Christmas Eve jobs

Queuing4Fergs · 24/12/2020 07:08

I have annoyingly woken at 6.30am this morning thinking of all the jobs I need to do:

  1. Last minute dash to Sainsburys for crackers (I didnt get them earlier as their offering was shit but now can't get any elsewhere), christmas pudding (hopefully discounted) and brandy cream (if any left)
  2. Make a pavlova and assemble the trifle
  3. Ironing
  4. Clear out the last of the Christmas decorations and other boxes from the spare room to make room for the DS' new gaming chairs
  5. Get gaming chairs from garage up 3 flights of stairs to the spare room and set them up ready for tomorrow (without the DSs seeing them or putting my back out)
  6. Last minute tidy up and vacuum

Will rope in DH and DSs as appropriate though it may be easier just to send them out for a walk to burn off some energy.

Anyone else with a to do list today?

I’m doing an early dash to Waitrose for some last bits, then spending the money preparing for tomorrow (brandy butter, veggie main, a few other things). DD helping me and making her alternative pudding for tomorrow. DH to go to the off licence and then he and DS to tidy the house. Small snack lunch, and then after that we’ll be in our new PJs in front of the fire playing games, eating party food and watching movies. Yay!

Glenthebattleostrich · 24/12/2020 07:22

clean house
cook food to take to family for lunch tomorrow
collect boxing day food for our proper lunch on Saturday
wait for shopping to be delivered
be hugely cross when putting away because of the missing items (no chateaux neuf, mash, mince pies or crisps ffs)
go to local shop for remaining items ( something I've been avoiding because im high risk and cant wear a mask)
deliver the last of the gifts to local friends on a nice walk
finish Christmas jigsaw puzzle
remind mil who has advancing dementia that she has bought all her Christmas gifts
open the Christmas wine from co-op dash
walk the dog half a dozen times in the hope she won't attack the presents when they are put under the tree
spend the evening playing board games, complaining about how awful the tv is
have a little cry that i cant see my siblings or parents this year

NurseNancyandDoctorDavid · 24/12/2020 07:27

Just glazed the ham that's been in the simmering oven over night.
Off to Waitrose to collect the goose.
Out to brunch with DH, and DDs.
Home to wrap presents, drink, and listen to Christmas music/ carols.
DD 1 making dinner.
Muppets Christmas Carol.
More drink and chocolates.
Girls off to bed, and we'll than put the presents under the tree. 🎄🍾🎄

jomaIone · 24/12/2020 07:28
  1. Clean bathroom

  3. Prepare turkey
  4. Prepare salmon roulade starter
  5. Set table
  6. Hoover

Pretty organised this year, not planning on going to the shops again until 30th if I can avoid it!

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 24/12/2020 07:35

Just heading to collect the butchers order and veg from the farm shop and home via favourite coffee shop for takeaway cup.

Get teens up! Brunch with PIL

Christmas Eve hamper will magically appear vehemently we are out.

Home to prep food and get candles lit.

Santa visiting at 6pm!

inquietant · 24/12/2020 07:41

Hardly any jobs as DP has most of the food prep on his list.

Mine are:
Iron table linen
Change bedsheets
Hoover lounge

And that's it!! Going for a big walk today too.

InvincibleInvisibility · 24/12/2020 07:42

4 loads of washing

2 toilets to clean

Dust entire flat including skirting boards which aren't usually done, cos MIL is staying over (not in UK)

Skype my parents so they can see DC open presents from them

Thoroughly clean the kitchen

Generally tidy

Work out cooking times for tonight and tomorrow

Get DC to do their homework Angry

Mop the entire flat once DH has hoovered (his only contribution as he has a 4 hour round trip to collect MIL)

All of that on very little sleep cos I kept getting woken by a fucking mosquito despite using those plug in thingies (2!) Then dS1 woke at 5.30 and DS2 at 7.

Argh.

MaverickDanger · 24/12/2020 07:43

Collect turkey and sides from Sainsburys (well, send DH in for it)

Hoover living room & sort out dining table

Clear space in fridge somehow

Midwife appointment in the afternoon to see if this baby will stay put for another couple of days.

glitterelf · 24/12/2020 07:43

I'm working till 12 but need to clean and that's it. I did a Tesco dash last night and picked up my Turkey from my dad so whatever we haven't got we miss.

Roselilly36 · 24/12/2020 08:12

I am in bed having a cuppa DH brought me, he’s now dashed off to Morrison’s to get the final bits. Then picking up his Mum (support bubble) I did the cleaning I needed to do yesterday, not planning on doing much today, going to rest (I have a disability) DH will do all the meals, as he usually does, MIL will wash up. So looking forward to a quiet Christmas. Enjoy and make this Christmas the best it can be.

Good luck @MaverickDanger how exciting.

CherryRoulade · 24/12/2020 08:19

Fetch son’s meat order and try and squeeze it in his fridge. He was due to host but can no longer do so and went away, whilst he could, to his future in-laws in low tier. (Permissible armed forces travel day).

Cleaners having day off so quick spruce.

Bake ham and make Pavlova for tonight’s supper. (Outside, under cover, Kadai heated, only six people).

Outdoor crib service and masked carols across the green before supper.

hopeishere · 24/12/2020 08:25

  6. Mince pie etc out for Father Christmas, read the night before Christmas, DC to bed.
  7. Zoom cocktail party with DHs family.
  8. Put FC presents in children's stockings, move presents from us into middle of living room.
  9. Bed
TitsalinaBumSquash · 24/12/2020 08:32

I am working until 3pm, then I'll go to Tesco on the way home to pick up bits I've forgotten.

The lamb will be slow roasted overnight,
The potatoes/sprouts/veg will be prepared.
Stuffing will be made.
I have to put up 2 gaming chairs and attach a large ribbon to a ridiculously large beanbag.

Take away for dinner.
Bailey's in everything!
A family game before bed if anyone can face it,

Jackabobbo · 24/12/2020 08:38

There are only 3 of us this year. Me, DD and her dad. We aren't doing a huge amount food and have everything in already. There's nothing I'm going to do in advance except take the turkey out of the freezer to defrost.

Dd moved all the kitchen chairs and a lot of blankets into the living room to make a camp thing, so I will put that away and tidy up a bit.

Put dd's Christmas presents in her stocking and under the tree when she goes to bed.

I'll probably go out and have a look around the supermarket for last minute bits, but don't really need anything.

Prep sprouts and carrots

Defrost pigs in blankets and prawns

Out to a National Trust property this PM and chinese for dinner

Make a timings board for the Xmas dinner as I've never done it before

Light fire.
Drink gin, eat chocolate and watch Christmas films.

EddieBananas · 24/12/2020 08:44

I wonder if there is a thread on Dadsnet like this? {hmm]

FenEel · 24/12/2020 08:44

Hoover and clean bathroom, pick up hay for the pets, make jelly for trifle, write cards for neighbours and get kids to deliver, put finishing touches to escape room I’m making for kids’ entertainment tomorrow, possibly get 2 more stocking fillers as DS1 has two more than DS2, and they can’t be shuffled! Listen to Nine Lessons and Carols, and tune into the carol service our local church is Zooming. Possibly prep some veg. Then do stockings.
DH is picking up the turkey and essentials like milk as we speak.

Littlemissnutcracker · 24/12/2020 08:45

Both ours and dcs rooms are quite messy so mainly clothes to sort in both. The rest of the house is fairly clean and tidy and easy so sort. I will mop the floors and bring dc out while they dry. I have their outfits ironed for the morning and ready.
I will make a Thai curry today (cheat bit with a kit and microwave rice)
Put gammon on slow cooker and prepare veg for tomorrow. That's it then.

teenagetantrums · 24/12/2020 08:45

Not much as only me and DP this year.
This morning.
Cook beef
Quick clean of flat
This afternoon.
Go to work...prep all the Christmas dinner for care home residents.
This evening
Open wine... thankfully I'm actually off work tomorrow for one day.
This eve

InvincibleInvisibility · 24/12/2020 08:46

Well skype, hoovering, bin emptying and 1 load of washing done. Advantage is that the DSes now have a new switch game to occupy themselves whilst i keep cleaning!

Fortunately finished wrapping yesterday.

And tonight's dinner is just a massive buffet so just needs things chucking in oven/sliced up/packets opened etc.
