I ordered all my gifts online 3 weeks ago and none of them have turned up. I can't go Christmas shopping in the nearest town because I look after extremely vulnerable people so do the responsible thing and order online.
So I have no gifts for my family.
I rang the post office and they say they have a massive backlog and I won't get them before Christmas.
I have no idea what to do now, all my family are 300 miles away so I can't drive down there and leave them on the doorstep.
So pissed off.

Oh dear! Are these family that you will be spending time with over xmas?

There really isn't anything you can do about it unfortunatley, I would give them a heads up that it will be late.

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 18/12/2020 09:49

That's rubbish. I posted a parcel on monday Monday after school pick up and it was delivered wednesday! So maybe there is hope?

HasaDigaEebowai · 18/12/2020 09:50

The post office said that? That's bizarre, Im still receiving things next day with Royal Mail

Isadora2007 · 18/12/2020 09:55

I’m sure your family won’t mind. Just explain and it will be fine. Perhaps get a local bakery to deliver some goodies? Most are doing hampers and stuff.

snookercue · 18/12/2020 09:58

You can go to the shops if you want. NHS workers on covid wards still go shopping. It's your choice. I don't think that you look after vulnerable people means you can't go to a shop, just mask up carefully and take your sanitiser.

Sorry that's not even right, I meant all sorts of people go shopping that look after vulnerable people. NHS workers on NON covid wards that should read!

Presents arriving after Christmas isn't the end of the world, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I do wonder who you spoke to at the post office who could assure you so confidently they won't arrive - there's still a week to go!

Sodamncaughtinthemiddle · 18/12/2020 10:03

I don't understand how they post office worker could know that. I would maybe call back and speak to someone else.
I'm sure friends and family will understand though.

Topseyt · 18/12/2020 10:07

That is bizarre. Round here the Royal Mail (Parcelforce) are at pains to point out that they are delivering right up until 9pm right up to Christmas Eve. That is assuming you are in the UK of course.

Hopefully that means they will get round to you soon. Very poor form if they don't as you ordered in good time. Keep records of your orders and the dates they were made and dispatched. If they still haven't been delivered before Christmas then pursue further for some kind of financial recompense.

slipperyeel · 18/12/2020 11:27

Amazon guaranteed delivery?
John Lewis click and collect

Wellthatwassilly · 18/12/2020 15:37

What alot of shite!

Your really expect us too believe every single item you purchased 3 weeks ago has been lost somewhere🤣🤣🤣

XmasShopper · 18/12/2020 15:41

This really is very strange. I ordered most of mine over the last two weeks and I think they've all been delivered.

You must be getting email notifications about the delivery status surely.

MynephewR · 18/12/2020 15:42

Hmm someone at the post office told you that the parcels you ordered THREE WEEKS AGO will not arrive before Christmas because of a backlog?

Amazon are delivering before Christmas, plenty of other places are as well. Or just explain and give your family their gifts when they arrive. Plenty of options.

BaronessBomburst · 18/12/2020 15:46

Unless you've ordered from AliExpress I really can't see this happening.
Everything I ordered last week has already arrived at various UK addresses, and from various retailers.

Mycircusmymonkey · 18/12/2020 15:49

Where are you ordering from? I don’t think one single item I’ve ordered online has been sent via Royal Mail. Sorry but I’m finding this a bit hard to believe Hmm

Floralnomad · 18/12/2020 15:50

This ! I’ve not been in a shop since March , have done all my shopping online and so far everything has arrived . I also had a parcel posted in Kent on Monday ( Royal Mail special delivery) that arrived in the Scottish highlands on Tuesday , can’t fault it .
katy1213 · 18/12/2020 15:51

Very odd - everything I ordered last week has turned up by 2nd class post already.
But it's not the end of the world if a Christmas present is late! They'll survive.

NerrSnerr · 18/12/2020 15:54

The post office wouldn't have told you that and 3 weeks ago things were delivering pretty much as normal.

ZippedyDooDa · 18/12/2020 15:56

Where are you OP? If you join Amazon Prime (something like £80/yr) you get free next-day delivery on many, many things. I get Amazon to do the wrapping and get the items delivered directly to the recipients.

dancemom · 18/12/2020 15:57

Post Office are not Royal Mail and don't have anything to do with delivery from companies to customers so you might want to come up with a better excuse

Mammyloveswine · 18/12/2020 16:03

Where have you ordered from that use Royal Mail? Most online places use couriers!

I've ordered plenty in the last week and it's all turned up!

Will probs order a few more last minute bits when I get everything out tomorrow to see what I've bought!

mrsduff · 18/12/2020 16:11

Is there a problem with your payment which is why orders aren't arriving? If you're ordering online and payment goes through you'll be getting despatch notices surely?

Nanasueathome · 18/12/2020 16:15

I have ordered everything on line
My daughter has ordered everything on line
All to be delivered to my house
Some days I am embarrassed with the number of deliveries we have
Everything has been delivered in a very timely manner and the Royal Mail and courier services have been doing an excellent job
Royal Mail do deliver up to 9pm, I had a late delivery the other day, and I think most courier companies are also delivering well into the evenings

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/12/2020 16:27

I have ordered absolutely everything online( disabled) Most during the last month and not one item from Hermes and Royal Mail has been delayed or lost, dispute my postman telling me they have a huge backlog
I'm in Wiltshire

Taylrse · 18/12/2020 16:34

I have had a couple of items delayed with royal mail this last fortnight or so. However they all turned up a couple of days later so wasn't an issue.
It does sound very odd that all of your orders haven't arrived. Did you buy the presents from the same place or different websites?
