My dc are mithering me for coloured lights on the tree next year. The idea is growing on me in a retro sort of way. What baubles and decorations look good with coloured lights?

Show me your trees.

I always wanted coloured lights as a kid and my mum wouldn’t let us Grin mine now I’m a grown up are white but I suspect DD will clamour for them in years to come - I suppose I deserve it! Karma and all..

FrankiesKnuckle · 10/12/2020 18:25

Coloured lights for the last few years here, much cheerier!
Our decorations are a mix and match of red, gold and green and anything else.

Tulipshoots · 10/12/2020 18:27

I like them, I went for old yellow gold this year but I think coloured lights are so pretty.

tinselfest · 10/12/2020 18:29

This year, for the first time ever in all my 50 something years that I haven't had coloured lights on the tree and I'm missing them, so it is back to coloured next year.

MonkeyPuddle · 10/12/2020 18:31

We have a mix of coloured and warm white lights, roughly double the coloured to white ones.
We always had coloured lights as a kid so it brings back all those warm, magical feelings. DS is 3 and since the trees been up he doesn’t like the big light switching on so that the tree lights up the room, he approves of my coloured lights.

My DS is the same and has been asking for coloured lights, but on the outside of the house. We’re hopefully going to buy some in the sales!

WisestIsShe · 10/12/2020 18:34

This is my first year without them. Only because my old bulb lights died and I can't bear the brightness of coloured LEDs.
I asked for advice on here and was recommended berry lights as colourful but subtle. My tree is up (in boring depressing warm white) but I'll definitely be getting them for next year.

WitchOfTheWest · 10/12/2020 18:35

I've a mix of white and coloured lights (740 in total!). I prefer ornaments to baubles and I've got a mix of all sorts on there. Santa's, penguins, polar bears. We've a Brussels sprouts set I had from Asda last year. We are on our 2nd year of our new tradition of buying a nasty/tacky new ornament every Christmas. Last year we had 2 ugly dinosaurs and a hideous hippo with a curly wig (all from Asda!). This year we have a shiny plastic crab! All ugly but we love it!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/12/2020 18:36

Mine are vintage style/colours. I have a mix of baubles and ornaments of quite different styles on the tree this year.

I usually only have warm white lights but I fancied a change, and I really like how it turned out.

We have a pre-lit artificial tree, which can be switched from coloured to white. Keeps everyone happy.

LadyShmuck · 10/12/2020 18:37

Coloured and white on mine. I actually think it looks much more festive with the colourful lights on. The tree this year is massive so we just put all of the baubles we had on it. I was initially not into it, but I love it now.

It has to be coloured lights for me. The multi function ones so you can have them twinkling or static etc. I have all different baubles that we have collected over the years 😊🎄.

We’ve got coloured lights outside and I’m loving them, so much cheerier than standard white lights.

I’ve got a mix of warm and cool white lights indoors and I love the combination.

picklemewalnuts · 10/12/2020 18:56

We've got red and white. Bit random. Looks cheerful though.

We always have coloured ones. I didn’t know it wasn’t a thing

scrivette · 10/12/2020 19:44

My outdoor tree has coloured lights, they are really cheery.

This is my favourite tree thos year so far, exactly how I love a tree to look 🎄

(Really want to see your fireplace!)

BiteyShark · 10/12/2020 20:06

I have two trees, one with coloured lights and one with white.

I would replace the white ones in an instance with coloured but can't justify the waste iykwim.

The coloured ones look so much better than just white but then again my tree is eclectic in design e.g. random baubles and tinsel (no Christmas themed trees in this house Grin)

mumpleasemayi · 10/12/2020 20:10

This is our tree, just love multi coloured lights, reminds me of Christmas when I was a kid.

This is ours. I reckon it needs a load more baubles but I'm not spending anymore money on decs this year!

I've gone for coloured lights this year. I bought traditional. Lights though, (not LEDs) and they have pink in. It is just like the trees of my childhood! Total mismatch of baubles, all the ones chosen by the kids over the last 22 years. I love it Grin
