Just that really. I am trying to get away from carrots which we eat every day of the week.

3 veg. Come on hit me with your fab veg.

You won't like to hear it: sprouts tossed in bacon. Or vice versa.

maxelly · 23/11/2020 16:45

We're having way more than 3 veg despite there only being 3, maybe 4 of us depending on the rules! Not counting the roasties and the vegetarian main, we'll have:

-Honey roasted carrots and parsnips
-Slow braised spiced red cabbage
-Buttery mashed swede (poss also turnip)
-Saute leeks (poss with bacon although then veggies can't have)
-Sprouts (format as yet undecided, last year we need a nigella varient with lemon and pomegranate seeds)
-Possibly another green veg -peas or brocoli?

Way overkill, it won't all get eaten but everyone has different favourites and veg is one of the things which is easy to cook in advance! Leftovers will save for another meal, freeze or as a final resort be given to the guinea pigs for their Christmas dinner Grin

halcyondays · 23/11/2020 16:45

We don’t have anything very exciting.
Roast and mashed potatoes
Carrot and parsnip mash
All ready made
Brussels sprouts

Red cabbage is nice, nobody but me would eat it, honey roast parsnips

BiarritzCrackers · 23/11/2020 16:51

I keep it simple as usually cook for three and have never cooked for more than six. I only do:
roast potatoes
roast parsnips
sprouts
red cabbage if it's goose or duck

I have always had small kitchens and rubbish ovens; I know my limits!

Nonamesavail · 23/11/2020 16:53

Toast tats and parsnips
Sprouts
Carrots

tengingers · 23/11/2020 17:00

We'll have what we have with most of our other roasts. Roasted carrots and parsnips, cabbage and leeks steamed then a bit of butter added (kale stir fried in butter and garlic is also yum), sometimes we add broccoli, sometimes asparagus, sometimes peas, sometimes all of it. For Christmas I'll do brussels for dh but I don't like them.

RoughWinds · 23/11/2020 17:02

Sautéed Leeks
Roasted Sprouts
Roast potatoes
Savoy Cabbage
Mashed swede with more butter than should be allowed
Cauliflower cheese (we have one veggie who opts for cauliflower cheese as her main so we make enough for everyone).

Brussels sprouts sautéed with pancetta, chestnuts & cranberries. Loads of butter, plenty of salt - delicious!

Braised red cabbage with orange & port.

Carrots (Sorry), parsnips and swede roasted with honey & thyme - I think it tastes better with a mix of at least two. Or we might just do it crushed, not sure yet.

We had roasted beetroot and red onion with a balsamic glaze recently which was really good, so we might do that too.

XiCi · 23/11/2020 17:29

haircutsRus · 23/11/2020 17:50

Sprouts
Parsnips
Carrots
Sweetcorn
Either green beans or peas.
Roast potatoes.

There's only 4 of us this year, it is usually more, in which case I'd do new potatoes and mashed swede as well.

EternalOptimist7 · 23/11/2020 17:56

Definitely not red cabbage cos it always ends up as purple slime lol 🤣
Goose or duck fat roast potatoes
Petitpois
Honey roast parsnips
Sprouts ( found a recipe to oven bake them instead of boil them to oblivion!)
We do have carrots - I roast them with the parsnips

bellagogosdead · 23/11/2020 17:57

Peas and carrots because I have to have peas and carrots.
Sprouts because dh has to have them.
Mashed potatoes and roast potatoes.
Leeks or roast onions.
Romanesco if I can get some, broccoli if not.
Maybe cabbage, roast dinners are all about the veg for me.Grin
