I spent so much energy thinking about what to get everyone else that tonight when dh asked what I’d like I couldn’t come up with anything. There’s no I absolutely need so help me think of something I need! We don’t spend a huge amount on each other at Christmas. I also need to think of something small, around £15ish that dd can get me ( with the help of dh)

All suggestions gratefully received!

Why do you need to think of what your DH helps your child to choose? Confused it's just a token at that price so surely he can work that one out!?

BusterGonad · 11/11/2020 03:01

Well I've asked for a Moleskin diary. For me they are something I use a lot and are a bit pricey so make a nice gift.

micc · 11/11/2020 04:25

I've asked my OH for some books, some earrings from a local etsy seller, a jumper from a local shop and a perfume :) I dont usually wear any, so I've asked him to buy me one he thinks would be nice for me Haha it's either going to go one of two ways 😂

BusterGonad · 11/11/2020 04:38

Nice list micc, I had a perfume for my birthday. SJP Lovely. Its a powdery soft everyday type scent. Lovely is the perfect name for it as its so unoffensive and nice.

lovelemoncurd · 11/11/2020 04:54

Absolutely couldn't give a monkeys this year. That's how I feel about it. I think coronavirus has made me realise what an exercise in greed Christmas really is.

MysweetAudrina · 11/11/2020 06:24

I gave him a list to choose from:

Fitbit sense
Neom goodies
New yoga mat
Weighted blanket

cariadlet · 11/11/2020 06:36

If there's nothing you need or want then don't ask for anything or ask for a charity donation on your behalf. DP and I stopped buying each other Christmas presents years ago because we realised that we were just doing it for the sake of it.

How old is your dc? A young dc could make you something, even if it's just a card or a bit of baking. An older dc could make you some tokens which you can cash in throughout the year eg making you a cup of tea or breakfast in bed, doing the washing up when it's not their turn etc

TheBugHouse · 11/11/2020 06:48

A moleskin diary is my favourite extra present too 😊
Anything for the garden? Flower pot, bulbs seeds or an ornament? Pot with bulbs in?

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 11/11/2020 06:54

I couldn't really think of anything - I have everything I need. Clothes would usually be the default option but I'm a bit porkier than normal currently and want to get back to my normal dress size before buying.

In the end I asked for a pendant from an Etsy shop. They engrave a mini version of your kids drawing onto a silver disc. My DS has got fine motor issues due to autism and has only really mastered holding a pen this year at almost 7 years old. He did his first proper drawing recently and I am SO proud. I want to have a permanent reminder of it.

thekoalassocks · 11/11/2020 06:55

I didn't think I wanted anything but have ended up with a massive list!

Speak for yourself

Single parent of two primary children.
We have such a wonderful and happy time.

Jroseforever · 11/11/2020 06:59

In terms of what I ask for... well, I will ask for my ex for a full body hoody blanket (we buy for each other from the children)

And from my brother... a lovely range of hair products that’s too much of an indulgence. Opalex

It’s a fancy brand but I treat myself to Neom candles. Exquisite and last.
LajesticVantrashell · 11/11/2020 07:02

I've 'hinted' at:

PJ bottoms from M&S
A Neom candle
The new Matt Haig book
Some Neals Yard bath stuff
3 for £10 Hotel Chocolat stuff

Non of that is wasteful and all stuff I will enjoy over a few indulgent wintery nights.

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/11/2020 07:14

We don’t get each other Christmas presents but my fantasy present currently would be a designer leather bag. A Mulberry maybe.

pincertoe · 11/11/2020 07:15

Books - i want philip schofield and the shagged married annoyed books
Make up always
Smellies
Face creams and washes
Booze - i get gin
Photo calendar
Games - we are getting some family games, game if life, exploding kittens etc
My dh has asked for some bread making things ie a baguette tray, a new proving basket and a scoring knife.

BettysSpaghetti · 11/11/2020 07:55

I’ve reread my op and sorry for all the typos. That’s what I get for posting in the early hours when awake with insomnia.

Some really great ideas, thank you.

I understand the idea of not getting each other gifts and we’ve not always bothered in some previous years but I’m really looking forward to having something to having something to open this time.

I don’t agree it’s an exercise in greed. There have been years where we couldn’t afford to buy each other gifts. Sometimes mil gives us money and we have put it towards clothes for dd. This year I want to have one thing to open. I don’t believe that is greedy at all.

pincertoe · 11/11/2020 08:48

Forgot I have a new back pack from work (thanks to mumsnet I found it and going to but my dd the same one but a different colour) and I want a new curling wand as broke mine this year.

FearlessSwiftie · 11/11/2020 09:19

No idea, actually. My first thought was that I ask for a normal year (and normal year after and after that!). And a little more free time to finally finish all the photoworks edits before the upcoming year

Cordillera · 11/11/2020 15:06

DM and DH asked me for a list and I came up with
Turtle Dove gloves seen on here, maybe socks too
Liberty Faber Poetry diary
Saffron
Pinking shears
Good walking socks
More of some lovely little wooden trees we got from local maker
Carmen Maria Machado books
Norman Lazarus ageing book
Clarins cleanser

DF always gets me a bottle of champagne and an art calendar.

RainingDogs · 11/11/2020 15:10

A Sega Mega Drive. Something I always wanted as a kid but never got.

Lowcarbbarb · 11/11/2020 22:21

My wish list is:

Hiking boots
Wool socks
New waterproof
Merino wool tank top
Neals Yard wild rose balm
Gift voucher for my local beauty salon (my last one expired over lockdown!! 🤦🏼‍♀️)
A bigger watering can
Sarah Raven gift voucher
Thornproof gardening gloves

What are your hobbies OP? I always find it easy to think of things I’d like (maybe I’m greedy 😳)

Drbrowns · 11/11/2020 22:30

Hoping for a Lidl version of a kitchen aid, because I keep burning out the motor on handheld whisks making buttercream, i’ve been through 3 in the last 3 years.

A photo calendar from the kids.

BeaLola · 11/11/2020 22:44

I always ask for some potted hyacinths - love those.

On my list so I have a surprise from DH, DS, DF & DB are:

Cashmere socks - navy or light grey
Chilli Chocolate Rum
Desk calendar
Latest Sophie Kinsella book
David Austin Rose
Winter flowering jasmine
Decent gardening clogs/mules
Brass ruler
Blue iridescent ink

I am sure I can think of some more ….

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/11/2020 00:36

There’s a novel I’d really like but it’s only out in hardback and I hate bloody hardbacks - too heavy to read in bed!
