After posting yesterday, I've just bought a few bits online for DCs. Think this thread motivated me a bit, so thank you! We really don't get a lot of stuff for our dcs as they're still small, but what we do buy, I like to put thought into.

Almost all items have been bought on offer and we don't like to do huge piles of presents. Video games are always bought second hand. We try not to overbuy and resist plastic tat where possible.

Love these ideas. From the OP I stole money boxes. Slowly teaching my nieces about money after another gift shop blowout! I bought paint your own from Hobbycraft which look good.

Also buying oil pastels, watercolour pencils and colouring books. They are 7 and 8 years old.

Another recommendation is this.

We bought it during lockdown and have had literally hours of fun creating the games then playing.

Great from, id say, around 3 years up to adults as the games get progressively more complex as you work through the book. You get 3 board types per game if you have multiple children who want to design their own.

Thanks for this! My teens will love this book.

@Adelais we got tie dye kits last year for all our 3dc, they were a huge hit! We got some cheap white T’s from Amazon, middle dc has actually made some as gifts for friends.

@Froppysue it really does get harder as they get older, I think especially when there’s younger siblings, the disparity can send the guilt raging (for me at least), when they then have their own disposable income and won’t just wait till Christmas 🙄.
