Does your tree match your decor?

I know that sounds a bit poncey, I know people have bigger things to worry about right now... But I'd like to know if the baubles etc on your tree go with the room its in?

It's our second Christmas in this house, and we'd only just moved in last year, so didn't have any decor to speak of. Most of my decs, particularly my tree decs, are red/gold/silver, but my sitting room is predominantly jewel tones, deep pinks and purples with a little green and turquoise - the main feature of this is the full-length curtains the tree will be right in front of. Should I invest in some new baubles to avoid horrendous clashing? Or should I suck it up and embrace the mish-mash Christmas look?

Yes. My tree colour scheme matches the colours in my living room.

Not so much intentionally, just those are the colours I like

BoulangerieBabs · 22/10/2020 14:22

Nope, our tree is covered in lurid tat, nothing matches and that's the Christmas law. As much gaudy crap as possible Grin

bilbodog · 22/10/2020 14:23

I think trees should be covered with beautiful things of every colour and be eclectic! However i also have eclectic decor in the house - so it does match! 🤣🤣

Bearbehind · 22/10/2020 14:26

I think it depends if your tree has a ‘theme’

If it does and the colours of it don’t match the room it’s a bit odd

If it’s just a colourful tree with no set colours then it doesn’t matter

Love it! 🎄🎄🎄

Haha yes this ^ pre dc we had a posh colour coordinated tasteful, well lit and expensive looking tree with evenly spaced ornaments. Now it is colourful, gaudy, bright, mismatching, everything chucked at it and looks like a unicorn has thrown up all over it. Which one do I prefer? The second one as much more fun and it now has chocolates on too !

When I was a child our tree was totally like this, baubles of all colours, dreadful things I'd made in the infants (that my mum still has for 'sentimental reasons' Hmm). But like @Bearbehind mentioned, my tree does usually have a theme, of red, silver and gold. I think I'll have to get some pink, purple and blue baubles, and combine with the gold we already have and not tell DH because he doesn't understand my need to colour-match and won't notice anyway

No , I have 2 trees that have specific decorations / colours and the large tree that has all manner of different baubles etc on it from fluffy penguins to camper vans with skis on the roof .

We have no DC, so definitely fit more into the first camp Grin

No because I don't have a green, gold and red living room 😂 I say go with whatever style xmas tree you like as it's not up all year is it, there is so much variety out there for decorations now isn't there Smile

TheCrow · 22/10/2020 14:40

In a word, no 😂 my living room is dark red on one wall with dark wood and black leather sofas. My tree is white and the colour scheme is pastel pink and purple with tacky unicorns and doughnuts . I love my tree though so there's no way I'm changing it even if it does clash horribly 😂

Nutrigrainygoodness · 22/10/2020 14:42

Yeah. My living room has dusty pink (the colour, and actual dust as apparently I don't polish enough 😂) accessories - rug, cushions, photo frames, candle holders. And the tree matches that. Heres last years tree, its not a great pic, and I don't think we were fully finished.

What a shame that some think Christmas decs have to colour match Sad

Nutrigrainygoodness · 22/10/2020 14:47

*we have always had a pink or purple themed tree. So really our living room matches our tree. 😂😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/10/2020 14:47

Our tree decorations are a wonderful, multicoloured (or totally unstylish, depending on your POV!) mix of what we’ve collected over many years, inc. a few from when I was a child back in the Very Olden Days.

I can’t imagine any other sort of tree, not in this house anyway.

Always a real tree, too. 🎄

HowFastIsTooFast · 22/10/2020 14:53

Nope! Nothing on my Christmas tree even matches anything else on my Christmas tree. I buy a decoration on every holiday so they're all travel memories and I love unpacking them all every year and finding the ones I've forgotten about. I find matchy matchy trees a bit soulless but each to their own!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/10/2020 14:55

Our multicoloured one last year.

Does your tree match your decor?
StickTheKettleOnAlice · 22/10/2020 14:56

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER love it!

goose1964 · 22/10/2020 18:53

Sort of, our decorations are mainly silver and our tree is red and silver plus some odd other colours that have emotional connections.

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 19:02

Kind of. I live in an old listed building so the living room has lots of beams ans a big fire place, it’s all been sandblasted back to the pale oak, I use red and gold baubles on the tree, with red velvet bows, , it’s fairly traditional looking and kind of matches in if that makes sense, to the style of rhe room,

Iamaweirdone · 22/10/2020 19:16

Yes it does, my lounge is shades of blue and navy and my tree decorations are all blue, white and silver. And my wrapping paper has to match too. I love it and I’m not even sorry

Holothane · 22/10/2020 19:19

Wow that giant tree is gorgeous got a white one for the bedroom and a small snow capped one for the living room.

mam0918 · 22/10/2020 20:37

about 10 years ago when we moved I bought all new matching stuff (our old house came with a tree so we didnt have anything before)

I bought a lovely black tree and all silver, purple and teal decor... the tree broke and we have had a dozen cheepy ones since (how do trees break when they spend 90% of the year safely in a box?) and other stuffs creeped in, it no longer looks 'classy'

im thinking or getting new things again but im almost tempted to go 'tacky' theres something about a colourful hodge-podge that harks back to childhood whimsy and its better than the pervious failed attempts at 'pinterest chic'

IamChipmunk · 22/10/2020 20:45

Our lounge tree matches our decor. Its navy, silver, iridescent shimmery and a splash of gold. No one is allowed to decorate this one except me as I like it to look a certain way! (Its my show house tree!)
Family room tree has some navy in to tie in the room decor but also red and turquoise. The kids stuff they have made along with other random baubles also go on this one so it's quite multicoloured!
We also have a little upstairs tree thats more traditional, based on red, gold and silver.
I love my trees!

Hoppinggreen · 22/10/2020 20:47

Nope, looks like an elf vomited on it
BUT I know where I got almost every single ornament and there are happy memories attached to each one
