Why did I buy cherries in Kirsch?

I do a monthly “dry goods” click and collect from the local supermarket. This month I put in a few goodies to stash away for Christmas. A couple of boxes of biscuits, fancy crisps etc.
In my order was also a large jar of Opies black cherries in kirsch.
I’m not cooking a Christmas pudding or cake this year (it’s only me that would eat it) so why did I buy it? It was in my order so it was definitely a deliberate purchase.
What did I have planned for it please?? I haven’t a clue!
Kudos to the most outlandish suggestion...

An epic black forest gateau?

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 28/11/2020 18:17

Because they are divine on good vanilla ice cream.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 28/11/2020 18:17

And count towards your 5 a day.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 28/11/2020 18:19

An exotic but sticky sex game of some sort?

PearlclutchersInc · 28/11/2020 18:19

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 28/11/2020 18:19

You glanced at the jar and thought it was beetroot?

Bigyellowflowers · 28/11/2020 18:20

Second putting them on ice-cream.

Or make pancakes with the ice-cream and recreate a little chef pancakes jubilee. Food.of.the.godsGrin

Making a tiramisu and putting some of those on it?

saraclara · 28/11/2020 18:23

Well if you don't want them, I'll have them. They're my favourite Christmas treat.

katy1213 · 28/11/2020 18:23

Last time I bought them was for a chocolate roulade.

orangenasturtium · 28/11/2020 18:23

I make a black forest Yule Log every Christmas. There has been talk of Mary Berry's Black Forest Roulade on the Christmas threads recently.

Lovelydovey · 28/11/2020 18:32

Black Forest trifle.

On porridge on Xmas day with cocoa nibs and cream!

rosegoldwatcher · 28/11/2020 18:40

Whiz some up with a few measures of alcohol to make one of these cocktails.
Even better - make them all!

Lots of good ideas - 😳 at the sticky sex game - plus I’m not sure I want to share them!!
Definitely not Black Forest gateaux or yule log - I don’t really like chocolate puddings.
Yy to ice cream though and I’m definitely going to look at those cocktails. I did wonder if a kirsch royale would taste ok....

To have with meringue and cream, like a sort of Germanic pavlova.

You have given me a wonderful idea...

Mochudubh · 28/11/2020 19:30

A guy on Saturday kitchen today made cherries covered in marzipan and chocolate.

cherrypiepie · 28/11/2020 19:33

Hide them and eat them with a spoon - I can't think of a better use for them. Bon appetite!

Lordamighty · 28/11/2020 19:33

Cherries in kirsch are the taste of Christmas for me. Slightly warmed, poured over a good quality vanilla ice cream. They are also really good on a slice of panettone with a dollop of brandy cream.

rosegoldwatcher · 28/11/2020 19:35

I am so putting Black Cherries in Kirsch on the shopping list!

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 28/11/2020 19:37

Eton mess.... meringue nests, ice cream, whipped cream and fruit.... I also like it with a spoonful of mincemeat and a drizzle of baileys. Super quick and easy dessert.

SoMuchToBits · 28/11/2020 19:37

I usually use them in my cherry trifle! Get some panettone, cut it up and smear with a good quality cherry jam. Put in trifle bowl. Add cherries in kirsch. Make a custard. Stir a bit of cherry brandy in. Add custard to bowl. Decorate with a few fresh stoned cherries. Job done!
