Just what I said basically.

We are going to put one of our trees up today. We have an artificial one and always get a massive real one in the run up to Christmas.

My neighbour had already put her decs up, I'm late to the game.

Too early, or let's milk it for as long as possible?

I'm already watching Christmas films and eating mince pies, but not decorating yet. We still have Diwali to celebrate mid November and I'm going to light everything up I can for that. Then a little break and then get Christmassy.

Dollywood · 08/11/2020 11:37

Quite right enjoy!!!

maxineputyourredshoeson · 08/11/2020 11:40

Mine went up last weekend. I absolutely adore Christmas, DH is normally the grinch but even he was like fuck it, let’s do it.

I would put them up this early every year if I could. Loads of local houses have theirs up too.

LadyCatStark · 08/11/2020 11:40

Each to their own but we’re not going to get as we’ll be bored of them by the time it’s Christmas!

Might get some outdoor lights today though 🥰.

Dollywood · 08/11/2020 11:41

@SquirtleSquad I hope they have a magical time

Ginnymweasley · 08/11/2020 11:41

I won't be putting mine up till December but I don't see why it matters when other people put theres up. Channel 5 is showing xmas films already but dh banned me putting one one yesterday haha.
I have got my xmas decs down though to sort through them and we are sorting out toys this weekend to give away.

madcatladyforever · 08/11/2020 11:42

I never celebrate christmas and can't normally be bothered with it as I live alone but even I have bought an expensive twig tree covered in lights and intend to go the whole hog this year.
I can't see any of my relatives because I work in the NHS and it's too risky but the cat and I are going to have a good time, she likes to look at shiny things. Luckily she is too old to play with it.
It's arriving today and it's going up decorations and all.
We need as much cheer as we can get right now. I'm going to milk it.
I'm sending cards next weekend, really nice ones so people can enjoy them as long as possible.

madcatladyforever · 08/11/2020 11:42

And the christmas movies have begun already Grin

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/11/2020 11:43

I get the sentiment, but I’m usually sick of the sight the decorations by Boxing Day and can’t wait to take them all down and clean properly. I’d hate to be fed up them before Christmas even started.

Figmentofimagination · 08/11/2020 12:05

Both trees will be going up the last weekend in November. The house is getting a massive clean right now (got a house viewing on Monday), so it won't be as much to tackle in 2 weeks when I clean before I decorate.
Christmas music gets played when I'm on my own wfh. DH doesn't want to listen to it until December but he gets stuck listening to it at work so I can understand.

TeatimeAtCloppa · 08/11/2020 12:17

Love it OP. I have my lights up - will put the tree up last weekend in November. I am heading into town soon to pick up more lights. They make me feel happy.

CoffeeandKitKat · 08/11/2020 12:35

Each to their own but it's way too early for me.

We don't put our tree up until mid December, sometimes as late as about the 18th, and it all comes down on the 27th!

MelindatheWitch · 08/11/2020 12:40

Why?
It's almost too early for winter decorations, even! Far too early for Christmas decorations, in my opinion.

buckeejit · 08/11/2020 12:41

Ours went up yesterday. I like the lights in the evening & will enjoy it for 6 weeks

Sniv · 08/11/2020 12:43

I saw my first Christmas tree up in someone's front room in mid October, and I've seen a few more pop up since then. I did think it was a bit soon, but if some twinkly lights make you happy, then why not?

I mean, I can't talk - I still have my Halloween bunting up. Halloween Grin

Bluntness100 · 08/11/2020 12:44

Too early it doesn’t feel like Xmas yet, let’s face it, it will just look daft.

DC3Dakota · 08/11/2020 12:58

Do the people with trees up already, not understand how ridiculous they look?! It's November!!!! You'll be fed up of them by second week of December and everything will be a dusty mess.
Christmas decorations (& artificial trees) are not designed to be up long term. That's why we always end up with bristles, hooks, glitter and strands of tinsel/garland on the floor once we pack it away. Even with expensive decorations. They're intended for 2, possibly 3 weeks a year max.
Traditionally, real trees were used by everyone as we all know. If we put a real tree up right now then it would almost certainly be dead by Christmas Eve. That says it all in my personal opinion Confused

Ginnymweasley · 08/11/2020 13:03

Why do people care so much what others do? I mean does it really affect you at all? Calling others ridiculous etc for choosing to do something you don't do, in their own home.

DC3Dakota · 08/11/2020 13:07

I was referring to driving past a house in early November and seeing a tree lit up in their living room. That to me is ridiculous. It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. Besides, OP asked for opinions on it?????
Snowpatrolling · 08/11/2020 13:23

My tree went up yesterday, sod it!!!
Normally wouldn’t go up for a couple of weeks but it’s all cosy with the lights! :)

HoxtonBonnet · 08/11/2020 13:27

I won't put my tree up til December, but am considering putting some twinkly lights in my window. We need light and pretty things at this dark time!

TommyShelby · 08/11/2020 13:36

You go for it OP. It does no harm and if it makes you happy then why not I say! I’ve seen a few decorated houses near me and they did bring a smile to my face.

I’m a December 1st decorator myself however, I have started my prep work and getting on with the deep clean so everything is ready to go.

islockdownoveryet · 08/11/2020 13:55

If you want to put your tree up put your tree up .
But you do realise putting your tree doesn't make it Christmas.
I honestly don't understand you will still be waiting just as long but you will be staring at tree for 2 months and most probably will be dying to take it down the day after Christmas when in fact it's still Christmas until 12th night 5/6th January.
It'll be nice today but the excitement of putting it up will be gone .
I don't get why grown adults can't wait . Hmm

Well she did start a thread on it ....
Bowerbird5 · 08/11/2020 14:11

I might put mine up a little earlier because I usually wait forDD to come home ( Uni then carried on living in the south) so we can do it together. She loves Christmas. However she isn’t coming home this year as she is stuck 12,000 miles away. I might put it up around the 20th December.

I am doing other Christmassy things though. I have made one cake for us and have another couple to do for DS1,2? &3. I have mincemeat to make this week and I have bought most of the ingredients for Christmas chutney which I don’t usually make. Then I have some sewing and crafting to do. Cards, cushions and brooches etc to make for presents. A window to plan too. Bulbs to plant.

November is way to early in my opinion but Christmas preparations still give you that feeling.
I am missing choir because we usually start learning new music in September. We go out and raise money for choir and for other charities so I will miss that. When DH goes out I can put on the carols and sing along because we have a few YouTube appearances that some of the audience have put on from when we first formed to our almost professional sound.
