Any suggestions for a good alternative please? Needs to be online as can’t get out to the shops at the moment. Even with a discount code I’ve seen it’s too £££ for me. Thank you

Yes I think the shaker could be a good gift

Talipesmum · 12/10/2021 11:49

@bloodystupidjohnson oh good! Hope you like it! Sounds like you’ll be well sorted for materials - I remember visiting Valvona & Crolla once and was v impressed, and what a good friend to have too!
I haven’t found you have to have the choc very fine - coarse chopping would probably work. The choc drops I use are a bit over a cm diameter.

hilariousnamehere · 12/10/2021 11:54

I went for the Smeg milk frother after a lot of research, but mainly because I want to be able to use it when we launch hot choc from my family choc company and the Velvetiser felt a bit cheeky Grin

Second on my list was the Dualit a pp mentioned - it's almost exactly the same setup with magnetic whisk etc, and although it says it's not meant for hot choc I have seen people use it and it works perfectly Smile

I’ve just had email from qvc and the velvetiser is coming soon( I can pre order if I needed to)
It’s just under £90 with £4.95 p&p and is in 3 easy pay
So roughly £30 a month
Comes with a cup and 250g chocolate powder and in a choice of colours

QVC deal

Velvetiser

mogtheexcellent · 12/10/2021 15:26

I have a Lavazza milk frother. Does both hot and cold milk.

Bought from JL during Black Friday week 2 years ago. I see its £49 at John Lewis at the moment.

Classica · 12/10/2021 15:33

It's £79 including postage on the Hotel Chocolat website if you use code XMAS814

£15 cheaper than the QVC offer

bluesky · 12/10/2021 15:37

QVC is starting at £10 over the Hotel Chocolat price. And then £5 postage. So it's only saving you a fiver.

Wtf86 · 12/10/2021 15:39

Hasn’t my nespresso machine got that on the side I use it to heat milk and it makes it frothy

Classica · 12/10/2021 15:40

I'm going to look for a youtube video where some hero who's tested the Velvetiser and cheaper lookalikes can tell me definitely if there's any difference.

Classica · 12/10/2021 15:41

*definitively

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 12/10/2021 15:53

The qvc deal was better last year but I've spotted the new colour! 👀

winterescape · 12/10/2021 15:55

The QVC one comes with cups and chocolate though?

Classica · 12/10/2021 15:57

The HC one comes with two cups. So maybe they're the same price once you add the cost of the choc sachet.

Dogatetheleftovers · 12/10/2021 15:59

Do people rate the Velvetiser? We’ve got a Nespresso coffee machine with a separate milk frother but dd is desperate for a Velvetiser. Would it be much different from what we already have?

Dogatetheleftovers · 12/10/2021 16:00

Sorry Wtf86 I’ve just seen that you’ve asked a similar question! Great minds think alike!

MintyCedric · 12/10/2021 16:08

@BunnytheFriendlyDragon

I asked about Velvetisers a couple of months back on the BBC Good Food group.

I had about 150 replies and pretty much everyone really rated both the Velvetiser and the Dualit.

I'm going Dualit as I'm on a budget and from what I've read it seems a bit more versatile.

Leafy1986 · 12/10/2021 16:29

Just get a milk frother like this, they are only a couple of £ and work really well and easy to clean

No worries @Dogatetheleftovers I think might be the same thing? I guess it heats milk so would melt chocolate?

Tigerbread11 · 12/10/2021 22:33

I got one of the shakers today after reading about them on here. I'm very pleased with it. Very easy to use, very easy to clean and you can heat up to whatever temperature you like which you can't do with the velvetiser! Also a lot cheaper too.
