35

DH had a pre wedding shoot in the lakes so I tagged along and made him detour to a Booths on the way home, I now have a book. It really is a thing of beauty and yes I want to live in it and the letter at the end beautiful.
While there I brought some mince pies plus lots of other goodies. Definitely think I’ll be off to our nearest in December.

KitchenKrisis · 17/10/2021 20:26

@NoWordForFluffy

Why on earth has that post been directed at me.
I don't need to know the point I know the point, direct it at the aldi people. [t]Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 17/10/2021 20:28

I was agreeing with you...I missed that line out! 🙈🤣
