Presents for teenage DS

There’s a fabulous thread running where the OP asked for present suggestions for her hard-to-buy-for teen DD and got some great suggestions. Some unisex, but many girl-specific.

Can we have one for a DS too please?? I have 15 and 16 yo boys who have pretty much everything technology and game-wise, and don’t need more clothes or hobby stuff and can’t think of anything they want. Why doesn’t MN have an eye roll emoji?

So what are you getting your teen DSs??

Doesn't have to be pricey. We are saving for a house and DS is hoping g to go to uni so he knows things are tight.

I have got him practical stuff mainly. He is 16.

Radox original gift set
Socks and boxers from river island
Couple of tops and hoodie in sale (£2-5 each)
Snack box (always a fave present. I buy the nice chocolate spread they like, drinks and crisps etc as I usually buy tescos version so they love their treat boxes)

Going to get some slippers and dressing gown
Beatles top

Not too exciting but he is old enough to not expect thousands when we are trying to give him the best future.

I haven’t kept up with the girl thread @FiveMoreMinutesPlease what is the puzzle box thing for cash?

Mine spend their lives in pyjamas - they will love the Oodie. Just coming into summer here so not great timing, but oh well.

Have also just ordered as stocking fillers personalised phone charging cables that popped up as a fb ad (yes, I’m a marketers dream Blush) - they only seem to last 5 minutes before breaking in this house, and are always argued over.

Mine actually love the practical stuff @Nonamesavail - I’ll usually put boring new socks, undies and pyjamas in their stockings and they are really pleased. Weird kids.

Haha yeh mine love it. My husband loves his new socks at Xmas lol

@Ginandplatonic it's something like this.

What about a young driver experience? I’ve got this for my 16yo who’s desperate to drive as soon as he turns 17. You can usually get Black Friday offers on them...

Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 08:30

@FiveMoreMinutesPlease that is so cool. My brother’s partner’s teen son usually wants a gift card, I will definitely order one of those to put it in.

@Maladicta great idea - that was the 16yo’s birthday present. Smile

Ds is 15 on Christmas Day. He’s massively into model collecting and building - trains/lorries/air fix/scenery etc. Rapidly running out of space but not complaining as it makes him really easy to buy for!

Starlightstarbright1 · 22/11/2020 08:33

Mine is having a kindle

Upgrade his Alexa

Colour changing lightbulbs

Lense for iPhone

Ds started these at 14 in an actual driving instructor car so not the sports car experience etc.

He benefited from several of them before he turned 17 and found them fun and less stressful as you are either in a car park or on an old air field so not on a road with other users just other learners.

We are also out of gift ideas this year. DCs have everything they want.

GhostTypeEevee · 22/11/2020 08:52

De is also really into Pokémon so is getting some Pokémon boxes and also I will probably get him a certain card he has been desperate for.

I have got him some chocolate bombes from cocoba.

I'm thinking of getting a chillys water bottle.

Has anyone got any advice on skincare for a 14yo? He's started to get spots on his forehead

Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 09:05

@GhostTypeEevee I was just looking at a Dermalogica gift pack for acne prone skin earlier as one of mine has the same problem. I am in Australia though so not sure if any suggestions I make would be relevant to you.

Having said that I got my older son some nice (read expensive) skin care products last year, because he likes that kind of thing and he said they were fine but he’s just as happy with his Nivea or Olay or whatever from the supermarket. Confused He does tend to prefer cheaper/less trendy things just to be contrary though. Grin

Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 09:11

Oh yes that’s right - new water bottles was the other stocking filler I got them. Just the Nike ones because that’s what they like.

That's a great idea Mines obsessed with driving and cars
ExpensivelyDecorated · 22/11/2020 09:24

I'm a bit stuck too, but he had an Ipad for getting GCSEs / starting 6th form so we aren't spending too much.

So far he has got:
A kit for making cheese
A three month Spicery subscription (curry recipes and ingredients).
Match of the Day annual (he has had them every year since he was about 6)
Tee shirt with a discreet logo from his football club - he often uses Christmas money to buy the actual shirt.
I will also be getting socks/pants/sweets/ fidget toys etc for his stocking but no smellies as he doesn't like them.

Successes from the last couple of years include
Lava lamp
Pasta machine
Sushi making kit
Hockey kit bag
Behind the scenes tour of Silverstone with DH.
Behind the scenes tour of his football club - I went with him the day after Boxing Day and it was brilliant, sadly won't work this year.

ScarlettDarling · 22/11/2020 09:27

My ds loves his inflatable lounger. You can get similar on Amazon and eBay. You just kind of waft them round o inflate and they can be used indoors or outdoors.

My 16 year old is impossible to buy for. He's not into gaming, music, tv or movies or sport! He sounds very boring having put it like that but he isn't really!

ScarlettDarling · 22/11/2020 09:28

My son turns 17 in January so we're getting him a driving test theory book, provisional licence and driving lessons.

AlwaysLatte · 22/11/2020 09:31

Some great ideas here. I'm trying to finish one person's present shopping each day and thanks to not being able to sleep last night DS12 is now sorted except for the Xbox, fingers crossed.....

Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 09:48

16 yo just came through and said his ear phones have stopped working. Yay! Ear pods ordered! So that’s ear pods, full length mirror and Oodie plus stocking fillers so far for Jim.

OP posts:
Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 09:48

Him. For him. His name’s not Jim!

GhostTypeEevee · 22/11/2020 09:53

That sounds like my son with expensive stuff too Grin

Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 09:58

That lounger looks good @ScarlettDarling my 15 yo who is also v hard to buy for would love it.
