Does anyone else always have pork pie for breakfast on Christmas Day, or is my family just a bit odd? 🙂

I wouldn't really say that's completely out there. It's Christmas, anything goes!

movingonup20 · 05/11/2020 09:07

It's a Leicester thing I'm told. Personally no, they are for tea!

BiddyPop · 05/11/2020 09:07

Odd sorry.

Bacon sarnies, fresh OJ, lots of coffee here.

GoingBackTo505 · 05/11/2020 09:07

Definitely a Leicester thing!

helloxhristmas · 05/11/2020 09:08

we have it in the evening, not for breakfast. Pastry gives me terrible indigestion!

afaloren · 05/11/2020 09:09

We always have it for tea on Christmas Eve.

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2020 09:10

I’m not really a fan of pork pies, I mean they are ok but not right up there for me, I think we would all feel short changed if we sat down to some pork pie on crimbo morning

Bacon, croissants, cinnamon swirls, cheesy scrambled egg and Buck’s Fizz here,

But if you like a pork pie, all crack on. We all have different tastes.

Weedsnseeds1 · 05/11/2020 09:10

We used to as Leicester relatives always sent us a Melton Mowbray one at Christmas. Also a big slice from the raw ham, that was due to be cooked for boxing day, fried up like gammon steak, with fried eggs.

WaltzingBetty · 05/11/2020 09:11

Odd

Ginnymweasley · 05/11/2020 10:33

We have them for tea... although tbh I love pork pies and would happily eat them any time of the day. Haha.

InDreamland · 05/11/2020 10:39

Goodness no, way too early. However, on Christmas day I guess anything goes. We always have Melton Mowbray pork pies in the evening on Christmas day. Can't beat a Melton Mowbray pork pie.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 05/11/2020 10:48

I've never heard of it as a 'thing' but I can eat anything for breakfast - and I'd love pork pie.

user1493494961 · 05/11/2020 10:56

My Dad always had pork pie for breakfast on Christmas Day (he never ate breakfast normally) and he was Leicestershire born. I've been known to have trifle for breakfast on Boxing Day!

XiCi · 05/11/2020 11:03

I've never heard of it but I like the idea Grin
A big slab of gala pie would go down very well on Christmas morning I think. Line the stomach before the champagne starts flowing

princessbear80 · 05/11/2020 11:08

Love a pork pie, never had one for breakfast but am tempted! I love the ones from the old shop in Melton.

Fullofpissandvinegar · 05/11/2020 11:13

Has to be warm mincepies (homemade) washed down with champagne cocktails.

VestaTilley · 05/11/2020 15:41

Someone posted on here recently about a family tradition of a Victorian breakfast; I’m sure they said that included pork pie and Ox tongue, things like that.

Squirrelblanket · 05/11/2020 16:29

I quite often sneak a slice of pork pie from the fridge in the mornings when we have a big one in over Christmas. Grin

NoMoreFlowers · 05/11/2020 16:36

I hadn't realised it was a Leicester thing, but my parents are both from Leicester so that makes sense.

Yep. Every Christmas without fail, Boxing Day too if there's some leftover. With ham too. I'm from Nottingham, if it's relevant. You're making me hungry, OP!

IsThisNameTaken · 05/11/2020 16:46

Yep - definitely a South Notts / Leics thing.

I8toys · 05/11/2020 16:49

Oh god I love pork pie. Craving it now.....thanks!

chipshopElvis · 05/11/2020 16:58

No, but I'm going to now, that's genius!

AdaColeman · 05/11/2020 17:00

And by a lucky chance, I've got a Melton Mowbray pie sitting in the fridge at this very moment!

rslsys · 05/11/2020 17:51

No Pork Pie for breakfast, but a sausage roll with a coffee at 11ish is very recommended!
