I love my Christmas trees. I always do lots of different ones. I’m looking for some creative and fun ideas for this year, I’m in a smaller house this year so won’t be able to do lots and I want to do something new. My main one will be rose blush and gold as I bought lots of new decs last year and want to add to that this year. I’d love to see any pictures or ideas you have as my one last year was a bit lacking.

I aldo want to do a couple of crazy ones, I was thinking an elf themed one and something else. Dose anyone have any fun ideas?

In the past I’ve done Harry Potter, Star Wars, Frozen so like something new.

What do you do with all the old decorations?
Have a look at Turtle Creek Lane on Instagram, she decorates her mansion in a different theme every year.
I would do Gingerbread Man theme or Cinderella maybe? You could get carriages and shoes for the tree!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 13/09/2021 23:01

I keep them. Yes I have lots and lots of storage boxes full. Some can be recycled for different themes. I also alternate themes each year. I just feel like something new and fun. It’s just my main theme I don’t tend to change, last year was the first time in about 15 years I changed my main tree and colour scheme. Ive also done all my Christmas shopping so I will be able to splurge a bit this year on something new.

I like the Cinderella idea I have a lot of blue and silver as well as a number shoes that would go with a Cinders theme.

Not too long ago I saw a Great British tree with Union Jack, London bus, black taxi and telephone box baubles. There were also mini pots of Tiptree strawberry jam hanging on it too! Plus red, white and blue tinsel.

NellyTimes · 14/09/2021 07:10

I did a food themed one last year, lots of usual gingerbread men, candy canes christmas puddings etc but also found a turkey dinner, cheeseboard, glass of wine, mug of hot chocolate, mince pie. I put them on a small tree in my dining room, probably going to do that theme every year now, so will be on the lookout for more food decorations.

mmmmmchocolate · 14/09/2021 07:22

@NellyTimes check out paperchase and John Lewis for those sorts of baubles. My tree is more sweetie Christmas treats (candy canes, gingerbread, sweets) but I do have a Chinese takeaway bauble because, Christmas isn’t Christmas without a Chinese on Christmas Eve Grin

Iseeyoulookingatme · 14/09/2021 11:03

How about a grinch themed Christmas tree, there are some amazing ones on Pinterest. I'm doing a Harry Potter one in my sons room this year. Actually I might do a nutcracker one next year.

iabvvu · 14/09/2021 12:57

I did a winter woodland theme last year - lots of little animal baubles (reindeer, foxes, hedgehogs plus a few rogue polar bears) , white fluffy snowball baubles and icicles, I think it was adorable! But I'm very biased

iabvvu · 14/09/2021 13:00

Reading that back it's not very fun or crazy but it was cute

Youseethethingis · 14/09/2021 13:59

I'm going elfy this year, a sea of red and white swirly whirly gumdrops, ideally Xmas Grin
Finding it hard to find baubles sufficiently big and rowdy though. Maybe I'll have more luck when the shops are in full swing, should be in the next few weeks!

@katienana

you beat me to it suggesting Turtle Creek Lane!!

Wildly OTT and extravagant in a larger than life Texas way but I can't look away!!! Glitterball

I seem to have this one stuck in my head. I had a wonder around the range earlier and there were a few decs that could work well.

@Iseeyoulookingatme I like the grinch idea too. I bought one of those grinch legs and head things last year. I could possibly work the 2 of them together as they are the same colours.

@mmmmmchocolate I do a small kitchen themed tree too. I have ice creams, tea pots, ginger breads, cupcakes, I also made a couple of decorations out of my DDs old toy kitchen utensils 😂

I’d really love to do a roblox or minecraft themed one as a surprise for my DDs but not sure I’d have much look with finding decorations.

Growing up we had a Disney themed tree, or a football themed one using the teams colour baubles and a football player as a tree topper!

Now I do nothing in particular - very colourful tbh.

Friend of mine did a horror film themed tree - alien face hugger as tree topper, Freddy kruegers glove etc.
Another friend has done specifically Disney villains, she has her own Etsy shop so a lot of. Decorations are made by her

I love the Disney and Disney villains idea. The only thing is my DDs are all growing out of Disney, only my youngest into anything Disney related. I’d think they’d love it if I just stuck the faces of all there YouTube stars on baubles and covered the tres in those 😂 Actually that’s not a bad idea…..🤔

I’ve done scary Halloween trees in the past.

I do like to make some of the decorations myself or alter others to suit my theme.

@ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS mine started out as a small 3 foot kitchen tree. Then it went to the main 6 foot tree in the lounge and the small 3 foot tree Grin I’m looking at a 7 foot tree now because I have so many ornaments lol. I’m going to have to stop then because I don’t live in a mansion and the ceilings don’t go any higher… Grin

MrsRockAndRoll · 15/09/2021 05:51

Love these ideas!

ditavonteesed · 15/09/2021 06:10

I have a pink tree and all the decorations are vintage my little ponies and Care Bears. Many kids stop outside our house to nose at it. Makes me smile.

thelegohooverer · 15/09/2021 06:43

Every year I’ve bought a bauble for my dc to represent their interests that year. Sometimes, if I haven’t been able to find something suitable I’ve made my own out of a normal figurine by attaching a small eye hook and ribbon and painting it in a light coating of clear glitter glue. That might be an option if you want to try a roblox or minecraft theme.

TwinsandTrifle · 15/09/2021 09:02

I think your gold and rose tree sounds beautiful. I also love the sound of the vintage pink tree.

I think you have to be careful with things like the elf and Grinch style trees as they were done to death about 5yrs ago, and just don't have the effect anymore.

Something I experimented with last year, was flowers and ferns. I, like you, have boxes and boxes of decs, so I can change the colour scheme each year, but I'm going to repeat last year as it looked really pretty. Jewel colours and large flowers and ferns. If I can find a pic I'll post.

Our dining tree is a woodland animal affair, glittery and snowy, DC love it, not my preference, but it's theirs.

My favourites after my current theme, were when the whole tree was red and gold with tonnes of bows, and when the whole thing was just clear iridescent baubles and stars. That looked pretty special.

I'm going to have to travel the camera roll now Xmas Grin

TwinsandTrifle · 15/09/2021 09:11

This is the fern one. Please ignore shit fairy, the real one fell off and smashed and only got replaced after Christmas Blush

I was browsing the M&S website and I came across this decoration and I think a tree with these hanging would be really quite a funny tree:
www.marksandspencer.com/ie/turkey-sandwich-hanging-decoration/p/hbp60510233?color=RED

Have we reached peak M&S Christmas stuff here with a sandwich decoration I wonder???

Youseethethingis · 15/09/2021 10:47

Can you do elves to death at Christmas? Shock
I've been jewel colours for 8 years on the bounce. It will be a big change for my old tree!

Haha my main one is 7ft I had planned on getting a bigger one as our house is an Victorian terrace with really high ceilings. But then we ended up moving so Im glad I didn’t. Im hoping to be in a new house next year, one we own. My DH thinks I have my priorities all wrong as while he’s looking at location and other practical things my priority is how good my Christmas trees will look in the house 😂

Omg I love love this! Id love vintage ornaments like this. My Star Wars tree is mainly decorated with Star Wars kinder egg toys I collected a few years ago.

Every year when we get the trees out I let my DDs decorate with their toys for a few days, then it’s hands off as it’s mine lol. They have their own trees in their rooms they can decorate as they want,

We’ve not done the elf thing before. Last year we had a couple of elf decs on the tree I bought the grinch for, but that’s it. My DCs are still young and are really into the elf’s, they get very excited about them visiting and love the thought of an elf tree. They all love the grinch too, which I don’t get as I’ve never liked it, but it’s all about them.

I do like the flowers and ferns look. I was thinking of adding a few flowers to my main tree this year to give it a fuller look. It’s got very bushy branches, tinsel dosnt suit it at all. I’m thinking some beautiful gold flowers will give it an extra boost.

This is what I’m thinking for the elf tree
