Christmas Eve jobs

Queuing4Fergs · 24/12/2020 07:08

I have annoyingly woken at 6.30am this morning thinking of all the jobs I need to do:

  1. Last minute dash to Sainsburys for crackers (I didnt get them earlier as their offering was shit but now can't get any elsewhere), christmas pudding (hopefully discounted) and brandy cream (if any left)
  2. Make a pavlova and assemble the trifle
  3. Ironing
  4. Clear out the last of the Christmas decorations and other boxes from the spare room to make room for the DS' new gaming chairs
  5. Get gaming chairs from garage up 3 flights of stairs to the spare room and set them up ready for tomorrow (without the DSs seeing them or putting my back out)
  6. Last minute tidy up and vacuum

Will rope in DH and DSs as appropriate though it may be easier just to send them out for a walk to burn off some energy.

Anyone else with a to do list today?

I'm WFH until 4pm :(

Dp doing a dash for Veg with our ds15 later today and doing the ironing when he gets back.

When I finish work I'll prep the veg and roast pots for tomorrow, clean the bathroom, order a chinese and watch a film. Eldest dd20 is at home working on her dissertation, although I have asked her to hoover and mop later as I am working.

All the pressies are under the tree already, with the cat guarding them.

Turronisthebest · 24/12/2020 08:47

I'm looking forward to all the food tomorrow.
I've eaten half a Christmas cake already this week in front of countdown.
Just ever so slightly stressed.

I have to wash, blow dry and straighten my hair, iron mine and the kids clothes for the next two days, prep veg, crudités and make a trifle, find room in the fridge for the drinks, hoover, wash the kitchen floor, empty the bins, make two Christingles, put out Santa's refreshments, put presents in stockings, sort out the washing, ring the bells at 6pm and do an online carol concert, all whilst looking after two under five ahhh!

Got to nip to the local shop to get bread and milk. Then tidying up prepping stuff for tomorrow. Then when it starts to go dark I've got to go outside and set up goalposts. Do hope the rain keeps off. Atm I'm sitting on the sofa with a coffee watching the Simpson so it's not going well Grin

ilovebagpuss · 24/12/2020 09:24

I love a what’s to do and list thread normally but actually reading these I’ve decided to scale down mine. So much work everyone has to do I’m not criticising I know a lot of it is absolutely required and some of it’s enjoyable stuff.
But Christmas is for me too. I have to get a few last bits of food and do some meal prep but I’ve crossed off wash the kitchen floor and will just spot clean it! My DF 82 wont notice.
I will hoover but I’m not cleaning the bathroom it’s fine just a bit of bleach down the loo later.
I do need to make stuffing but will do this with DD and enjoy it.
Got to sort presents into sacks later and stuff the stockings.
Watch a Muppets Christmas Carol
Have an easy hot buffet for dinner
Deliver last few cards to neighbours in the dark to look at lights.
Decide on something to wear tomorrow DD’s have stuff ironed and ready not particularly party outfits as we couldn’t find any we liked but they are smart and Comfy.
Have a good one and cross a few things off your list if you need too.

Bouledeneige · 24/12/2020 09:30

Not much to do here as its just me and DD tomorrow in tier 4 and all my wrapping is done. All I need to do is:

  • empty drier and put some washing on
  • check cooking times for the food and prep the potatoes
  • tidy the kitchen and sitting room
  • put champagne in the fridge

We will go for a walk this afternoon (and possibly see friends there)
and then get fish and chips

BiddyPop · 24/12/2020 09:37

Just made scones for breakfast (to use up milk on the turn), and having realised my Christmas coffee was beans not ground, I've had to grind that too before sitting down.

The plans for today include:
Fold the clean laundry and put all away
Finish tidying spare room
Sew together the stockings and 3 gifts that need finishing
Clean out the fire and fill the log box
Cook the spiced beef
Brine the turkey
Peel all the veg and make the stuffing
Ice cookies with DD (and probably facilitate an experimental chocolate bomb making session by her)
I should get some cream (and ice cream as that wasn't delivered)
Make dd hoover the house again after her fluffy black socks have left a later all over the house again- I did the whole house yesterday!!
Make my flower arrangement for the table
Have a long bath
Figure out when the extended family call is happening
Set up my log burner in the garden for tonight (if it stays dry)

BiddyPop · 24/12/2020 09:37

Oh, and drop presents to 2 other doorsteps

Frouby · 24/12/2020 09:38

Going to clean the kitchen, hoover the house and mop downstairs, just waiting for dh and ds to piss off out to put flowers on his mums grave so they are out of the way.

Then cook the ham and red cabbage for tomorrow. Walk the kids and the dog this afternoon, then have a lovely long bath, pjs on and get pissed. Only us tomorrow, will nip and see dmum for an hour to exchange presents and that's it.

Oh, and try and get mine and dhs Annual Christmas Eve row out of the way early 😁. We have 1 every year, usually about breadcakes or fridge loading or some other irrelevant unimportant issue. We lost fil at easter though to cunting coronavirus so am trying very hard not to sweat the small stuff.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/12/2020 09:53

I made my annual festive baked cheesecake yesterday. It's a faff and I'm the only one who really likes it, hence why it's an annual event.

Today I'm going to get a head start on the gravy, as per Nigella's and Nigel Slater's instructions. This involves dealing with giblets, which I've never done before, so it'd better be worth it.

I'm going to make the DC get dressed up and record a festive message with me for all the family we won't get to see this year.

I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver one last minute present which will then need to be wrapped, and I need to write/get the DC to write out the "family" cards which will be given tomorrow.

I think that's it, other than the obvious "Santa" stuff once the DC have gone to bed.

KatherineJaneway · 24/12/2020 09:54

Yes Xmas Grin

Already been to Tesco's for last minute bits

I need to:

  1. Prep the veg for tomorrow
  2. Hoover around, it's not bad but needs a quick once over
  3. Check the timings on cooking the Turkey tomorrow
  4. Once I've checked the Turkey timings have rough timings for everything else.
  5. Open the champagne!
bluechameleon · 24/12/2020 09:57

Hoover living room.
Tidy and decorate dining area of kitchen.
Quick clean of bathroom because that is normally done on a Wednesday and didn't happen yesterday.
Possibly pop to a shop for streaky bacon to go on the turkey, but we can live without it if the shops look horrible.
Make and decorate yule log.
Get the DSs to wrap each other's present.
DH usually gets told to log off around lunchtime on Christmas eve so he will be able to help out later on. Otherwise it is playing/Christmas crafts with the DC, Zoom calls with both families, then party food and Christmas film tonight.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 24/12/2020 09:57

Not much left to do thankfully, just a few little jobs:
Hoover downstairs
Put away clean laundry that is hanging up
Change bedding
Mum will arrive at 5ish and we’ll have a buffet for tea then watch some Christmas tv
Help mum make the stuffing
Wait for DD (teen) to go to bed so I can get her presents out (they’re already wrapped)

Think that’s about it.

mam0918 · 24/12/2020 10:04
  • tidying the kitchen (and general other areas)
  • buy crackers
  • wash stockings
  • finish xmas eve box
  • setting up everything when kids are in bed

waiting on a bunch of packages too that are suppose to arrive today

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/12/2020 10:06

I love on these threads everyone says what they are doing then in brackets ( allowed tier 1or similar ) so they don't get a telling off from someone who tells them its against the rules

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/12/2020 10:10

Play find the recycle box
Tidy up
Washing
Drop of last of presents to friends and family
Quick tesco express shop as no fresh milk/ bread etc
finish wrapping ( leave it late every year , you would think I would of learned by now .
Then out over to my mums garden for an hr with a fire to keep warm and have some nibbles also there for dinner tomorrow so no xmas meal to prepare luckily for us

I8toys · 24/12/2020 10:26

Get up, get showered, get dressed
Birthday lunch with mum and dad out
Sort out Christmas eve boxes for teens
Watch a film or comedian together and eat drink and be merry
Lug all the pressies down and present
Sleep

Ribidibidibidoobahday · 24/12/2020 10:38

Preparing son's room for my dad (support bubble), including moving confiscated toys back from my bedroom and sorting out some to give to nephew.
Tidying my bedroom for sticking opening tomorrow.
Putting away all of the (hopefully) dry laundry.

The rest aren't jobs, they're christmas. Including doing sprouts and peeling potatoes after the kids go to bed. Fewer people to catch up with whilst doing them this year though :-(

TwnklTwnklLittleStarfighter · 24/12/2020 11:02

Wow, you’re a busy lot!

I need to

  • clean the bathroom
  • dust the living room
  • drop presents at my parents (outside)
  • finish the last bits of wrapping
  • hang the stockings
  • heat up the nibbles
  • Christmas tablecloth on
  • chess or board game with the kids
  • bath with a bath bomb
  • Christmas movie

It’s a gorgeous sunny day so I might also manage to plant the tulips.

It’s possible I am underestimating the amount of wrapping.

mummyof4kids · 24/12/2020 11:07

I need to
clean the living room, kitchen and bathroom.
Hoover the stairs
No wrapping to do, finished that last night.
Drop present off at my dads
Prep veg for tomorrow
Open the wine
