Thanks for the last thread @MissCherryCakeyBun and thread title @OneMorePieceOfCheese and @room4onemore

Rockhopper81 · 07/10/2021 12:37

Not Christmas, but a request for help - my oldest nephew will be 17 next week, but we're dropping off his cards etc. on Saturday. I will put money in his bank account on his actual birthday, but I need a small gift (£5/£10) so he has something to open.

He's already been using an app to practise for his theory driving test, so my original idea of buying a book for that is gone. He's very sporty - doing a sports apprenticeship - and quite particular about what he wears.

Any ideas?? I'm normally pretty good at gift ideas, but I'm stumped by this!

It seems so much harder than it is for his younger brother!!

DumplingsAndStew · 07/10/2021 12:39

Sorry for the chat on the bargain thread, but wanted to say good luck to @psuedocream3 🤞🤞

@Tinysnickers hope your test comes back negative. Weird number of cases lately with positive LFTs but negative PCRs. Is anyone actually reporting on that, or giving an explanation as to why that's happening? DC2 had to be PCR tested twice in the past 3 weeks with different symptoms, all fine but likely just low immunity as she barely manages to go to school, so when she does she picks everything up (we are still wearing masks here in Scotland high schools, but sadly she can't wear one) It's going to be a very long winter 😕

DumplingsAndStew · 07/10/2021 12:41

@Rockhopper81 For 17ths I always give the cost of a driving lesson, usually around £30, so over your budget. What about a little novelty themed for a car? Fluffy dice? Furry steering wheel cover? Novelty windscreen scraper with glove?

Raindancer411 · 07/10/2021 12:45

@Knifeandfawkes We have got our 16 month old (will be 18 months at Xmas) a crybaby doll. It's the Jenna one they plays lullabies and tears and is very soft.

Tinysnickers · 07/10/2021 12:52

@dumplingsandstew it's just come back negative again. But given that LF was positive this morning there's definitely something weird going on.
Either has got it (asymptomatic) and PCR are broken or something else is making the LF go positive hence the neg pcr. Apparently public health now looking into it.

Rockhopper81 · 07/10/2021 12:57

@DumplingsAndStew

I will put enough in his bank account to cover the cost of a driving lesson, just looking for something for him to open - will have a look at a novelty something-or-other, I think he'll appreciate the humour!

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2021 13:00

@dizzygirl1, £10 off Bloom and Wild CR4PC7.

RJnomore1 · 07/10/2021 13:03

The lateral flow tests are notoriously unreliable for both false positives and negatives - I think it’s about 80% reliability so better than nothing but 1 in 5 results will be wrong...I may have the figures slightly out but that’s why they send you for a PCR which is pretty reliable. Fingers crossed everyone is ok regardless 🤞🏻

psuedocream3 · 07/10/2021 13:04

@RainbowPhilosophy Ifyou go to your topcashback homepage there should be a button on there to opt in. If you can't find it, there is a link here too.

Famousthehero · 07/10/2021 13:16

@Rockhopper81 does he have a travel cup? Vaguely driving themed x

IggyAce · 07/10/2021 13:33

@InDreamland congratulations, I think you may have the first newborn of the threads.

Number109 · 07/10/2021 13:34

@Tinysnickers sorry if this comes across wrong, it’s meant to be helpful not judged! Are the lfts being done close to a mealtime or drink? Some foods and fruit juice I think have been known to show positive LFTs.

Billyandemily · 07/10/2021 13:42

My one year old has a dozy dinkum doll which is lovely and floppy.

woodwaj · 07/10/2021 13:43

mumonthehill · 07/10/2021 13:46
