What are your favourite Christmas treats and from what shop, if applicable?

I really like the Baklava and Luxury Stollen from Lidl. I'm contemplating the M&S triple chocolate panettone this year but not had it before.

Aldi florentines for me.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 21/11/2020 07:50

Waitrose No1 nougat
Starbucks toffee nut latte instant sachets
Thomas Fudge’s salted caramel florentines
Morrison’s Black Forest mince pies

MintyCedric · 21/11/2020 13:39

Tesco Salted Caramel, peanut, chocolate and pretzel mix
Mulled wine has to be from Lidl...also their Lebkucken

MintyCedric · 21/11/2020 13:40

@Fivemoreminutes1 have you tried the Toffee Nut Latte sachets yet?

I've bought some but stashed them away.

dudsville · 21/11/2020 13:44

This might be a weird one, but I usually look forward a break during christmas shopping by popping in to pret and having their christmasy sandwich. That won't be happening this year so I've bought the ingredients; cranberry sauce, a taste the difference stuffing mix that has orange peel and finely chopped or ground chestnuts, sliced turkey, rocket, etc, this is a treat for me!

AGnu · 21/11/2020 13:49

I was obsessed with maple bacon pretzels from Sainsbury's last year but they don't seem to be doing them this year & I can't find an alternative. It's the Cadbury caramel bell shaped tree chocolates all over again.

AliceinBunniland · 21/11/2020 13:52

Candy canes
Sainsburys mini gingerbread men are delicious
Shortbread

AliceinBunniland · 21/11/2020 13:52

There used to be a dark chocolate mint Terry's "orange" which was nice

NeutralJanet · 21/11/2020 13:55

Aldi Lebkuchen.
Pesto Appeteasers.
Chocolate covered Brazil nuts.

Knittedfairies · 21/11/2020 14:02

Pepperkakour (sp?) ginger thins from IKEA. We decided we'd have to do without this year; going to IKEA for biscuits would be ridiculous! However, I found a recipe online and made my own which were very successful, even if I do say so myself. I think I'll make some more; if I have a couple or three everyday, I'll know whether I've still got a sense of smell and taste...

queenofmycastlex · 21/11/2020 14:03

I can’t remember the company you that makes them but Costco do these big bags of pretzels with chewy caramel dipped in chocolate and they are so nice!

Elephanttrunk · 21/11/2020 14:15

Mmm great threat. I love panettone but the chocolate one isn’t grabbing my attention, I’d miss the dried fruit.
I shop at Tesco so any more recommendations like “ Tesco Salted Caramel, peanut, chocolate and pretzel mix” are very welcome 😁

EmmaStone · 21/11/2020 14:36

Aldi stollen bites for me - getting to Aldi used to be a right PITA, but they opened one that's very convenient now 😭. I'm holding off until 1 December, but I can't resist them when I have them in the house, and they're SO calorific.

And agree with the Pret Xmas sandwich, although I've not found it as good as it used to be in the last couple of years.

UndertheCedartree · 22/11/2020 14:05

@dudsville - that sounds really nice! I've always liked the turkey and cranberry toasted sandwiches they have in Costa! I put myself off it a bit though when one year I was doing night shifts at the hospital and on my break I went to the Costa for a coffee. I knew it would be too heavy to eat in the middle of the night but I fancied one so much I bought one. Worst indigestion ever! I might make myself one at lunchtime one day to avoid the indigestion!

I love the mince pies from the bakery section in the supermarkets, the pasty is so short and they’re covered in icing sugar, delicious!
Also Christmas is the only time I have Lindt chocolates, those or Guilian chocolate seashells would be high up on my list too.

Spied · 22/11/2020 18:20

M&S tin of shortbread
Lidl Favourina(?) Turkish delight

Spied · 22/11/2020 18:21

M&S Swiss chocolate balls. ( Like Lindors but better).

Sniv · 22/11/2020 18:33

Really, all I want is my Boxing Day bubble & squeak. It's my favourite meal of the year.

I'm also really looking forward to some piping hot nut roast that's crisp around the edges and squidgy in the middle, slathered in gravy. I'm a meat eater and nut roast is a recent discovery - it's like the best stuffing ever.

I'm also delighted to have a sugar-free chocolate advent calendar again. In a shocking act of Christmas-ruining, Holland & Barratt stopped doing theirs last year and left me bereft. Happily, a lovely person on here hunted out a good substitute for me this year so I'm sorted.

Oysterbabe · 22/11/2020 18:38

All cheeseboard things really.
Cheeses, chutney, crackers, grapes, port...
I find it impossible to stop.

HedgieHog · 22/11/2020 19:49

Christmas sandwich with leftovers, Turkey stuffing cramberry, sliced up pigs in blankets. Just heaven. I can't wait to have it!

Mumdiva99 · 22/11/2020 19:53

Blinis and smoked salmon. My favourite Xmas breakfast.

I agree with florentines too....I always buy an aldi box for Xmas.....and eat them within a couple of days. Hmm

SymphonyofShadows · 22/11/2020 19:53

Lidl do some freeze dried sour cherries covered in dark chocolate that are amazing.

I try not to eat M&S cheese tasters by the bucketload and I make a rocky road with ginger nuts that is a massive treat as it has so much chocolate in it.

Oysterbabe · 22/11/2020 20:51

We have smoked salmon bagels for breakfast Christmas day and they are amazing. I agree that leftovers with lovely fresh bread is a real treat.

GVmama · 22/11/2020 20:59

I’d almost forgotten how good a Christmas dinner leftover sandwich is, with soft bread and whatever chutney I can find. I probably prefer it to the actual meal hot!

BeaLola · 22/11/2020 22:49

The M&S chocolate cherries.

I plan to buy DS 12 the M&S Panettone - no one else likes Panettone in our house apart from DS so I always put one in his stocking

M&S Colin (!)

I love tempura prawns so we always buy a shed load for Christmas canapes
