Give me your best suggestions...we got kids Monopoly last year and played it loads, Game of Life also a hit. Was thinking Cluedo...would we go for the kids version or normal, dds are 8 and 12?

Ingenious is brilliant. So is Quirkle.

ThatBitch · 12/12/2020 19:31

At 8 and 12 I would go for one of the normal versions of monopoly. We've got family trivial pursuit, normal cluedo and monopoly deal for Christmas for our 8yo

BefuddledPerson · 12/12/2020 19:34

I prefer the Harry Potter cluedo for kids, it is more fun as has additional features plus is murder really that festive?

Ticket to Ride is great with kids, and Carcassonne.

IsFinnRogersDead · 12/12/2020 19:39

Really Nasty Horse Racing Game.
Exploding Kittens.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 12/12/2020 19:42

Throw throw burrito
Small World (it is a bit heavy to learn but my 7 year old absolutely loves it. Watch a youtube video of the board game geek playing it through and then it's no problem).

OhTheTastyNuts · 12/12/2020 19:44

DSs age 10 and 7 play ordinary Cluedo without any problems! They are getting the Harry Potter one for Christmas.

Labyrinth is great. Or whatever version of Monopoly would appeal to them (we have Pokemon and Dinosaur).

Pictionary?

Tinseltrauma · 12/12/2020 19:45

I second the really nasty horse racing game. We like it because everyone is involved all the time as opposed to say Monopoly where often some players end up 'making up the numbers'.

Frenchfancy · 12/12/2020 19:46

Ticket to ride is one of the best games out there, way better than cluedo.

Camel up is great, as is Labyrinth.

TeenPlusTwenties · 12/12/2020 19:47

The London Game?

Mol1628 · 12/12/2020 19:47

My 8 year old just got Tsuro for his birthday and it’s a great one for kids and adults. Up to 8 players so a good one for family games.

elQuintoConyo · 12/12/2020 19:49

Carcassonne
Catan
Rummikub
Bananagrams (not strictly a boardgame, just a banana!)
Card games: Exploding Kittens, Virus, Uno, Sushi Go,

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/12/2020 19:50

Labyrinth.
Hotel Tycoon.
Man Bites Dog.
Bounce-Off

And we still have my 1980s Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs if we run out of ideas... 😂

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 12/12/2020 19:53

Takenoko
Tokaido
Dinosaur Island
Carcassonne
Catan
Ticket to ride
Through the desert
Nyet
Gloom
Fluxx
Exploding kittens
Dixit
Labyrinth
Articulate
Reef
Tsuro
Pandemic
Zombie dice
Dobble
Rhino hero
Sushi go

Vargas · 12/12/2020 19:56

My kids prefer normal Cluedo to the Harry Potter one.

They also like Dobble, Exploding Kittens and Trivial Pursuit. One of them loves Monopoly but the rest of us hate it.

(off to find Ticket to Ride...we played it once and I can't remember why we haven't played it again)

SexTrainGlue · 12/12/2020 20:20

Our favourite is Articulate

But for this year, we have Pandemic

(price has gone up since I bought it!)

JingleJohnsJulie · 12/12/2020 20:23

I know it's an old one but frustration is still a good family game.

milienhaus · 12/12/2020 20:25

Camel Up or Ticket to Ride for sure

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 12/12/2020 20:29

We’ve always just gone for the adult versions of everything and simplified the rules if necessary or had young ones on a team. They last forever then.

Ticket to Ride is also one of our favourites.

This year we’ve got:
The Chase (family edition like Trivial Pursuit)
Jumanji
Monopoly Sore Loser (because 9 year old is a born capitalist and gets really stroppy because he thinks he is the best)

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 12/12/2020 20:30

Also 5 Second Rule, Listography and the Sussed games are fun.

Anjelika · 12/12/2020 20:32

Ingenious, Qwirkle and Rummikub are favourites here. Monopoly Empire quite good too.

JingleJohnsJulie · 12/12/2020 20:36

Camel Up or Ticket to Ride for sure.

Oh God we love Camel Up!

pinkpetal2 · 12/12/2020 20:37

I used to love the game payday it might be a bit "old" for kids though but I used to enjoy playing it when I was around 10.

ImAncient · 12/12/2020 20:41

We no longer play monopoly in this house. Too many arguments.

We do annual trivial pursuit male v female at Christmas. Family ructions. So we no longer play that.

So we stick to a nice safe Murder. Normal Cluedo. The only board game where we don’t end up killing each other.

GlamourSpider · 12/12/2020 20:48

Dixit
Sheriff of Nottingham
Jamaica
Greedy Goblins

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2020 21:06

Articulate and Five Second Rule.

We always have Frustration out over Christmas, and whenever there is a quiet moment, there are always two or three others up for playing it.

And a jigsaw! Grin
