Any ideas very greatly appreciated

@CherryLeaf- yes I love that pranko site!

There ARE UK versions. I think they have less range though, but you can certainly buy prank gift boxes in the UK too. Amazon, ebay and etsy sell them too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 21:40

Paul Smith socks
Cheese
Chocolate
Books

TorySteller · 09/08/2021 21:50

Steak stone
Muscle massage gun
Good quality coffee beans/subscription
Headphone stand for his desk
Sealskinz socks/gloves

These are some of my ideas for DH’s upcoming birthday/Christmas.

DoucheCanoe · 09/08/2021 22:44

@clpsmum asking him would be a hell of a lot more helpful than asking a bunch of randomers who know nothing about the bloke - atleast he'd get something he likes/wants/needs rather than more shit to throw aside days later 🤷‍♀️🤣

clpsmum · 10/08/2021 08:06

@DoucheCanoe how joyful your house must be at Christmas! Do you seriously have nothing better to do than comment on a thread you're not interested in just to be nasty and spiteful?

OP posts:
clpsmum · 10/08/2021 08:08

Thanks everyone so far on the list I have the steak stone, magazine subscription, regular charity donation, I'm thinking sponsor a child or animal in his name, coffee beans and the fast car experience. Will also get something from the prank site it's brilliant! I would never have thought of these thank you all so much

DoucheCanoe · 10/08/2021 10:11

We love Christmas here, lots of fun with family and the kids get plenty surprises but thankfully the adults are less effort - we tend to go with hotel vouchers or something so we can have time away together. The emphasis isn't on gifts for us so plenty joy to be had without them🤷‍♀️

Not quite sure where I was "nasty and spiteful"?

I suggested subscriptions and experience gifts the same as many others, our society is obsessed with consumption and the environment is struggling as a result - suggesting that you ask someone what they want is hardly "nasty" 🤣

clpsmum · 10/08/2021 10:23

@DoucheCanoe

Hotel stay is a great idea thank you. Apologies if I took your comment the wrong way. Recently lost my dad and very emotional

OP posts:
Elouera · 10/08/2021 10:45

@DoucheCanoe- your comments were not at all nasty or spiteful at all! I read it as practical!

OP- glad you got some good ideas and sorry for your loss.

clpsmum · 10/08/2021 11:03

@Elouera thank you. She wasn't nasty or spiteful if was me being touchy and emotional and I've apologised x

www.amazon.co.uk/MYCARBON-Magnetic-Wristband-Powerful-Wristbands/dp/B071ZB51L5?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

This has been really popular with the men in our family. To the point my husband bought himself one after we got ours dads them.

Neverwrestlewithapig · 10/08/2021 11:15

A tip I found on here was to look for something he already has and buy him a new/upgraded version. Is there something he has that is used/worn a lot where he might appreciate a new one? Does he have the cheap/basic version of something which you could upgrade? Just an idea.

DoucheCanoe · 10/08/2021 11:20

Sorry for your loss OP, times are tough and emotions run high. No need to apologise 💐

Imtoooldforallthis · 10/08/2021 11:23

I've said this before on other posts, but I go with upgrading existing things he likes. For example, expensive slippers, beautiful quality underwear, a really nice white shirt, expensive coffee or wine.

clpsmum · 10/08/2021 12:46

Upgrading is a brilliant idea I will have a snoop about

@DoucheCanoe thank you and sorry again xx

I'm tempted to get DH an ancestry DNA kit. Does anyone have good/bad experience of them?

That Prank site looks great!

thelegohooverer · 11/08/2021 08:35

I’ve had some success with unusual coffee syrups and condiments. I just mentioned a tape measure on another thread which might be good if he’s into diy. battery testers were a big hit a couple of years ago (I got requests from the men who didn’t get one).
I got dh a heated jacket for night time photography but that might work for other outdoor hobbies or an outdoor job.

Petal7 · 11/08/2021 19:34

Comedy gig tickets
Zoo keeper/animal experience
Cheese subscription
Lovely shower gel (Molton Brown)
Cashmere jumper/scarf/gloves
Coffee subscription
Tickets/meal up the Shard/Sky Garden
City /Hotel break with meal booked at a lovely restaurant
Gin tasting
Wine tasting

Petal7 · 11/08/2021 19:35

And I'm so sorry for your loss

ShoppingBasket · 12/08/2021 03:19

So hard to buy for but as pp poster said upgrades

A few suggestions that went down well with DH and DF...
Secrid wallet
3d puzzle of their football stadium
Retro Jersey of their team
Coffee machine
Heritage test
Fitbit style watch
Wireless headphones
Back scratcher!
A hamper of their favourite treats
Sun lounger (I know, strange at Christmas !)
Concert tickets
Hotel stay or flights.

I generally ask DH is there anything particular he wants and then add a few surprises in. Takes the pressure off but also gives ideas around that then. So he asked for coffee machine one year so I also got him coffee grinder, quality beans, correct cups, coffee biscuits.

Someone posted this link, and I've ordered several of these mugs.

Ask the recipient for a list of their favourite books, or DVD's.
It's a wonderfully personalised gift, without having their name on it.

mdh2020 · 12/08/2021 07:39

Buy yourself some sexy lingerie

Sorrento2014 · 12/08/2021 08:21

Bespoke iPad cover (eg favourite team/family group)
Sports stadium tour
Cameo recording of well known sports star or celebrity bespoke to them/celebration

BammBamm · 12/08/2021 08:56

I did socks in a box which seems to have gone down well. You can choose a subscription length dependent on your budget.
