Thank you.

Thank you for posting and giving me something to read every day.

I am so tired of how this year has been. I log in and this is the first board I come to. I am so enjoying reading bargain threads, what people cook and like to eat, shop etc. it may seem trivial to many but for me it’s really giving me something to look forward to.

Thank you.

I can’t wait for Halloween to be over and done with too. It gets in the way of my Xmas prep!

Chottie · 25/10/2020 17:27

I love the Christmas boards too. Lots of joy and happiness floating around. :)

DinosaurOfFire · 25/10/2020 22:38

EOTS= Elf on the shelf makes sense now, thanks everyone. I have avoided introducing one at home, the kids school have a "cheeky elf" in each classroom so they can enjoy it there instead!
@elQuintoConyo those acorns are lovely.

myhobbyisouting · 25/10/2020 22:47

Our neighbours have decided that in the spirit of giving the kids a nice Halloween that we're all trimming up the houses.

DP and the kids have gone crazy making decorations, splattering "blood" over blankets, carving pumpkins etc.

Roll on this time next week when I can put it all away and resume my poncing....it'll be the 1 month countdown to the most wonderful time of the year Smile

elQuintoConyo · 26/10/2020 08:46

I did a Christmas Quiz on here about 4 or 5 years ago.

Would anyone be up for another? If so, I have to start researching now!

There'll be one question per day, all Christmas-themed. Could be songs, literature, film, Life of Brian Grin traditions, etc.

myhobbyisouting · 26/10/2020 08:58

I'm up for it @elQuintoConyo

NoWordForFluffy · 26/10/2020 09:21

I'm up for it!

I would love that
TheSeedsOfADream · 26/10/2020 11:31

Very definitely yes!
The Amazon courier just bought me the boxed set of Midsomer Murders Christmas specials!

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 26/10/2020 12:08

Thank you for this thread @Fridgeandkitchen. This is exactly how I feel.

I joined MN last year to sneak peaks at the Christmas threads. I look at these every day atm. Quite frankly it's one of the only things that's got me through the last few months with a smile on my face.

Lots of lovely happy MNetters talking about my favourite time of year. Love them all, keep it up everyone Grin

Oh my goodness. We love the Christmas Midsomer Murders!! Look forward to it being on every year Grin. Didn't realise you could buy a box set just of the specials, may have to go and order them now..
WhySoSensitive · 26/10/2020 12:14

I’ve bought a wooden sleigh advent Calendar this year and I’m beyond excited to use it!
It’s making me happy every time I look at it 😂

pinkearedcow · 26/10/2020 13:46

Can I join you lot? I don't normally come on here, but everything is so grim right now, I need some escapism and frivolity.

Cancangirlie · 26/10/2020 13:55

This is my first visit but I'd love to join you too.
Has anyone else tried the Aldi Sloe gin mince pies? Blush We're on our second box already!

DustyLoafer · 26/10/2020 14:08

I love checking the Christmas threads.

Last week I hid AIBU topic, it's been such a revelation! You see so many other topics now because 'Active' used to be full of AIBU threads. It's so much more positive.

Boholady · 30/10/2020 09:20

@elQuintoConyo felt acorns: love them!

Canklesforankles · 30/10/2020 10:37

I love it too.

There is the occasional incursion from someone saying,

“Christmas Eve boxes/chocolate advent calendars/cauliflower cheese/coloured tree lights are vulgar/disgustingly consumerist/American.”

And I love the way they get sent to AIBU and told ”This is the CHRISTMAS board.” Grin

Dropping in to mention Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles (sorry if it's a familiar old chestnut on the Christmas boards!)

I'm going through one of my regular bouts of anxiety-related insomnia just now, and downloaded this on my kindle for reading in the small hours. It's so soothing and quietly joyful. I can wholeheartedly recommend it for a gentle hug of seasonal positivity, and some lovely ideas for food.

I love Nigel Slater, I am going to buy this, thanks for the recommendation!
AbsintheFriends · 30/10/2020 12:04

Oh, hope you enjoy it pink!

I've just bought DH a kindle for his November birthday and signed up for a trial of Kindle Unlimited, so I actually got it for free. I was going to treat myself anyway, for small hours sanity-saving. We have the book, which I love, but it's too big and cumbersome for bedtime reading!

CrazyBaubles · 30/10/2020 13:32

I love the Christmas boards - I post on the countdown thread all year but love seeing it get busy from September.
I've been on MN for quite a few years now and come to the Christmas board to get away from the stress and hysteria elsewhere. Definitely feels like a cosy cottage with fire burning and a get together with old friends to me Xmas Smile

Flushi · 30/10/2020 13:33

I love the Christmas boards too! They really cheer me up

Mokusspokus · 30/10/2020 15:28

I love then too but I'm so glad I resisted the sheer Robert frenzy one year. I still smile when I see one.. It was a huge unicorn 🦄 someone named Robert... Queue mumsnet lemmings all buying one then telling us how and where they stored him on delivery etc 😂😂

The other thing is booths. The booths love on here does make me feel nostalgic for a booths...

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/10/2020 23:26

This is my favourite board too It's lovely to read of others Ideas Makes me feel warm and cosy just reading them

I am just popping back to say thanks @AbsintheFriends for recommending the Nigel Slater book. It is fantastic, I love it so much! It really is such a comfort to read at the moment.
