Any suggestions for a good alternative please? Needs to be online as can’t get out to the shops at the moment. Even with a discount code I’ve seen it’s too £££ for me. Thank you

I believe this is very similar to the velvetiser and is made by the same people (both Dualit) but about half the price. You do get some extras like cups woth the Velvetiser though.

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think?

I bought mine from QVC
Keep an eye on there as they often have good discounts, plus free easy-pay

EloiseBridgerton · 12/10/2021 07:43

Grey thank you so much

The Velvetiser should be the TSV on QVC later this week. 16th I think. While more expensive it usually comes with easy pay and also extras. Last year was cups and loads of sachets.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 12/10/2021 08:27

I got the velvetiser last October
I think it was about £85 with cups, ten hot chocs and ten coffees

I assumed that was still more than you wanted to pay given your OP but it is a good deal

fallhappy1 · 12/10/2021 08:33

I got a good deal on the velvetiser last year from QVC. Paid it in 3 installments and received 2 cups and two beautiful rose gold pots, both filled with chocolate shavings (one milk chocolate and the other salted caramel) to use to make the hot chocolate.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2021 08:35

I think that Dualit one looks better - it has a cold function.

Talipesmum · 12/10/2021 08:43

I bought this last Christmas- it does the same thing as a velvetiser but manually! It’s a hot chocolate shaker - the trick is the lid expands out when you shake the chocolate with the hot milk so it doesn’t explode.

You put chocolate bits in the bottom - I buy Belgian chocolate chips / callets, but you can break up any chocolate bar (orange twirls were nice!) or use any hot choc powder etc. Then you top up with hot milk and shake for 20 seconds, and it pours out beautifully emulsified and creamy. It’s so simple and really good - we’ve loved having hot choc all year!

Also it’s easy to make several hot chocs quickly as you just heat up a big jug of milk, then shake up one after the other. It’s about £29 which is expensive for a beaker, but there are usually 10-20% off offers. And it’s a lot cheaper than velvetisers!

I've got an electric milk frother/heater. The flask type ones from amazon which attach to a base. I bought it for making lattes but its great for hot chocolate with the hotel chocolate grated chocolate sachets or tubs.

Ostryga · 12/10/2021 08:54

I have a v cheap one - a saucepan and a whisk Grin

You can get a milk frother thing v similar to the Velvetiser from Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08YDC1QV8?pf_rd_p=6b7cc3db-e97d-4c26-9427-124d18bceb85&pd_rd_wg=y71yL&pf_rd_r=4KB2YSBYN4VBCW8E1Y47&pd_rd_i=B08YDC1QV8&pd_rd_w=LkMii&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&pd_rd_r=6d1b3e28-6202-4aa7-9ff8-23e47179b6a3

Christ that’s a horrid link. But my sister has it and rates it.

2lostsouls · 12/10/2021 09:07

WELCOME20 will get you 20% off that shaker

StarCourt · 12/10/2021 09:34

I bought the Aldi version of the velvetiser which also has the cold function. We use it loads and brilliant value

MintyCedric · 12/10/2021 09:56

Daulit actually make the Velvetiser for HC...I'm planning on getting one pre Christmas.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2021 09:58

I can't believe the actual Velvetiser doesn't have a cold function given the price. The process for making cold drinks is a total faff.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 12/10/2021 10:01

@MintyCedric

Yes Dualit make both

Which so you plan to get?

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 12/10/2021 10:02

Is it not basically the same as a Nespresso Aeroccino?

(I have one of those in a cupboard somewhere, having got rid of my Nespresso machine years ago.)

I could be wrong but I thought they basically do the same thing.

That manual shaker one looks quite good @Talipesmum

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 12/10/2021 10:04

We heat up milk and then put that plus chocolate in the blender

I was thinking the same

KrakowDawn · 12/10/2021 10:16

I agree with SoupDragon- if dualit make both, why doesn't the HC one have the same functionality? Very odd. And if it's half the price as BunnyTheFriendlyDragon says then it's a no brainer!

Anyone else feeling like they need a Dragon name now? Grin

KrakowDawn · 12/10/2021 10:17

I'm guessing most people have cups ... so not sure why people would spend twice as much for the HV version- spend the difference on good hot chocolate Wink

It’s great actually - very simple but very effective. I buy gorgeous 70% dark chocolate callets, and make slightly bitter, very strong hot chocolate. Feels very grown up!
BIoodyStupidJohnson · 12/10/2021 11:18

@Talipesmum Well I've just bought one so I shall try it! Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm rather spoiled for good chocolate; I live near Valvona & Crolla in Edinburgh and my friend also runs a bean-to-bar chocolate company.

So I shall be grating up some £££ dark choc for a trial run.
