Im a Cm so we put the up on Dc st or the children, and have been known if we are not having DGD after Christmas Eve to take them down then Especially if we are going home to Scotland for new Year, the last thing want to do before starting work one 3 rd is sort them out

mustsleep · 16/10/2007 12:51

ds's birthday is on 30th nov so we do it the day after his party!! canlt wait how many weeks is that now?

am getting a ew tree this year does anyone know somewhere that sells them cheap?

fifisworld · 16/10/2007 13:19

I think i'll put mine up on the 1st Dec now, i was swaying towards the idea of doing it when i come out of hospital but that might not be such a good idea

Last year it was november

Cant remember the date - 21st or something!!

Baffy · 16/10/2007 13:23

Always 1st December

Can't wait any longer!

(And would definitely want them all up and ready if I was due to give birth in December)

lilibet · 16/10/2007 13:27

Dd's birthday is the 14th, so I always give her a few days with her cards up before I let Christmas descend

EmsMum · 16/10/2007 13:29

DDs already asking when we'll be putting the tree up. As Dec 1st is a sat, that'll be it.

I'm sick of it by 12th night, but its for her not me.

OP, def put up before the babe comes.

Iklboo · 16/10/2007 13:30

Before we had DS never before 21st Dec. Now, probably about 15th

Blu · 16/10/2007 13:35

If it goes up on Dec 1st, isn't it a bit wilty and dessicated by Christmas?

put it up middle of dec

take it down day after boxing day as i get fed up looking at it

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 13:47

1st december, always, but DS's birthday is 29th so we take it all down boxing day evening to give a few days break between christmas and his birthday. Also DD's bday is 24th november, so they both have only a few days either side of the whole xmas period between it and their birthday.

suedonim · 16/10/2007 14:12

Weekend before Xmas here and take them down around 12th Night. It makes me sad that Xmas seems to end on Boxing Day nowadays, when in fact it doesn't actually start until 25th Dec!

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 14:15

I think xmas begins and ends whenever your family can fit it in to be fair.
Sure there are specific dates that can be followed, but in this day and age it isnt possible all the time.

princessPUMPKINmel · 16/10/2007 14:16

1st weekend in DEc. Dh can't wait any longer.

fifisworld · 16/10/2007 14:17

I must admit, normally the day after boxing day im ready to take mine down, although i dont.

That's true LRNAF, though people have far more holidays over Christmas nowadays. When I began working we only had 25th Dec off. I remember dh getting caught for speeding one Boxing Day, though in the spirit of Xmas they let him off with a warning. And of course, the Aussies have Xmas in summer!!

But it is a bit sad when people like my ds & dil come over from the States and the decorations are down from the shops and the atmosphere has gone.

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 15:05

tbh sue, if my DS's birthday wasnt late decmeber then I would probably put them up later, and take them down later, but as he is only two, last year he wouldnt have realised xmas had ended and it was a new birthday!
But now it's become a kind of tradition already in our family, so it will probably stay that way.

I'm due to give birth in April as well, and if the babys birthday ever coincides with easter I'll be forced to change that holiday round too!

kimibobbingforapples · 16/10/2007 15:07

First weekend in December.

Pollyanna · 16/10/2007 15:20

I try to wait until the middle weekend in Dec and take it down before new year - ds's birthday is on the 2nd Jan so we remove all trace of Christmas by then.

suedonim · 16/10/2007 15:25

Oh yes, Christmas birthdays must be so hard. My dd's birthday is early March and I feel like even that's too soon after Christmas to be thinking about presents etc!!

CorrieDale · 16/10/2007 15:29

As the DCs get older, it'll get earlier but at the moment, decs a week or so before Christmas, tree 23rd October. Scrooge, moi?

Chirpyghoul · 16/10/2007 15:32

I put them up on the 9th as it is DH's birthday and it is part of his birthday tradition (he's 29, but still sulked last year when I didn't want to)

foofi · 16/10/2007 15:34

Weekend before Christmas, or weekend before if it's very close to Christmas.

kys · 16/10/2007 15:47

Ds bday is on the 15th so i do mine on the 16th. Mind you he's at such a lovely age this yr (3) i cant wait and want to put them up now.
