Give me your best suggestions...we got kids Monopoly last year and played it loads, Game of Life also a hit. Was thinking Cluedo...would we go for the kids version or normal, dds are 8 and 12?

Normal Cluedo would be fine - my nearly 8 year old can play really well.
Other popular games here include:

  • Labyrinth
  • Catan (just got and already loved)
  • Risk (but can get long)
  • Ticket to Ride
  • Exploding Kittens

Exploding Kittens looks good. Is Ticket to Ride the railway one?

My 8 year old likes pretty much any monopoly but especially voice banking version. He likes payday, think words, dobble, hedbanz, Harry Potter scrabble

Yes ticket to ride is the railway one. You get routes and have to build them with your trains. Its good because unlike monopoly no one gets knocked out. You all play until someone runs out of trains then you count the points. Not alway clear who has won until the end. Good for teaching geography too.

Cluedo is great. Just get the normal board game.
We’re getting Logo second edition. We have the original game, but some of the brands my dds don’t get as they’re from the 90’s.

Agree with this and when ours were young we didn't even bother counting points if someone was going to lose it!

Also Agricola, build a very cute farm.

We have gone for collaborative games this year for our DC (ages 7, 9 and 11) where you have to work as a team to win. There are lots out there but we’ve chosen:
Forbidden Island
Zombie Kidz
Cauldron Quest
Bandido

@pinkpetal2 payday is a favourite in our house! It was my favourite as a child so was very excited to find it at a carboot. My dds have played from around 5 and 8 Still gets played fairly often at 8 and 11.

Other games mine enjoy are harry potter cluedo, exploding kittens. We also play the logo game when we saw my mum (been too long 😢) my 8 year old goes on a team with an adult but there's a new version out with more up to date logos so they might be ok on their own! Ive bought the new version for Christmas.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 13/12/2020 08:58

Oh yes, we have second edition Logo Game too this year - that’s our family game that Santa leaves.

junglepie · 13/12/2020 09:57

favourites in this house are:
ticket to ride
carcasoone
catan
dixit
forbidden island
Gubs (card game)

I have just ordered Mysterium for this year after a recomendaiton on another thread - looks good so looking forward to trying that one out.

DunravenBadger · 13/12/2020 10:21

We've just got Smallworld.

Also love playing Carcassonne,
Dobble (so many different versions and great for whole family)
Uno Flip
Monopoly card game
Trivial Pursuit - we have the Harry Potter version
Monopoly standard version is good for your DC's age now we were out of the junior version by about 7/8.

Also as others have said a good jigsaw - but obviously not a board game.

pinkpetal2 · 13/12/2020 10:57

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts Same! That's where we found our one too Grin

poochie27 · 13/12/2020 12:29
